Gardenfaerie Outdoor Organic Summer 2014 Flux and LST in Ground

Lester, no worries. I don't ever feel like my way is THE way. I haven't a clue what these plants will do so my guess is only a guess. If the containers weren't so gigantic I'd try moving them in, but I have plenty of pot to last me so we will all see what happens as time passes. I hope you are right! Fat buddage in the fall. Indeed.

I'll try to get close photos, but the plants are under the scrog and my agility is oh so very poor! Mark is useless with the camera AND holding the loop AND being in focus. I'll do my best to get flowers. Did you see the most recent photos I put up? I think two days ago or maybe yesterday?

Kodiak, than you very much, how nice. Tell your wife hey and the people here are wonderful and helpful.
Thank you for the compliment.

Yeah I saw all the photos but cannot see the actual flower development in them. I am sure it is going slow.

I knew that when you set up those screens it would be very difficult to physically inspect the plants. I find that when the buds are in hard flower I have to be able to physically examine each cola and look into each nook and cranny looking for signs of caterpillars and mold.

I don't know if you've grown this many plants or are prepared for such an event. It is hard to see all of our hard work for 6+ months go to waste by such treachery. I hope you are prepared. :Namaste:

This is my first in the ground growing for pot. I grew some plants last summer in containers outside, but I didn't start them until late June so I did not get much. 1/4 pound I think.

I may have to remove the screen, which is really fine by me. I have plenty of ways to get plants to hold up until they put on girth.
All the plants are very dense. I will do a good shoot and then maybe you can tell me if I should defol or just leave it be. I forgot if it was you who disagreed with defoliation. I think it was you. I sort of sit on the fence with it. I think healthy foliage is there for a reason. By all means, remove the dead stuff. But I see what Dennise's plants do after she defols and wow. Under lights is different. Right?

I would not defoliate anything as your plants look lush, healthy, and happy.

The only reason to defoliate outside is to increase the airflow throughout the "bushy canopy" that can be created from all sorts of crazy LST and bud-site fimmings. As well as nearly dead leaves that are plucked off with ease.

Defoliation can be necessary outside if the plants are just too bushy and vigorous, but most often the plants do not need the extra wounds to make them more bug and mold prone. As you know, the leaf itself is a source of nutrients and energy which can be allocated upon cell death, so if the canopy has even airflow distribution there is really no reason to be cutting leaves off left and right. Indoor is much much different - the same general rules do not apply in both cases.

What I would focus on, if I were you, is I would remove the two side screens so I could get on my knees and start working with the plants. I would try to tie the limbs down more horizontally so I could completely fill out the screen on top, not worrying so much about the sides, which is basically your entry point to maintaining the root zone. I would also start to think about applying a well-brewed tea and top dressing the feeder roots which are in the first few inches of the soil. Getting your screen filled out should be your goal - however I'm guessing since the plants got into flower that their stems have become much more fibrous and woody - rendering it dangerous and tough to actually tie branches down... So it all depends on the pliability what you'll be able to do. May just have to let them do what they will.

Just my two cents :passitleft:

:)

That it's a delightful fake flower tableau.
It looks so much like a non-descript, but pleasant, ornamental foliage plant :)

C'mon outdoor growers! Make me the Light Addict of goofy ideas. I can become famous like LA for people everywhere on the planet using silk flowers. Suddenly, all stores will be stripped of silk flowers, shelves will be ransacked and a new industry will be born. Hahahaha.

Thank you everyone!

As far as my plants, I am going to let it go and what happens, happens. I am certain I will harvest what I need and for the millionth time I've said this to myself, I can always just bring it all inside and grow under lights. My next big project is going to be what kind of lights do I buy. I am going to want to light an area at least 4x4. Ultimately, I'd love to have one system in one grow area for cloning and veg and the other area for flowering. That way just keep it perpetual like Dennise does and voila.

So, I know you grow outside Lester, but if you also grow indoors what lamp do you use? I know people here are mostly using LEDs now. Do people mix CFLs with LEDs to have brighter light on the sides?

I can take down the sides of the screen, but then the rabbit can get at things. I can make it so the side can be pulled away and put back. I'll be happy if I can get photos of the flowers for you, this weekend.

The fake flowers are a really good idea for anyone who's outdoor plants might be visible from across a fence from a little distance. In my situation one neighbor can, if they want to, peek though a reed screen and crane their neck and see my two outdoor plants I'm not that worried about it, but better safe than sorry. It'll be fun to see how your camo turns out, GF.

There is a dollar store next to a grocery store I shop at. After GF mentioned fake flowers the other day I decided to wander in and see if they had any and sure enough they did. It only cost a couple of bucks. Beyond having a delightful high-jinx quality the plant really looks like something other than weed from even a modest distance. I have a few more stems for when the plant gets bigger, too. It really is a great idea, GF.

There may be some entertainment value in entering it in POTM next month. :laughtwo:

Ha, POTM with pink flowers. I just came home from the store. Damn, I didn't think of the dollar store, but I got a good deal on a lifetime supply of pink and also white flowers. I'm going to put them on the plants tomorrow. It's so hot out there you can't even breath. I'm also rethinking the screen. With the fake flowers, I won't need as much camouflage.

The dollar store was just a coincidental thing... What I got were called "orchid sprays." The long plastic stems are pushed directly into the soil. The snap-apart construction will make it possible to lengthen the stems of the sprays as the plant grows. The ratty quality of dollar store fake flowers is a good thing. I reckon you'll have a fun time and many giggles with your disguising endeavors.

Thanks again for a fun and effective suggestion. It tickles me to death.

Awesome garden and I love how you added everything to your already existing garden and it looks natural. Great journal, subbed kinda late, but hey better late than never. :rollit:

Hey GF, truly loving the disguising ideas and result! :) bloody awesome going, just wish I could give it a whirl :)

I'll tell you, growing outside is not as much fun as I thought. We have had the strangest cloud cover for well over a month now. We get some sun coming through, but then clouds for an hour or so and it is every day. The plants are bulking up in bud and I have no control. I found a worm on one bud so I removed it and bought the Bt spray. I'll spray later or in the morning.

So anyway, I have three clones now of the Lemon Kush and will take cuttings of the others also. I'll try to grow one of each indoors, but I don't have the proper lights. I have CFLs. Can I do a whole grow on that till I buy my LED? I'm still watching Dennise, King, and your Godlight for final results. I'll spend the money, but it better be the best light on earth! :)

Don't get discouraged. As Lester pointed out it is still early in the growing season. If the plants are doing a half-hearted flower now they will sort it out. It's only the first day of summer (happy solstice) and harvest won't be until the fifth of sixth week of fall. You'll be bouncing up and down with fun by then.

I have somewhat of an update with photos. I watered with regular garden hose water because the whole yard needed to be watered and it was just too hot to stand out there and selectively water. Then it rained this morning a little and again all week we expect clouds every single day with some sun peeking out. What the? So weird. Last summer it was sun from March 21 through December...sunny in the night, sunny no matter what, even if it was a hurricane! Now, not a drop. Feh. So here are my plants. I still have six, two in containers.

Lester, I think you wanted photos of the flowers, so here ya go. I did the best I could without falling over like a weeble. LOL

These were the ones I started to flux. It is not exactly what LA does, but it will have a bunch of tops so I'm not unhappy. When LA gets going with full on videos and his lights and his ebb and flo system...THEN I go full fluxsational.
