Grateful Bud's Backyard Outdoor Grow - SFV OG

Congrats on the new babies! I've never heard of the SFV strain so it will be interesting to watch.

I read a post recently where someone said if they don't sink after 24 hours they are no good. But that did not apply to me at all. All 4 Expert Seeds never sank. They sprouted tails while floating on the surface - never sank.

I think this is an old wives tale (not my tale though ;) ). My seeds never sink and I've had no issues because of that. It made me sad that you tossed the first seeds because they didn't sink.

Hiya HG!

From the Express Seeds site:
The SFV OG and Afghan #1 strains were crossed to create San Fernando Valley Fem. This award-winning hybrid is a force to be reckoned with in every way. Your nose and palate will be overwhelmed by the fruity and skunky aroma.

I have to say I am impressed with these Express Seeds. I don't have a light or a heating pad and they are still plugging right along (knock wood).

A friend gave me a container with about 50 mystery seeds. I'm not holding my breath but I'll keep at it.

Well shit.
I may have lost one of the OG.
*Note to self: do not put seedlings outside to catch some rays until they are more than a few days old.

Went to check on them and one was leaning over badly. When I picked it up to check it out - she fell over. My heart sank.

Not on my watch, I thought. I immediately applied CPR.
CLEAR!
KACHUNK! (went the electrode thingys on her chest)

Not really.
I just propped her up with some loose dirt - not touching any leaves.

We shall see . . .
Omg I know that shouldn’t make me lol, but fuck I lolled reading that!

I’m trying to make this journal appeal to a broad audience. The expert growers can come laugh at the chucklehead trying to grow stinky weed outdoors with no fancy equipment. Hopefully they throw wisdom nuggets at me once in a while.

The novice old hippy thinking about sticking a few plants in the backyard next to the tomatoes might gain some knowledge on what not to do. I’m good with that.

When I started growing 2 years ago I joined another grow site, but the vibe was not right. A lot of bickering and d*ck slappin’.

Much cooler people here.
I’ve read a couple of peen sword fights in here. Always reads as so awkward to me. I mean we’re not curing cancer here, we are growing weed. Spark a fucking blunt and grin bruv.

Share tips and learnings by all means, but have what you share come from a place of good. Some people are so desperate to be right it costs them their happiness. To that I say you do you Zorro coz I don’t have a sword to fight with lolllllinggg

Looks like a great start on the journal GB. I'd love to follow along and watch your grow.

So 6 days after placing the sprouts into dirt I'm still not seeing much growth. Perhaps I'm being impatient. I've been placing them outdoors in the sun for a few hours each day. At night I put them in the garage and place a drop light about 14 inches above them just to keep warm.

I think it is time to stop being such a luddite.

I went ahead and ordered a small Mars grow light.
I'll set it up in the garage to help the seedlings grow bigger while I wait another week or two for the weather to warm up some.

Also I think OG#2 is about to kick the bucket.

Tiny and virtually no change in the past few days. The others are definitely getting larger.

Hiya LED!
Happy to have you along for the ride!
I’m still figuring it out and I’ll take any advice I can get!
Thanks for having me! If you have any questions I’ll do my best to help out. Looking forward to the outdoor season. It’s getting closer! Can’t wait to see what we both can do this year. I have high hopes

Don’t worry for them just yet. They are newly sprouted and have a lot of soil to explore and get a good footing with roots. The visual growing above dirt will start soon. Do you know your temps at night in your garage? Until recently I had to put a small heater to keep them warm enough. My temps would plummet to between 38-45 degrees which is not bueno even for a mature plant but Especially for youngins.

The past few days lows have been around 60˚F. I bought a small Mars grow light to help out. No tent just open in the garage. Another few weeks and they can tolerate the low temps outside. I think.

Careful, man- that's the first step to becoming an indoor grower... :)
I'm going to be starting a couple outdoors real soon, so I'll check in here from time to time, if that's cool, GB?

Hiya Carcass!
Absolutely cool with me!
I’ll take any advice I can get.

And yeah my mind is already working out how I can set up a tent somewhere.

So I got the Mars T1000 grow light. The seedlings really like this light. Looking much better after just a few hours with it. These 3 were placed in soil in plastic cups on March 14th, and sprouted above ground on the 15th. So 9 days in the cups. Should be bigger by now?

I started 2 more Express seeds today. Should germinate by tomorrow. Wondering if I should just drop them into soil after they germinate, or should I place in between damp paper towel for a day or so after they sprout tails? The first group went from a glass of water to damp paper towel for a day, then into soil.

I also have 4 more mystery seeds in damp paper towels, and 2 have sprouted. Hoping the tails get longer. Barely visible right now.

M1 germinated a few days ago; M2 germinated yesterday. I was going too throw all 4 away but found a second one had a little white tail (were sitting in glass of water) so I placed all 4 in between damp paper towels. If the tails get longer I'll throw into a cup of soil.
