Graytail's 3rd: 4x4, HiBrix, Latest LED Tech, Lots Of Light!

:slide:

All that available light Greytail. You must feel like you're in grower Heaven. :laughtwo:

Ya, I still haven't gotten my head completely wrapped around it. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I've been window shopping for months ... learning what I could about lumens and PAR and umols and footprints, etc ... started to get a good feel for what's available, what's good and bad about 'em ... had a plan for using my I-Gro in the center surrounded by smaller panels ...

And then my I-Gro goes to hell and I find out there were bonus prizes for POTY. :laughtwo::rofl: ... isn't life spectacularly, endlessly entertaining? Who knew, go figure, say what, etc. Huh?

So, now I'm almost at ideal. A few adjustments here and there, and I'm all set for light!

And how are you going to put 300watts? to use? :laughtwo: That's good for 6 sqft. I've thought all along that a small tent would be great for your place, say 2x3? :;): :cheesygrinsmiley:

We're planning to build this summer, something 2x4x7 I think. Dale want something wood that can pass for furniture. It will be interesting to see what develops. There's this beautiful 2x2x7 closet in his room at the nursing home and he's intrigued by the idea of buying two about that size and joining them together. Until then I only have my tiny 1x2x6 closet. I'm going to hang the LED overhead and surround the lower regions with CFLs. It should be a great learning experience. I'll be ready to move into regular plants in my next run. I don't think I've smoked anything sativa since college. That's wrong on so many levels.

I think I'd like to do a side-by-side of the same strain under the same lights but with one LOS and the other HB. First I'll have to be able to afford the HB kit. The more I see the more fascinated I become. I need to get beyond my fear of letting things dry out first. I know me - I'll feel like I'm torturing them. How will I overcome my nurturing nature Greytail? :laughtwo::green_heart:

Those buds were so frosted, congratulations Sweetsue! I am doing something wrong. I know genetics plays a big role but for some reason my plants when they get around week 6 it seems like they just stop producing crystals, it is the second time. Not that there are none, but I wish they were dripping :)
I am using the 11/13 schedule, but I changed on week 6.
Peace.

Thank you TH3K3YK33P3R. It was a sweet ride. Keep working on the frostiness. You'll figure it out. It's the mineralization of the soil that has ours going so crazy. HB and LOS are different, but very similar in this regard. HB takes it to another level though. Tempting stuff.

Your plants look great though! :bravo:

Have you read through BID's mineralized coco threads? My guess is it's your pot size - just not enough roots to get them into the second bloom phase.

Damn! I missed the beginning of this journal and I've been waiting for a new one from you, GT.
I'm sub'd and looking forward to your growing awesomeness once again!

I was just checking out Icemud's LED Overkill journal and he posted a link to Advanced LED's data sheets for all their models. It's really nice - y'all should take a look:

Datasheets

Among the goodies are pics of coverage spread and a umol grid chart for 18, 24, 36 and 48 inches from canopy. :cheesygrinsmiley: Here's the XML 350:

These umol numbers are surprising. :thedoubletake: For 336 watts, this is quite a potent light panel! My old panel drew 540 watts and only produced 600 umols at 24 inches. This one does 800 at 60% of the wattage. Impressive!

Right now, I have the last Destroyer cut centered under it at 18-20 inches. :laughtwo: I didn't realize she was getting such a good dose, but she's sucking it up jus' fine. :slide: Maybe two more weeks to go. I'll try to get pics tomorrow.

:Namaste:

Mornin Gray and thanks for all the cool info bud. looking forward to those Destroyer pics later.....will prolly give me something to strive for with my next run of Desfran....if i can ever get them to germinate this time.Have a great day bud. Have you looked into Budmaster 2 lites ? It's my main lite with some Dorm Grow's on either side. I know the BM has really good numbers as well. Since BID's demo on this light,i don't see anyone else using them ,maybe it's the cost of them ,dunno! Cheers bud.:passitleft:

Just chiming in. I used 11/13 period in my forced flowering grows, and plants flower 5 to 6 weeks max that way. It's a good way to cut costs for you indoor growers as well I figure.

Then, frostiness of yr buds depends on three things. First is genetics, indicas will always go ahead of sativas in this regard. Second is amount of UVB, the more there is the more THC trichs produce if exposed to it from the beginning. Third is amount of calcium and magnesium, especially last one is responsible for creating molecules turned by plant into trichs.

:Namaste:

Damn I started my last flowering periods at 11/13. I thought that it would finish them only a week or so early (or two to three weeks if the strain had a longer flowering period). I guess unless the breeder says the strain takes 16 weeks or more, I need to move them back to 12/12. Three weeks early probably measures up to a noticeable yield loss, huh?

Mornin Conradino, I liked your summary of resin amounts. I have a Q. for ya .So, i'm growing Mazar right now in Doc's. first run soil. They have been getting lots and lots of LED light as well as lots of UVB ,via two dorm grow 90w all red UFO's. They are about four weeks out right now.Following Doc's advise on Mag. issues and salt loving strains and all of that, these Mazar's being close to all Landrace ,have not been having any Mag. issues so far and budding and resin formation is ,looking good. My Q is, should ,or could i try to up the Mag . a little from here on out (4 weeks) with some Epsoms? Just wondering how they would respond. Thanks Conradino ,and have a great day brotha!:thanks:

I cannot advise for it if you're growing with Doc's kit, cause I don't know more about his gear than he does obviously, but if if you don't I'd start on 1/4 a Mg dose, and see what happens next. Brix reading would be definitely helpful here.

Gotcha ....brix is fairly high....high teens.Havn't taken actual readings as of yet but can tell by a few diff. things that it's very high.Pots are 26 gal. Rootbuilders. Bin flowering for about a month.,one to go..I'l start a little epsoms from here on out.Lots of experience with it ,so i know it can only help at this point. I just feel like more resin is in order....like ther'es a limiting factor in all this that can be upped a little, know what i mean? Thanks Conradino!:Namaste::passitleft:

I grew Afghani and Pakistani, so I know what you mean. These plants should be resinous indeed, but then not all that looks frosty is indeed very potent, that's my experience :) Maybe you just found a pheno that has limits here, I don't know.

I got some pics of DestroyerCut2 under just the Cree whites. I cooked 'er a bit as the temps warmed up - got surprised - and she's pretty yoogly :cheesygrinsmiley: so I'm not going to show a full plant pic.

But ahem, apparently she's growing some extra trichs from all the stress. And only about 5% amber. :cheesygrinsmiley: :slide:
