I was noteing on deegee's thread that the fullest buds seemed to be the farthest from the hps. but on the outside of the hps are cfls.

It is interesting that you say that about your buds and the distance to the hps. I was thinking the same thing today. I was looking at the buds on my plants and noticed very little difference in size as to relation to the distance from the light. I wonder if pulling the light up further away from the plants would actually be good.
All the research I have done and experienced prove different though. I like to keep my lights as close and powerful as possible in relation to the plants. Unless I hear compelling info to do different.

I haven't moved my light any more but to keep from burning them! so all I can say is the buds on the boarder of my grow seem to be fuller. I just wonder if there is something about this or if its just my imagienation..running away with me?

I've had 2L lollipops and buds that were against the tent not directly under the light and they were clearly some of the largest buds that I had.. To me at least, what does that have to say about defoliating? If a leaf is covering a bud site, who gives a fuck!?!? For one we have HIDs for a reason, PENETRATION! Even if it couldn't penetrate one leaf (which it can) like I said I've had bigger buds that were more or less in the dark compared to the main portion of the plant. Now I'm not saying stuff down low like where you need to lollipop will grow bigger buds, I'm saying right up where the main colas are but not directly underneath the light I've seen this.
The plants directly under my light seem to be the opposite of what you're seeing. They're fuller, grow faster, and the bud production is faster than the rest. You'll see what I mean on my next update tomorrow. The only thing I can think of is that you may have a hot spot diffuser.

1) What hoods are you all using
2) Ballasts?
3)Bulbs?
