GDB Does Cosmic Lights & Other Photos

@Grand Daddy Black I tie flies for fly fishing and one of the tools is an inexpensive fly tying magnified visor that I wear on my head. It works perfectly for operating on the seedlings to remove helmets and the membranes. If you can see what you're doing your success rate for helmet and membrane removal will increase exponentially.

Hello grow horde.

Just a quick update on the Cosmic Lights. She's on day 25 and is still getting only 2g of Mega Crop. For her next feed, I'll be increasing the MC to 3g or real close to it. Her roots are much fuller now so I'll be putting her in her 5 gallon pot soon.

She's sharing the 2x2 tent with some baby autos now, but I'll move them out when I up-pot her and she'll have all the room to herself. She should do well in the small tent under the MarsHydro TS-1000.

Peace be with you all.

Hey @Grand Daddy Black can I ask what the wooden slats are for on the bottom of the tent?

Beez, it's just something I like to do. I water my plants until runoff and when I put them back in the tent I want air to be able to circulate under the pots to help them dry out again. (After all, they're fabric pots, might has well take advantage of that.)

No scientific basis. It just makes sense to me.

What do you think? :Rasta:

Well, since you asked ;) One of the things I like most about fabric pots is setting them in a saucer and watering from the bottom every few waterings. It's cool to pour water into the saucer and an hour later it's all been sucked up by the plant. I am wondering if you are losing much reflected light off the bottom of the tent? One thing I don't like is having my plants (in fabric pots) in standing water. Whatever the plant doesn't suck up after 1 hour I suck up with my little wet/dry shop vac. This is of course just one mans opinion and observations.

Hadn't thought about the reflected light. And I've never considered watering from the bottom. Let me turn on Einstein and see what I end up thinking. :Rasta: Wow, that was fast! Einstein said to get smaller slats and keep doing it the way I am.

So you input was of value, Beez. Thanks!

It works for you that's for sure.

Hello grow gang.

Just a quick update on the Cosmic Lights.

She's on day 29. This morning I up-potted her to her final 5 gallon pot. I had considered to going from the solo cup to a 1 gallon pot and then the 5, but then I absent-mindedly used all of my 1gal pots.

Anyway, she was bone dry and droopy when I re-potted her. This pic is about an hour afterward and she's starting to perk back up.

That's all for now.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

She looks quite happy in her new pot. Like giving a kid with size 11 feet and size 9 sneakers a new pair of Nikes. Stretching out those toes!! :)

Hello grow crew.

Nothing really to report on the Cosmic Lights. She's on day 36. From soil to tip she's 12.5 inches. Her leaves are starting to show a light purple hue. I know you can't see it in the pic, but trust me. :Rasta:

Her last feed was Mega Crop at 3.2g per gallon. I've also started using 3ml per gallon of Stout MSA (for silica).
I'm torn about whether to up her MC. She shows no signs of wanting more. However, in the past when I have waited until the plant shows signs of wanting more, I often have waited too long.

She needs to be fed today and I think I'll up it to 3.5g per gallon.

Later!

My experience with MC which I have used quite a bit is that I keep bumping it up .25 grams every other feeding until I start to see just the tiniest "burning" of the leaf tips. Once I see that sign I hold where I'm at with the MC dosage until the plant is fully into flowering at which time I slowly start bumping it up again. The leaves on your plant have a real healthy color and look nice and shiny. She looks real healthy.

Just found your new hangout! I'll pull up a beanbag if you don't mind. Ironing boards are too rigid for me.
It looks like the Cosmic Lights will be my only photo plant. I'll be growing her in my 2x2 tent.
You can easily fill that 2x2 with one plant, so it's perfect!
I personally will leave the water in the saucer overnight. If there’s anything in the morning then I dump it... but there never is
Then you're never watering to runoff. Might work for LOS but isn't recommended for synthetic nutes.

Hey beez, nice to see you around!

works fine with MC plants. They often need more water than their root zone can hold during mid flower
