Graytail's 3rd: 4x4, HiBrix, Latest LED Tech, Lots Of Light!

It's another one of the unusual strains, with a character of its own. I'm going to be keeping it at hand for some time, I think. If it were a wine, it'd be an old port, or maybe a single-malt scotch - something you wouldn't have on a regular basis, but you want it in the cupboard for when you do.

Great summary. I know exactly what you mean, not your first choice but it's there when the mood is right. Your 7th or 8th string strain that waits quietly and ages to perfection.

Neiko, thanks for dropping that in. I believe there is a point of diminishing returns with THC content. But either way, I find most of us here aren't too worried about the numbers, we just love the plant and the community we have here. Still interesting to see the numbers.

Fun smoke-as-you-go review Graytail. My favorite variety, as it stands. Interesting how that short a cure can make such a dramatic difference. I should dig out a piece of that unimpressive African Buzz. It's been over a month now.

I tend to taste test mine about once a week, if I don't need to smoke it because of low stores. I do this mostly because I'm new to the game and I'm still learning the ropes. Do you do that or are you more inclined to jar it and leave it alone after an initial taste? I guess what I'm asking is do you have a minimal time you cure before you begin smoking it? From another direction, are there strains you harvest and know you're going to let them get, say a three month cure before you even touch them, knowing from experience the anticipated improvement? You certainly have the inventory to be that focused on the cure and the experience with some of the strains.

I tend to sample fresh produce immediately, still wet, and then daily as it dries for a few days. When it's jarred, I'll keep it at hand and continue to smoke it in rotation with other strains. After a couple weeks of that, I'll either keep it in the rotation or put the jar aside. Then it'll sit in the jar for a month or several months, before I remember to try another sample. :cheesygrinsmiley: I have a lot of different strains. :laughtwo:

Thanks for posting that Tikal report, Neiko! :thumb:

Interesting report on the Tikal. As you know I had the Haze pheno, of the 3 phenotypes listed, the haze pheno is of medium potency. I can say that it doesn't lack potency at all. It is also my favorite smoke out of everything I've grown or tried. Everyone that has had it absolutely loves it. I've been holding this back because there are a few people growing it and everyone gets hung up on THC content when deciding what to grow. I am now convinced THC content has very little to do with how buzzed you get or much you like a strain. So here are the labs on the Tikal Haze pheno. I doubt I will remove this strain from my garden for quite some time.

Thank you Neiko. If Graytail hadn't already sold me on Tikal you surely would have. And reps for pointing out so decisively that we're too hung up on THC and not paying close enough attention to terpene development and production. Good reasons to choose your growing medium and system with care and forethought.

Orange Hill Special Cut1 is dried and jarred and yielded 56 grams, 1.98 ounces over 119 days = 0.471 grams per day. :slide:

It's very skunky at this point with little orange to it and a meh high, but it sure is nice otherwise. :laughtwo: I'm not a big Skunk fan, so I'll probably be giving most of it away. Maybe it'll cure.

Pretty stuff Graytail. Set some away before you gift it all out and just maybe in six months you'll wish you'd kept it. One can hope, eh? By then you'll have much more. Remember those cold days in the past when the consideration was whether or not it would get you high?

This one didn't turn out to be what you'd hoped for did it? Again, so many other choices, but frustrating. We're so spoiled. :laughtwo:

Those were sweet numbers. :high-five:

I was actually grown on all forms of Dutch skunk available in the early to mid 90's, and there were some real hard hitters, although now I don't know what they'd do :Hookah:

Update time! :partyboy::theband:

Carnival x Utopia Haze is almost there - just a week away from harvest - right on schedule for a 10 week bloom. She should be finishing the latest calyx surge right about then, too. I'm very pleased with how this one turned out. :slide:

Utopia Haze x Buddha Haze is now the tallest in the room at 43 inches, and looking pretty darned good. She's been poppin' pistils for 6 weeks so far, with another 6 weeks to go. This is another one of those fluffy hazey sativas that almost always go to hell on me, but I still have hope. :laughtwo: Trichs are starting to spread ...

I think I'm doing a better job with this second Tikal. She's a lot smellier than her mother for one thing, with no real fading yet.

Gawd it's nice to be growing a well-bred hybrid again! I've been growing accidental crosses with good potential, but Carnival is in a better class. This plant confirms it for me. You never know if the pheno you got was just a fluke or if it's typical. All my Carnival experience is from one single fem seed and its clones until now. This seed produced a plant as great or greater than the first. Look at that frost! Genetics matter folks. She gets Cat next feeding.

DrGrinspoon has been surprisingly well-behaved with very little stretch - very much like a hybrid. I'm relieved. :cheesygrinsmiley: I'm getting tired of the wild sativas. I have a clone going, so I hope the high is good - nice pheno!

Channel+ on the other hand is surprisingly energetic, 3 inches taller than Y Griega at 27 inches and still growing - probably the Big Bud in it - fast out of the gate. It's also supposed to be a very quick plant with a 7-8 week bloom.

Y Griega is also looking entirely manageable. This was another one that worried me, with its Kali Mist genetics. :laughtwo: But it's lookin' good - very healthy.

Tikal2 will be small than its ancestors, so I'll have a chance with this third one to really dial it in.

In veg, we have Purple Haze, due for flip when Carn x UH gets harvested next week. it's a 16 week strain and clearly leggy so I want to get her into bloom as soon as I can. I topped her and I'll get 6 good tops by then.

CarnivalB is snug and happy in her big pot and put on 6 nice inches since then. She also got topped and is taking to it very well. Next week's pictures should be startling.

Very nice Graytail, is that your man cave????

LOL, well ... it's the couple cave ... :cheesygrinsmiley: ... In fact we've referred to it as our cave - incredibly cozy in the depths of winter. But the only "manly" thing about it is all the cigarette and marijuana smoke in the air most of the time. :laughtwo:
