Grandpa Likes To Squeeze Stuff: Solventless Extracts, Rosin, Pressed Here!

I just want to thank everyone on this thread for all the info - I am not even close to having read it all but what an education!!!
Just one quick question....
What ceramic heater should I use in my blocks??

When I originally made mine with 4 x 4 aluminum plates I used these:

Dimart 8mm x 40mm Heating Element Single End Cartridge Heater AC 110V 100W

There’s better on the market now, but these did the trick.

Ok guys. As a new squishier with no experience, I have what may be a dumb question. Do you need to dry and cure before you can squish or can you just trim up a fresh bud and squish it for "live" rosin. Is live rosin better? Worse? I would like some opinions from others if possible. Thanks.

I’m not a fan of fresh off the plant squish. Too much moisture and green IMO. I like it dried—about 5 days around here—before I start smashing.

I'm personally curing them as if I were going to smoke it to 62*, then toss a rh packet in the jar. But I'm not positive it is necessary. I may just be use to the ritual of smelling my jars and slow curing. I believe we have discovered that most sweet spots for squishing bud are found in the 60-70ish rh range. I just tried squeezing a set of pucks in the 80s and the return dropped hard. I'd guess by half... To dry and old and it drops the return, to wet and fresh and it drops the return. But like everything about cannabis, results very on every aspect because no two are created equal. That's not even tossing in the equipment aspect.
Based on my experience, I'd go for 65-68* for squishing and lower than 65* for smoking.
:goodluck:

Agreed. Slow cure and hold. I’ve been using a 72% bovida in one of my containers and it seemed to help with older bud. Moisture content is key.

When I order my boveda packs Ill get 62 and 69 to see what works better. Thanks guys.
On another note (to Bobby) I didnt see in the Seedsman thread if you chopped your Cinderberry girls yet. Did you? If so, how did they squish?
Freakin awesome!
Right here …. :high-five:

Every atomizer I've used for vaping has had at least part of the coil exposed. Most of the outside of the coils has been covered in cotton. Some coils have a ceramic shell, wrapped in cotton. Either way the interior of the coil was exposed.

For arguments sake, let's say you can find a coil for rosin or wax that's encased in ceramic or quartz. That ceramic or quartz would need to be heated to an appropriate temperature first, before you could take a drag. Once you release the power the ceramic or quartz would need much more time than a coil to drop below the temperature needed for vaping. All the while you get to watch your hard work go up in smoke.

If you are worried about it check the vaping forums. We've had many a discussion on this. I decided on nickle, temperature controlled coils, over kanthal, or titanium.

So, what is out there without an exposed coil that doesnt require firing up a torch?

I'm a newb at all this and feel exactly the same K. I'm probably going to start with a cheap enail kit and go from there. Pictured is one kit for $160 from puffingbird. You can set the temp you want, no chance of combustion messin with my lungs, cooled through water to help smooth out the harsh. You can get attachments to vape herb with the enail as well.

I like that. I have an enail, but don’t use it. I don’t want to leave it on all the time and takes too long to fire up for one hit. Maybe the new ones are better. I did like it when I had a little party though. Very convenient.

I use a vaporizer pen, my banger, and my nectar collector. Whatever is ready to use or what I feel like hitting. My favorite is the banger. It’s like hitting a bong and I’m an old school bong guy. It does require a torch, but I’m okay with that.

I saw you really talking up your nectar collector a while back GT, thats why I inquired about it. TBH, Im a bong guy too. I picked up a nice banger for my bong a while back. That said, the nectar collector does look to be really convenient and easy to use. possibly a bit more discreet than that large bong I have too. I cant wait till my DDA is dry enough to squish...

I can’t wait for my DDA either. It tastes so good. Really good!

Im old school also. I made a bong out of a Grand Marnier bottle. Nothing but glass all the way. Added a bent glass mouthpiece, and of course a diffuser stem & glass bowl. I also run my vape thru it by removing the bowl & connecting with a short med grade silicone hose attached to a glass ,,,lets call it a dome on the vape. Also run my Solo thru it. lol. Im not crazy about one trick ponies. Unless it's simply the best there is. Maybe Ill remember how to post a pic.

Time to cut some Parchment for Rosin squishin soon... Hehe....

Damnit! I went there looking and ended up ordering a new rig!

What size/gram boveda packs do you guys use? In relation to what size storage containers you use of course. I had no idea there was such a huge selection of Boveda packs.

I’ve been using 62% bovidas for my weed for a long time. I have some 72% but that’s an experiment.
