GardeningGnome's Gorilla Glue, Jack Herer, Critical & Northern Lights: Coco & LED, 2020

For ph down I have been using my homebrewed kombucha. Similar to vinegar I suppose but with all sorts of goodies. The plants seem to like it. Still waiting for someone else to say they do too haha
Interesting

Another interesting idea!

I’ve just always PH’d mine to the recommended sweet spots because when I was first learning before I even started growing it was the first thing that was drilled into my brain. I have seen other gardens suffer tho with all kinds of different nutrient uptake issues because certain nutrients are taken up at different PH levels and they are different with soil and hydro. There are as Nivek stated other cheaper alternatives to the commercial PH up and down products that are relatively easy to find around the house. It does seem with growing there’s almost always something else to get. With the dehumidifier I thankfully get free prime shipping but can imagine on a unit that heavy it would be astronomical. :( With the humidity issues cheaper alternatives that help some but not a whole lot if the humidity is too high is heat (I put a small heater in the tent to get the temps up some which lowers the humidity in the air, also things called damp rids that are also helpful) those are the two things I have been using to keep mine at a not great but reasonable level.

Going to have a go with the lime-juice tonight to try and adjust the pH.
Will proceed with care and keep the nutrients on a low dosage.

Again, grateful for your wisdom @candycane !

Get yourself a decent pH pen and keep and get the pH down. If your running coco its very important to keep pH in the right range or it will create nutrient lock out.

Yup, a good pH meter seems to be the way forward @Killerbudz .
Just got myself the cheap kit this week to test it out. The onces available here are quite expensive. Will have a look at Amazon for a good one with cheap shipping to Scandinavia.

I am curious what nutrient line are you using GG?

Currently using/have this available:

Growth Technology Formulex
Growth Technology Green Fuse Root
Growth Technology IONIC Coco Grow
Growth Technology IONIC MagCal Pro
*Blood meal (possible)
*Bone meal (possible)
*Chicken manure (possible)

During previous grows I've used organic nutrients such as compost-tea, blood-meal and dried chicken manure.
I've dissolved the blood-meal and dried chicken manure in hot water and watered with it last year. I'll keep this on standby (not use them) and try the other/new nutrients for now, which is the Growth Tech line.
(The compost-tea as an option is out of the question until I get my garden going. )

Not really familiar with any of those but make sure you reduce your feed strength using multiple bottles.

Yup!
Always keep it to one of two of them in combination, never mixing more than that.
And also going on about 1/4 of the normal strenght.

The nutrients are from the same company that developed Clonex, and one of few good lines available for a good price in this country that I've come across. They have a truckload of reliable products, everything from Liquid Silicon to a few different Coco options.

Is there a ionic bloom?
Correct, there is is a Coco Grow (for veg) and one Coco Bloom.

I'll hang around if ya don't mind

Welcome brother! Happy to have you here.
Great with more experienced eyes on my ladies, especially with the improvments implemented during this grow.

If you are interested to read an honest up-n-down-n-up story, do have a look at my introduction. Should go perfectly together with a smooth smoke. I'm deeply in awe of how friendly, wise and warm this community is.

Had a quick look at your journal, some really interesting seeds right there!!! Interesting to see some seed-companies sponsoring good people. Will have a closer read during the evening. Busy at the moment with checking all my houseplants after treating them with nematodes earlier this week. One quick question @Preston9mm (didn't see the answer at the first glance, perhaps missed it) but are you also growing in coco? Always a tad extra interesting with others that select to grow in this medium.

Been updating this thread like a mofo and have some updates on pile from yesterday's changes to pH and feeding.
Will have some new photos later this evening. The ladies are looking like a million buds. That's the saying right? ;)

Again good sir, happy to have you here!

Yup! I'm in straight coco, using Dyna-Gro nutrients.

Hittin' more trees than blind Tarzan.
Can't help but to smile every time I read your signature. I got an extremely visual way of thinking...
Keep picturing a completely dazed jungle man, swinging in the tree tops smashing haaaard. haha

Oh snap!

Then I salute you once more. Just to be sure I'm on your good side. :)
I've grown in coco since last year, but this is the first grow in coco that I'm taking names and kicking ass. Nothing left to chance and all problems/issues addressed. Already gotten a tremendous amount of support, encouragement, feedback, and advice from others following my grow. Again, amazed by this community...

Hope you can give a needing fella some input when needed... (Wait... that sounded dirty.... You know what I mean.... )

Perhaps I should take the opportunity and ask you about something now @Preston9mm :
It is regarding feeding for the Jack Herer that sprouted the first pair of real leaves only three days ago.

Jack is standing in coco and perlite. I've given it foliar-feed with Formulex several times a day, kept the humidity high and been very sparse with feeding it, only small amounts of nutrition (Formulex) at 1/4 strength. I have a "root stimulator" (GreenFuse Root) that is made for early stages and design to work well with Formulex. Both nutrients come from Growth Technologies. Now my question comes; Should I go for a good soak of the Jack today, adding the root stimulator? Or should I keep foliar-feeding it, and let the roots fight and grow to seek out nutrients? What is your experience for early stages?

And; @shottafire @candycane @GIjose @Modest grower @Killerbudz @DonkeyDick @bluenoserjoe @MrSauga , why do you think?

A penny for your thoughts!

I've never used foliars (always been gun-shy), so I can't speak to that.

I do start feeding my seedlings right from the start though. I use 1/4 strength for a week or 2, then titrate up to where i want em.

agree with @Preston9mm ,, completely,, tho i am in hempy, not coco,, there are many similarities tho,, tho this is not a medium issue

a fert issue,, and for sure, younguns need fert,,

i have just recently become successful at tending my younguns, i use 'mega crop, fert,, there is a whole thread on the stuff,, not trying to convert ya, just an fyi

i was consistently losing a week or even two of growth in my younguns because of poor feeding practices,, i have very much improved recently and now see the need, the plants show me,, see the need for early fert,, tho brand new sprouts will die immediately if they are ferted

start easy and behold how quickly the plants will want more,, startling really,, and so easy to see with mega crop

a link to the mega crop thread if you like,,

I'll let the coco pros answer that question :)
I like that approach, a man after my own heart.
Combining the "strong silent type" with handing over the experts.

I tip my hat to you, good sir.

I agree with Preston and Nivek and I don’t use a foliar either so I can’t speak on it and use MegaCrop like Nivek and follow the suggestions of that nute line from the start.

Roger that. Straight forward answer. Perfect, first feedback in!

I'm actually testing a few methods to bring my pH down before mixing the feed today. Perfect in wait to hear from the others.

Yesterdays feed with lime-juice for most of them, and one of the weaker GG's got vinegar instead of lime to bring the pH down. All have responded well. But wanted to boil the water today for example, and interesting to see how the GreenFuse Root will impact the pH. Will return with details!

More reading? On a subject, I hardly know anything about? I luv it!
Bookmarked for coffee-time.

Thanks for the feedback @nivek . Another vote for giving the young Jack proper food, with strong arguments. Kudos!
