Gallery Upload Issues

I don’t know where I would go to test that.
@Bonsaiweed ?

I don't know, because one of the new members, I was helping, figured it out. That is the only reason I know what the problem was. I don't remember a place to create a private album.

I think I found it....someone will have to tell me if they just see text from the picture above.

If you go to add media,

you can create a new personal album at the bottom of the album list. Its default is album member only.

I gave up trying to figure out all this MEMBER ALBUM Noise
I now scroll to list of Member albums and click on the first photo
to bring me to that album page, I started a few albums but could
never remember the names. The user interface is very difficult to understand

EDIT: I am talking about the DRILL DOWN menu thing, followed by the
Scroll Down menu thing AND dont forget to Scroll down again to CONTINUE
or whatever it says

I see the photo, but I am an admin, so I probably see everything.
so you are omnipotent!

Yep - I only see the link and when I click that link I go to a page and get the message

"Oops! We ran into some problems.
You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action."

Re mail notifications

I went to a thread I have visited before

Turned on watch + email notification

I've received an email with every new post.

I have not visited the thread at all since I set the email option.

It all works pefectly
The Cannabis Goddess has Blessed you!
I agree AK, that's the only explanation! - the problem still persists for others and is maybe (maybe) connected to previously watched threads, not newly watched threads (that's me speculating - because that's the scenario which has been described to me mostly).

Glad it's working for you there OB, please keep an eye on it to see if it gets inconsistent at all and if you really do continue to get an email for every post. You might have to visit it without logging in to check that...

:Namaste:

Image uploading seems to work fine for people using phones but on PC it's is still so annoying I haven't uploaded any pics in weeks. I refer to my previous posts on this thread which I'm not sure how to search for. It's given me time to work on another project which is good but it would be nice to upload pics again.

I know you guys at 420 are working your butts off to get the website up and running smoothly again but pictures and being able to easily upload and display those pictures is a huge part of what this site is all about. You know, like 'bud porn' (I hate that term). And if someone says "I have a problem can someone help" the typical response is "can you post a picture" which is difficult if image uploading sucks.

Hi Nightmask, I’m not having any issue uploading from my desktop PC. Can you describe what happens when you try?

In the meantime you can search within the thread you’re viewing. Click the magnifying glass in the top right area of the screen/window and where it says “Everywhere “ - click/tsp on that and you can change it to this thread. Then you can specify yourself in the ‘by’ box and you’ll get all your posts in this thread (and narrower if you specify a word as well)

just checking too, that you’ve seen the updated tutorial on gallery uploading.
Photo Gallery Guide - How to Resize, Upload & Post Photos

If you can be really descriptive about whatever problem arises for you that will help (and include the browser / OS versions too if you can)

Hope we can get it working for you, and soon!!

Oh ok - so I went back and checked and I get your issue now.

I included the ‘drag and drop’ feature when I made a list for Rob of bugs and requests coming out of this thread. It’s on the list to be looked at - but will depend on if the software supports the function.

I get around it by dumping or copying all the pics I want to a folder on my desktop so I can get to them easily from that browser - maybe treat that as a similar thing to being able to drag them to the upload box... My guess is it’ll be a while before that request gets looked at.

Can you please be more specific with steps you are taking, pages you are on, screenshots, etc. so we can try to duplicate the problem. Operating system, device, Mac or PC, browser, are the all up to date? This is the first I am hearing of this.

Your work around sounds like it'd work much easier but it still sounds annoying. I'm using a PC and standard digital camera, so after taking pics I gotta take out the memory card and plug it into the computer then I view them and name them and put them onto a removable hard drive in separate folders based on which plants/set and which stage of growth (veg, flower, harvest) for easy sorting and later viewing. Before I could do that and when I wanted to upload to 420 I'd just plug in the drive and using an image viewing software look at the pictures in each directory and drag-and-drop my favourites into the 420 upload box and it was simple and easy to use. Sure I could put a folder on my desktop for easy access and drag-and-drop from image software to that folder but if I did a whole heap at once they wouldn't be in the order or grouping I'd want to upload or I'd have to do a few pics at a time to get the grouping right and either way I'd have to delete all those pictures afterwards because I want them stored on an external hard-drive and not on my desktop.
The site is fantastic and this community is full of the best people I've ever had the pleasure of talking to but if that is going to be the 'best' or 'easiest' way for me to upload pictures that might be a deal breaker for me and I might have to search around for another site with easier image uploading.

Can you please be more specific with steps you are taking, pages you are on, screenshots, etc. so we can try to duplicate the problem. Operating system, device, Mac or PC, browser, are the all up to date? This is the first I am hearing of this.

I've made two previous posts about the issue on this thread and explained the problem in those posts in detail. I was about to say I didn't know how to search for them but thanks to Amy I now know how to and you can find my previous posts here and here. Amy said it has been added to the list of things to fix but may be software dependent on if it's doable or not.

Yep - what you describe is pretty much how i do it when I'm using digital camera pics. I have a dedicated 'uploads' folder with sub folders as required for categories and plants etc like you mention... but this is seperate to my library, it's just for the 420 uploads. The files are copied there beforehand and deleted afterwards so I always know I'm going to upload all files in a particular folder. I don't see that as being way more cumbersome that the old way you used to do it - it's one extra step, to copy/collate the files before upload. It'd be disappointing to say the least to lose a valued member because of one step! Hopefully you can hang in there with it for a while - at least until Rob has time to investigate the drag n drop option.

The reason I've made a couple of collated lists for the @420 Admin team is because there's no way Rob can remember all the detail that's come by in this thread. So if anyone needs to re-flag an issue or question, it would be good to describe it fully again, as a reminder. Nightmask, I thought you were talking about a whole new problem until you mentioned the previous posts and then I remembered when I saw them. They were the reason i included the request for a drag n drop option in the first list. I'll double check and make sure it didn't drop off when I updated it recently!! (Edit: just checked, it’s still there )

I don't know how much of a valued member I am considering my grow journal has 1 person subbed to it but I won't be going anywhere in a hurry. I haven't been able to (or don't want to) upload pics using the current system for like a month and I'm still here, though I'm certainly not on here as often and I've updated my grow journal only once or twice since. It's given me time to work on another project so I've actually been pretty happy with the time away from 420 but I'd like to get back to posting pics at some point.

Your way of uploading does sound easier but it's extra steps that shouldn't need to be taken. And it's not just 1 extra step. Find the pics you want from your general pic storage area, copy them to your desktop 420 only uploads folder, use 420 and the browser navigation to select and upload the pics, then delete pics from that folder (and rinse and repeat for every time you wanna upload pics or sets of pics).

In future I'll try to re-describe my issue, but I kinda did that already with my second post (just not the third). I would have linked to my previous posts in that third post but I didn't know how to search a thread for posts by me (I do now thanks to you so thankyee very muchly). I don't think I'm the only person having an issue with the PC picture upload system since my previous posts got a number of likes and you yourself have an issue with it and created your own 'work-around'. I know the 420 folks are super busy trying to iron out the kinks on the upgraded website and I've taken time off for another project which is why I haven't brought it up more but for a website that's so image heavy it'd be nice to have an image uploading system that's easy to use. The previous drag-and-drop system (or something like it) meant you didn't have to create a dedicated folder for 420 and you didn't need to copy or delete anything because the copy/upload was the same thing and nothing needed to be deleted.

"Oops! We ran into some problems.

So we know what is happening, now to decide if the admins want that ability on the forum. I see no useful functionality of having a private folder, except to store pictures on the 420 Magazine forum website. I'm sure the person paying for the server doesn't want that happening.

Thanks for the reply @Amy Gardner . I see that picture....so it's weird to be told it doesn't appear. I was starting to wonder if I was just full of it.

I believe @420 tried to disable the PRIVATE option, now we need to verify if he was successful or not

I am also a big fan of the drag and drop in the media window that would be splendiferous

If you add new media it gives you a list of categories. At the bottom it lets you create a personal album.
When you select create a personal album it allows you to select who can view images in that gallery. By default it is set to album owner only.
I assume this is the problem. If so this image probably isn’t visible.

The picture I posted is private. The admins see it, but the members do not. I did this after he stated that he had fixed the private issue.

I may be wrong, for my head is all screwed up, but I believe that is the time line. If I'm wrong, maybe @Amy Gardner will state as such.

Thanks so much @DrDoob. That explains it so much better.....
