Gallery Upload Issues

Overall speed has increased dramatically, photos are still slow on my iPad
Working on photos as we speak, they are currently not resizing for some reason, so we are working on a fix.

Amy, please test with InTheShed again on those new uploads.

Uploads from the last few weeks are not fixed yet, only new photos being uploaded from now on are.

We need to write a script tomorrow to find those huge images and resize them, then they will be fixed as well.

On a desktop using chrome, right click any of those pics. In the new tab they are 4000 X 6000, once in the new tab you can left click once and expand the pic to full size.

They were taken with a midrange nikon dslr, same i have used in the past.

EDIT: I forgot to mention when you right click choose open image in new tab

Can you please be more specific; what photos, new ones uploaded within the last hour, photo uploads you are trying to upload or what? :thanks:

Amy, pages with photos that were uploaded before we restricted the height/width a few days ago, will probably still load slow because they are huge, that page has 141MB of photos on it alone. So I'm getting our developer to write a script search/find/resize them. Meanwhile, we discovered another level of the rabbit hole causing the slowness, so we're getting more help because the issue is spread across 3 pieces of software.

I wasn't able to post pictures when logged in on my laptop this morning. I could pull up my gallery but my selection(s) wouldn't activate. It's possible that the issue is with my laptop but since I'm not sure I thought I'd mention it here.

So, not only was I not able to post pictures from my laptop, but also my post didn't show up.... at all. It appeared to have posted but I cannot find it, so I shall try again.

Does the uploading software still re-orient photographs the right way? My camera for some reason takes pictures sideways and it's always fixed it when I uploaded before.

It was for a bit.... or at least it seemed like it was. But I had a sideways pic in the last batch I uploaded. I try to take pics in landscape mode as those seem to always come up correctly

Looks like uploads are working fine.

Hi - that was me, except I said I was trying not to be creeped out by it!

I don’t need to go dark (although I have now set all those privacy options to ‘members only’ - which feels better, but I did notice there’s not an option for managing who follows you...).

I question the way the following works. I can’t see who is following me apart from the notification I get when they first do so. So unless I keep a list of those notices somewhere - I don’t really know.

ON other sites and social networks, when individuals follow or fired each other it is through an exchange process. The old 420 friends system was like that too. I guess i find it uncomfortable that this exchange aspect has disappeared and now “Following” has really got nothing to do with the contacts or connections we make with each other. SO it’s not a real substitute for the “Friend” system - rather a way to follow people regardles of whether you’ve had any contact with them or not.
See, I think it’d be more about camraderie if the following were a mutual exchange.

It doesn’t feel ‘community’ enhancing to me as it currently works - just a way of tracking another member. I didn’t do much with the old friend system, but I liked that you had a choice to accept a friend request or not.

It’s just one of the changes that I’m having to work to adjust to, mentally, that’s all.

This is not a request to do anything about it - I realise there’re many things highter up the priority list. I just had to respond to what Rob thought I’d said - which wasn’t quite what I’d said ;). And to clarify why the new system doesn’t feel as comfortable to me as the old one. I’ll get used to it ...:surf:

I unfollowed you. I don't want to be a creeper......

Also, I don't know if this is the right place, but could we update the photo upload tutorial to include something about making things private.

I've had three people make their pictures or albums private, and I have no idea how to talk them through how to change them to public. Need to add into the tutorial to not make their photos or albums private if they want anyone to see them, even if they post them in messages. It may be there, but people are not heeding the warning.

Just one more thing to do......sorry.

I'm confused, you've talked about 4 different things; threads, messages, photos and albums.

Can you please be more specific? :)
Sorry, my brain is having a hard time the last few days. (I have no medication, so that isn't the problem with me)

New members are making their albums and some of their pictures private. This causes them to not appear in the threads when they try to link to them from the gallery embed function.

I have no idea how they are doing this. I just know, I was helping three different people that had done this. After the first one, I knew what the problem was, but I still have no idea how to fix it.

I went back through the threads I've posted to, but when they corrected the issue, the pictures show up.

I think this time I used terminology that will narrow down the issue.

Sorry for the confusion.
