Golden Tiger - In Hydro By Gwhunran 2023

Golden Tiger
Day 65 flower

The grow room is running normally.

The plants are looking the same. I can't tell if the nute damage is changing or not. The plants Seem to still be growing okay. :hmmmm:
Scheduled reservoir change tomorrow. I'm thinking about running straight PHed water for a few days and see what happens? :hmmmm: At the end of a grow, I run nutrient free H2O and it takes a long time to have any visible effect. After a few days, I'll reload the reservoir with about 50% Mid Flower General Hydroponics 3 part liquid nutes concentration and see what happens. :hmmmm: Any of you hydro old timers got an opinion as to how long it takes for foliage recovery after nute burn?:hmmmm::bong:

The grow area is running normally.

Scheduled reservoir change today. Decided to reduce the nutrient load again instead of going straight water.
PHed to 5.8-6.2.

The plants are continuing to grow and I believe they are still growing taller, just not as fast. The buds are building.

The plants seem to be okay with the new reservoir so far. They are growing and the flowers are building.

They are drinking a good amount.

It doesn't appear that the issue with the plant is any worse?.
How's the new growth?.
I think it's coming in cleanly, but will need a little more time to be sure. I just cut way back on all three liquid nutes but kept the same recommended ratio of Grow, Micro, and Bloom. Nothing else was added but PH down.

As long as it stays alive, I think I will get a harvest. I just hope the flowers come out sticky and tasting good.

If you get a chance and it's not too much trouble please send me a link to the simplest/easiest instructions to make COB.
It looks as if with my outside plants and hydro grows, I will have a considerable excess of cannabis this year and need to make something with some of it that doesn't require the refrigerator or freezer and doesn't take up a lot of space. I'm at that time of year when I've a lot of this year's 1st harvest and will have an even bigger harvest on the 2nd crop if things go as they are now, and I've still got some of last year's harvest left that needs to go.

On making the COB, I am especially interested in the variations on making it, so I can figure out how I want to do it. I do have a good stainless steel dehydrator, I may have to clean it up more to make sure my COB doesn't taste like venison.

On COB, I've got several long colas of the outside 5th Fuel D.OG and was wondering if a COB could be made keeping the long bud on the stem sorta like a Thai Stick?

The grow area is running normally.

The plants seem to be doing okay with latest reservoir. It will take a little longer, seeing what the new growth looks like, to be sure. They are still growing and the flowers are getting larger. One thing that may not be so obvious from the photos, is that the flowers are growing all the way up the stalk and because of the thin leaves, lots of light is getting deeply into grow. I expect there will be lots of bud with so many stalks carrying bud about their whole length.:hmmmm::cheesygrinsmiley::bong:

The grow area is running normally.

The new reservoir on Monday seems to be agreeing with the plants. I am not noticing any further leaf damage and the plants are still growing and flowering.
I found the PH dropping more than usual this morning and PH up was added to bring it closer to ideal. It was still within acceptable range but lower than I like it.

I think your right Capn :) , there will be lots of decent bud under the screen on this grow. The Colombian Gold on the other side will probably be most productive above the 2nd screen and there probably won't be very much too far below it. Light just won't penetrate very far with the wider leaves.:hmmmm:

I think my COB making will have to wait on the Golden Tiger harvest. I was thinking about a trial run with the Outside 5th Fuel D.OG as it's almost finished drying and will be ready to cure. But I don't think I should do some of the required physical activity yet.:hmmmm: I can't even make rosin yet and was going to make more rosin before the Acapulco Gold and Fuel D.OG were cured. Now they are both cured.

I'm thinking of using my cylinder rosin mold to make my COB with. Then wrap and tie it.

I think that would work great for making Cobs. Have you thought about how you will start the fermentation? CL🍀. :thumb: :cheer:

Heck Capn, I changed my mind awful quick :hmmmm:  . I was looking at the harvested 5th Fuel D.OG that was dry enough to cure and I already have a good amount of Fuel D.OG jarred, and the buds are a lot denser.:hmmmm: The outside plant had big fluffy buds, but sticky with resin.:hmmmm:
I updated the Fuel D.OG thread with the COB making.:) I used parchment paper and my pre-press rosin making molds to create the shape. Using a dehydrator to sweat them now, been in there since 2100 EST last night:), a bit of overkill, I could put 150 COBs in it, but I only made six averaging about 21g each.:cheesygrinsmiley::bong:

The plants are looking better for sure. :) The new growth is showing it.:) A lot of the old growth looks like it will continue to have the damaged look. The flowers are growing for sure and things are fattening up. :cheesygrinsmiley: The vertical growth has really slowed down :hmmmm:and the plants are drinking more.:):bong:

Looking 👀 a lot healthier now but I was wondering if they started dropping any fans yet? Seems the longer mine flowered the more fans I was losing. It makes trimming a lot easier too. CL🍀. :thumb: :cheesygrinsmiley:

Not really dropping fans that I'm noticing. I don't even have that much dead stuff hanging off the bottom of the 1st screen.:hmmmm::oops:
I guess there's enough light getting down deep.to keep them going.:hmmmm::)

I hope so.:) Or the flowers just now decided to take off.:hmmmm::cheesygrinsmiley::cheer:

I posted up about making COB on my Fuel D.OG thread. Link in signature.
Do you leave the wrapper on, in my case, parchment paper, on throughout? Or is it removed, or removed and replaced, at any point in the process?:)

I use baking paper but take it off once I've put the cob in the bag. The paper, for me, is only there to keep the cob tightly held together when it's being pushed out of the tube that I use to form them in. I line my tube with paper and find its easier to push the tightly compacted cob out. Once it's in the bag and vacuumed, it will hold itself together without the paper. Also, once the paper is removed, you can see the colour change as it occurs. Some do leave the paper on throughout the entire process, but their not able to observe the change in colour. It really makes no difference to the process.
The people who use corn husks and banana barks tend to leave them on throughout and say that the husks/bark impact a certain something to the flavour. I've never used either, so can't comment.

If you decide to leave the paper on throughout, then you can just put a small piece of bud alongside the wrapped cob in the bag and watch it change colour; that'll give you a good indication as to what is happening to the occluded cob. Hope that makes sense.

It's early morning here in Southern Spain and I've just had my fist piece of cob. 100mg of Golden Tiger + 200mg of Original Haze. Later in the day I'll top it up again with a similar amount.

I was thinking of doing the cure by putting them in a jar with the paper on after ferment, when dry to the touch. And just open the jar for sniff test and leave the jar open as necessary if too moist. Continuing this for about a month as if I'm curing bud in a jar. After a month, if they are good to the nose, open one up and if it looks good, open a few up and let them dry out. Leaving some of the sticks to cure for another month. :)

You could do as you suggest, but I think that you'd be better to leave them in the sealed the vacuum bag for the cure.
Although the cobs feel touch dry, once resealed and vacuumed, the moisture will again even out.
After the ferment and they have been opened up and allowed to dry, we usually reseal the bag and allow the cure to take place without any oxygen, but now at a reduced temperature.
Every few weeks we open up the bag, sniff it and just let it dry a fraction more, before resealing and continuing. Once we get a very special smell and colour, we dry out for much longer before resealing and aging. At this stage you can put it in a jar. But longer aging is better. 6 months is about the time to try testing; (I can't wait 😂).

The slower you can make the process the better the colours and smells. The high it's also different on the slower cured cobs.

By putting cobs straight into a jar after the ferment, although they may be touch dry you, may find that mould develops on the surface.
Thankfully that can be scrapped off and the cob dried out.

🙂
