GG7's Indoor/Outdoor Grows!

Those seeds look excellent! Goldengoose7! I cant help but think you might regret ending GDP genetics.
Can you still get clones from Ken or was that just a once in a lifetime deal? Remind this burnout I cant remember.

Thanks Man! I was pleased to see that the seeds appear to be fully mature and large. Those plants were in flower for 10 weeks, so that gives me an idea of how long to let the GDP plant go before I chop it. Based on the Harlequin minis, I am now thinking that 8 weeks is probably too early to chop the fertilized GDP. I have to keep reminding myself that I am shooting for seed maturity rather than optimal trichome condition! ;)

In terms of the GDP... I could probably get my hands on some genuine GDP clones down the road, but since I got my originals, Ken is now marketing GDP seeds. I know that these plants would not be identical to the original clone only version, but it would probably be close enough. Closer than any of the faux GDP seeds and clones that are out there these days.

Thing is... With last year's and this year's harvests, I am going to be swimming in GDP bud, so at the rate I use it, I already have enough to last me for at least two years.

I'm hoping that the GDP/PR cross will produce plants that are similar to the original GDP females, and if that turns out to be the case, then I will have enough seed stock to last a lifetime!

In addition to the GDP clones, I also have Purple Diesel seeds that I got from Medicinal Organics and my own Purple Rhino seeds, so I do have some other purple strains available to me for future grows. :)

Too bad these guys don't eat spider mites! ;)

Harlequin/Purple Rhino Seed Project Final
Harvesting the Seeds!

The two mini Harlequins have been drying in my drying closet for the last several days. I noticed that seeds were starting to fall out of the hanging buds, so I decided to go ahead and extract the seeds from the buds.
<snip>
I didn't count them, but the yield from these two tiny plants was impressive! I can only imagine how many seeds I am going to get from the GDP female that was fertilized by the larger PR male. It will be interesting to see what kind of plants grow out of these crosses. :)
Nice seeds from "the minis". Looks like you'll have some seeds to cross to try and stabilize the strain, if you wanted to.
About the GPD Female in the room with the PR...I think I said about 175-200 seeds, and that's what I'm sticking with. :cheesygrinsmiley: Good luck!:circle-of-love:

Excellent looking bud you got, too from the Harlequin GDB! You trim yours a little more leafy than I do, but I use all my sugar leaf trim for Dry Ice Hash.

I love the pic of the mantis... I see these all over my apartment complex. Makes me smile every time I see a big female, abdomen swollen with eggs.

I think we might even see more seeds than your estimate based on how many I got out of those two tiny Harlequin plants. We shall see. ;)

As for the bud trimming... I normally trim a little closer than I did with that Harlequin test bud, but since this was an impromptu situation, I mainly wanted to get it hung and dried ASAP. I am expecting the buds to tighten up a bit more as they get more mature. These appear very similar to my BC buds and even have a similar smell to Blue Cheese. The BC flowers really tighten up when they hit about week 8 or so, which is still a ways out from where we are right now. I didn't bother trimming up the fertilized Harlequins at all since I was just going to crush them up to get the seeds out anyway. I just snipped the fan leaves off and hung them up. ;)

Glad you liked the Mantis photo! I just happened to be out there with the camera when I spotted it and managed to snap those two photos before it flew off and up onto one of our super tall cherry tomato vines. We've been seeing a lot of those guys around here this summer. We even had one in the house today that I failed to catch to let it outside. It is still lurking in our living room somewhere.

Hopefully I can find him before one of our cats does!

Cool pic of the mantis - hope you are well! I'm really wanting to grow either Harlequin or Cannatonic one of these days soon...

Hey XL!

Doing good. Thanks for checking in! :)

I am currently down in So Cal visiting relatives, so I have not had a chance to post as much the last few days. I get back home on Tuesday and will most likely take some new photos of the crops and post them here. My plants are in good hands... Thanks to the assistance of a like minded neighbor who is watering them for me every day while I am away.

Have not had a chance to sample my Harlequin test bud yet. I forgot to bring it with me on this trip, so I will have to wait till I get back before I can try it out. I will post my impressions here soon. However... This bud came off the plant way early, so It likely will not provide a true reference of the final product. We will have to wait until the actual harvest comes in and it gets a chance to cure for at least a couple of months. Hopefully by Christmas time, I will be able to provide a serious strain review.

I have heard lots of good things about this strain. I hope that it delivers up to my expectations. I am really after a strain I can use for anti-inflammatory and pain reduction purposes, but without the usual THC effects of most strains. I often need this kind of relief in the morning right when I get up, and I'm not really in the mood to feel high that early in the day.

Keeping my fingers crossed that this particular strain of Harlequin does the trick and can give me a MMJ based option that doesn't interfere with my ability to get through my morning chores and other activities... Including driving to town for supplies etc.

Talk to ya soon, and thanks again for checking in!

Hope all is going well with you also!

Cheers. ;)

Yeah, I've been seeing a lot of mantids down here as well. At sea level, I thought it'd been too hot for them, but they're frikkin' everywhere! Those and spiders. But minimal flies, so there's a plus. I hope you do break my estimate! I can't really tell how tall she is, but she looks like about 3 feet?

Hey, about the trim job, I wasn't trying to knock ya or anything. I read it after a few days and thought it might be taken as me being rude, and that wasn't my intention. Hopefully you know me well enough to know that it wasn't meant that way, but I just had to say so. Don't need another falling out, here on 420Mag!

Hey, BTW, I can't find anything about the stability of Harlequin GDB... what are your chances of getting the High CBD?

i had to go back a page to see the buds and seeds, im so glad i did, looks like the breeding project went to perfection and the seeds are nice and ready,

well done GG7, reps coming your way friend,
could i just ask how long would you say from polenation it took to having ready seeds, i got a plant in seed production and i had to harvest all the bud that was not seed set and i had to leave the 3 big buds that are in seed production mode, just wasnt to sure on the time scale, i did pop open a small seed pod and it had a small soft white seed in their, i did this to check their are seeds, as their was i left the 3 branches on that is making seeds, but not sure how long i need to leave it, some of the seed pods look like their bursting open.

i checked a small seed pod and it had a white seed which isnt ready, but this was lower down the bud, the pods at the top look like their splitting at the sides, as i can see a white seem thats opening up on a few of the pods on each bud, is it best to leave the plant growing till the seeds are falling out or is their a way to tell when their ready apart from cutting a pod open, i dont want to waste seeds as im not sure how many seeds ill have

No problem Jandre! I wasn't offended. :). I only responded to those specific comments because I pride myself on well manicured buds, but in this case, I didn't feel the need since that branch got broken off by accident, and those plants still had several weeks to go before harvest. After testing it I might very likely toss it out unless it blows me away or something. Basically, I just snipped the fan leaves off and hung it up. It actually tightened up nicely when it dried and what you see if all the plant's doing, not my scissors. ;)

Regarding the stability...

To be honest, I have no idea about the stability of the MON Harlequin. I can only go by the quality of their Blue Cheese strain which has been excellent. They claim a much higher than average CBD percentage on the Harlequin seed package, so for now, I am going to assume that I will be pleased with the effects.

We shall see in another month or so.

Stay tuned! :)

Hey DP! Thanks for the reps! Much appreciated! :thumb:

Yeah... My most recent photo updates kind of got buried at the bottom of a previous page. I wish there was a way to force photo updates like that up to the top of the page, so they don't get overlooked if the thread gets really active in a short period of time.

As for the seed projects...

I let the baby Harlequins go for over 10 weeks before I chopped them. I wanted to make sure that all the seeds had had a chance to fully mature before I chopped the plants and hung them up to dry. They looked really good, but I did find a handful of green seeds on the plant, so based on that, I would say at least 10 weeks before chopping, and possibly more. Since I don't recommend trying to consume those buds, there is no need to worry about trichomes and such.

Just focus on how the seeds look. I could feel hard pointy ends sticking out of the Colas when I pressed them with my thumb, so I felt confident at the time that they were ready for drying.

Hope that helps, and glad that you went back and checked out those seed photos! Like I said... I always hate it when I post a big photo update and it ends up at the very bottom of a page, and then a new page starts right afterwards.

Cheers.

Hey Goose, Whats your take on seed preservation. I dont think you have experience with seeds yet have you?:thumb:

Hehe, staying tuned is a necessity for a thread like this. I must admit, I'm enraptured by the other-worldly purple you produce, and now, you're hitting the other side of where my own research was leading me with the High CBD. Until I can afford to get some seeds, I'll just have to grow vicariously through you!

Hey Gittergreen!

I just put them in an empty pill bottle and store them in our drying closet in the dark. I have Jalapeno seeds stored this same way in there that are several years old and they still germinate fine. I figure that these seeds should last at least as long if stored the same way.

Just keep them dry and in a dark space at normal room temps of 65-72 degrees F.

ive heard of this wintering, is it needed, i have had different reviews on doing this, some growers do give them some winter weather and others dont, but i have noticed that the growers that dont weather them seem to end up with a load of males,

do you mind if i ask about the weathering, would you do this strait after harvesting the seeds or would you wait till you wanted to plant them then give them some winter time in the fridge,

I usually winter right before I sow. Last batch of 10 got me 3 males.

GDP Starting to Turn Purple
The purple pigment is very strong on the underside of most of the leaves now, but hardly noticeable on the top side of green leaves. Only the lighter yellow ones are showing purple on the upper leaf surface. Most likely due to the lack of Chlorophyll which allows the purple pigment to show through to the upper leaf surface. Overnight low temps have been about 55-58 degrees F.

Eventually, the entire leaf turns purple both top and bottom and the color gets darker and darker over time. By harvest time, some of the smaller bud leaves have turned so dark purple that they are almost to the point of being black.

(You can see this to some degree in the third photo down. The bud at the bottom LEFT of the photo.)

Based on the current color change point, I would say that these plants have about another 2.5 weeks to go before the chop. This is based on my records from last year's GDP grow. Stay tuned for another quickie photo update of some of my Harlequin. I moved a couple plants to the patio deck of the guest house for more light and less PM issues.

:thanks:

Harlequin at Week 6
The top of one of the two plants I moved from the backhill onto our guest patio deck. More sunlight for longer periods down there, but not much room for plants this big! Had to move a couple of the smaller potted plants to the most sunexposed side of the backhill to make room on the deck. These two were too big to fit in that area of the hill.

And yes... They are as tall as the edge of the roof! ;)

Everything is still 100% cloudy right now (Trichomes). I keep checking every morning for any signs of amber, but so far... nothing. 6 weeks is still a bit early to expect to see any amber development, but since I am not familiar with Harlequin, I need to keep checking them daily.

Stay tuned! :)
