Gator Uncaged

Vert may have 5 weeks to clear out of there

Eight PEs to the left are @ 12 days, and quite involved.
600 bulb set aside for a 400 (spare gear), too close. 600 vert needs 4 X 4

'Bushy' is ripe & ready, foreground bush maybe 2 weeks.. not sure

Other side of bushes is the SoG start, with others. Open horizontal 600 JDL @ 110%

I'm close to completing another grow box for 600 SoG, which will have stadium seating and timed drip feeding. When the vert clears this box, it will be scrapped. A twin to the new one will go up in it's place. One is on when the other's off, both 600 with one of them JDL.
Lots of lumber for less than a tent. A dedicated AC and Fuzzy CO2 will be sealed in with both boxes, for summer. I couldn't find an angle for a picture, but the boxes will be 4 X 4.5 X 8 feet high. Room plus for a 40" sq table, with room to get in there alongside. Room under the table for Homer buckets, feed and drain.

Sounds like you've got a great plan for the summer.

With the larger-wattage bulbs, do you notice a... Taller useful area, or do they just penetrate farther in the band around the bulb area? Like... Could a single 600-watt replace (or come close) a stacked pair of 400s, do you think? Or would a single 1000-watter replace a pair of 400s with maybe even a little more usable height?

"how high do you keep the vert light above the canopy during veg?"

I have a bloom-schedule box, and a shelf in a closet for cuttings. No real place for vegging at the moment, so... Moms and the few small plants that I veg have been moved around daily, when they're too tall for the shelf and it's T8s.
These two trays spent the night under HPS flowering night, but came out for sun when lights went off.

Couple hours of sun is good. 7 moms and three PE wannabes.

If I intentionally veg with vert, the top of the bulb is about even with the top of the growth. Without light directly over the top of the plants, they lose interest in getting tall. Side branching happens, and nugs rather than solid thick colas result in better weight and bag appeal.
Tonight, new box should be tasked with veg duty with a CMH. New mom accommodations are scheduled after vert box teardown & replacement.

A lot of thinking and puffing went into my summer conversion plans, your approval reads nicely. Now, I need to do it.

Though I 'got away with it', 600 is too much vert in a 40" box. This final vert run has 400 now. The flat side is 600+ 10% JDL.
600 vert need a 4ft box, 1000 would likely need 5+. Stacking bulbs is for stacked flooded tubes, or over-vegged plants that take space better tasked to flowering IMO. Effective height is a bit more with 600 than 400, and penetration is a bit deeper, but... keeping the growth within the torus-shaped sweet spot without blocking neighbors is the trick.
One future scheme dream is a four light vert array, single level. Five bushy plants, 6+ foot square with 600s. 8 or 10 feet with 1000s

Extra 10% helps a little to reach out to the edges, I can raise the light a fraction higher. I run it now however, mostly to demonstrate JDL's reliability. It's built for service? Let it serve :)

The vert side has spoken: PE together only. The different one will go, it is a too tall Pineapple Chunk:

The 2-week PEs want the space, and deserve it: they deliver. PCs a freak, and I don't much miss that which I haven't yet tried. She's also 2 weeks, :rip:
Bushy one is 7 weeks and is talking to me: "Pssst, take me now Daddy I'm ripe & ready". I hear & smell her and cannot say that I don't care.

Look at this gangly bitch:
