GiGaBaNE's 4th - HydroGanics 600w HiD + Flouro

Piccies please! I like piccies :) :cheer:

update after some sleep btw peeps =)

i have 15 viable seedlings atm. they sat under my hps for the night while i make my shoddy cheap ass blue light rig for them.

been keeping my picture taking up so plenty of shots to look at =)

ugh good morning peeps.
only had a few hours sleep so im feeling pretty rough.
not going to try and pretty up this update, ill just add the pics.

the soft clay was an impulse purchase, i wsa hoping it was a bit like hydroton in micro form. but its all sticky and has the boyancy of little polystyrene balls =(

i love the pic of the bigbud2 post defoliation. it could be nonsense but i like to think that the amount it 'bled' is a testament to the success of the water roots capilary action.

my hps light is on temporarily while i set up a blue light array as the tubs are now laid out in such a way my t8 is useless.

ok some pics.

Looking good GiGa. Off to a great start already.!

yeah what TG said, and what someone else will say:)

Awwwwwwhhhh .... I do love my Grumblebum Giga. Adorably grumpy

Finally, Pictures... :blalol:

Wow Gig, you can really tell how hard you have been working on getting everything set up, I'm impressed! :bravo: You've gone from utter chaos to organised chaos and it's definitely looking like one mean green growing machine. Ooh, I like that

How much do you find you have to fiddle with your pH, measurements etc?

I hear what you are saying about SOG and my eyes light up, but my problem is I know I just won't get on with how damned labour intensive hydro can be, and I can't afford to lose any plants. I know your mad creations have all kinds of things in them so I don't even know if they fit under the umbrella of hydro lol.

And the reason I am asking about this in so much detail is because seeing your set up today and your SOG comments are making me seriously consider my grow space. I just don't know whether or not it would suit me ...

I wish you were closer here Giga, I would love to be able to pop over for a brew and a joint and you can show me the Giga Cavern of Cool ;)

i suspect sweetie that your gonna know me for life now...wont be long and ill have a 'fat wedge'. ill just come and set up an operation near you and can pop in and vice versa =)

i am doing ZERO PHing and ppm and all that crap.

organic soil that auto waters from the bottom when the roots are established and just little sprays of tap water with a single drop of dishsoap in to increase its wetness.

the water at the bottom is never meant to have any nutes in it, so PH is pretty much irrelevant.

one upgrade im going to use when i can is tubs within tubs. a full size tub to contain all the water, then smaller tubs with holes in that contain my plant pots, so i can pull my garden out in sections to clean the water.

weight IS a serious consideration with the way i am growing. the stones and water add up to back ache, lol.

this is only MK 1 tho, im already working on ideas so that i never need to lift my pots till harvest...stay tooned =D

ok off for a nap now, lol bbl =D

just curious as to why u say ph is irrelevant? I disagree there. Ur roots in the soil will uptake nutes, therefore ph is absolutely important. The plant cant absorb diff nutes if its not in the right range. U may get a grow and flower but definately not what u could have. I think u are overlooking something very important here.

I agree. I think plants drink more water when the pH is in the proper range.

ahh ill rephrase, the soil section needs to be treat like any soil grow.
its the water that doesnt need ppm and PH monitoring.

for this grow ill not be doing anything to the soil tho to test its compatibility with my plants.

but i will PH some water to neutral and then mix in a handful of soil and PH that after its had a rest and see what it comes out as.

i suppose while im at it ill test a handfull with my tap water which is consistently 7.2 to 7.4

but unless my plants tell me its an emergency...im not altering anything.

its not even about the plants drinking more water. the plants are taking nutrient from the soil through the ROOTS, any nutrient absorbed by roots need to be in particular ph ranges. it can even be argued that u should ph for foliar feed although for diff reasons for ph range in roots. many soil growers and novice growers neglict ph, to there detriment. U will never get the best quality and yield by neglecting ph and i think u may have issues by doing so.

there is an idea buzzing around the edges of my mind that a fixed volume of soil out in the wild in the right conditions will change because of the plants themselves, this is something that takes many generations of wild growth and decay and rain..but there is something to it or the world would already be barren, 20 million years or whatever of plants extracting minerals and nutrients from the soil...either there is a self equilibruim in place we can find and tap into....or there is a huge natural diaster looming we havnt thought of and thats our plant life on earth running out of food naturally...giving the biological earth a half life of its own outside of any other disasters, man made or other

just a wild stoners theory tho, it will take years to figure this out

i guess time will tell.. i have olde clones and new seedlings in these pots running right now with no signes of burn or deficiency.
im not going to second guess myself till i see a problem happening. as ive mentioned before, my method is counter intuitive.

ofcourse plants adapt to there environment but it takes generations. Also in the wild cannabis plants for the most part grow in fertile acidic soil, where they have adapted to grow over many years. But we are talking growing regular strains indoor for a single grow in this soil. i think u'll run into probs but maybe u can prove me wrong.

i do understand what your saying and for the most part your probably right, but i have to test my theories in the face of conventional logic.

and its not exactly a reg strain for a single gro...unless i see a major issue develop i intend to breed many many generations in the same soile type and water conditions their parents grew in...even to the point later on of reclaiming the soil and re enriching it with everything but the buds i collect and eventually ill be symbiotic growing with comfrey and it will all be a single 'pot'. my end design so far in theory is based on a platform that holds exactly 1 metric ton of this organic soil, my mobile version will be on wheels and shaped to fit exactly in a transport container and can be 'connected' to the next plaform for a continual path.
