G-1-3 Grows Strawberry Cough And Panama

Br
Well we have some movement on the Panama :nervous-guy:. That light brown spot is the @DYNOMYCO the seed was rolled in before putting it in the plug and it wasn't there yesterday lol.

Its going to be slow around here for a week or two so here's a picture of my current flower tent that's not getting posted in that journal.

Beautiful!
:welcome: Thanks for stopping by! That was the harvest I just about wrapped up. It's the G-1-3 Grows with help from NASC in my signature.

Well I had the time and the girls got up potted tonight. The one Panama looks healthier than the other and that's the one I went with. So the pieces are coming together for this grow and my last big piece is the taller tent that should be arriving tomorrow weather permitting.

I'm going to be feeding them a slightly different way than the recommended amounts from Gaia Green. In Veg I will be feeding 2 tbsp of 4-4-4 and 5 tbsp of 2-8-4, slightly different than @Gee64 does his to get his Brix up. I want to have some good initial growth so the extra nitrogen should help. I will post a complete breakdown of my feeding plan for these girls when it comes time to top dress in the coming weeks.

The nutrients I use are bought from my local grow store and is an easy way to grow organically, no big potions or yards of soil to amend. Just a simple top dressing out of a bucket, a jar of water with dissolved prilled Dolomite lime and a $20 Refractometer is mostly what I'll use during this grow. It's what I found fits my grow style and I'm feeling more confident with each grow. I'll try to answer any questions the best I can and hopefully demonstrate the way I've found works best for me.

Thanks again for following along and I'm going to call this Veg day 1 now that the girls are in their final homes.

That’s amazing that you’re able to grow organic like that and not have to put all the work into it. That’s the main reason I don’t do it, I don’t have the time to do all that! That’s why I tried DWC, time…. Les time spent in the grow room on a daily basis the better :)

I should give my local grow store a call. They have a bunch of stuff going on there and one of them cool curing fridges full of buds :)

What exactly are you getting from your local store?

Wow! she's a rooty lil bugger!🥰

I grew a Panama Red from Ace Seeds a few years back. It grew like an indica. All leaf, covered in crystal, which I thought was odd, but very potent and a great sativa buzz.

Hey sorry it was a long weekend and I missed these comments 😂.

So I use Gaia Green All Purpose 4-4-4, Gaia Green Power Bloom 2-8-4, Earth Worm Castings, and Neptune's Harvest hydrolysate fish nutes and Prilled Dolomite lime. The EWC and lime I bought from Home Depot because they were on sale at the end of summer but the Zon has the Lime and fish nutes cheap, and my grow store has EWC in big sacks so that will be where I get them from now. I do have Gaia Green Phosphate but one bucket will last me 20 grows probably lol. It is easy just top dress once a week, make sure they have water and add the occasional fish nutes and dolomite water.

Lol that rooty one was the cough but the Panama for being half the size had a decent amount as well. They've kinda stalled since the up pot but I figure they are building below the surface now with all that new root real estate.

Strawberry Cough
PXL_20241210_011718130.jpg

I topped the Strawberry cough to set up for a quadline. I left the last set of fans on but trimmed the shoot off of that node. She's slightly unhappy with me because of it. Both pots are currently showing a 7 on the moisture meter and soil set to 74°. They should take hold and take off soon 🤞.

I was able to get my 6' tent set up and let me tell you it is awesome. I also fired up the Controller 69 and I'm getting the environment under control although there has been a learning curve for it. Lots of extra height for activities 😂.

The seedlings look happy and needed a little water. They haven't changed much so I figured I'd show off some of my unjournaled plants lol.

Northern lights auto in a 1/3 gallon bonsai pot swick(?), organic soil, under 100watt light turned to 30%, and in a 20"x14"x21" tent.

Pheno hunt/breeder tent. 2'x2'x5', 9 plants, 8 female 1 male, something fun to chuck some pollen. Found a super unique purple leafed male out of a North Atlantic seed tester and chucked pollen at a lemon haze female that smells like sweet lemon candy and has a nice lemon tea taste. I was able to get a male and female of this cross so hopefully I can get it crossed to bring out both traits from the parents. Also some nice hybrid strains to chuck pollen at, especially the tangerine cookies I grew in my last journal.

Panama, another couple days and she'll be ready for a quadline, she's a really nice vibrant green.

I was able to Brix a leaf that I removed from the Strawberry and she came in right around 20 with a slightly fuzzy line. I will give her another week before I give her some dolomite water so her roots can stretch and find it in the soil.

Man.....That brix is thru the roof G-1-3. Ladies are looking FANTASTIC! Did you cobble together a Juicer 5000 yet?
I haven't yet lol it was like 2° with the wind chill today. Too damn cold to be looking for random nuts and bolts that may be there haha.

It's weird when plants are that high of a Brix @Gee64 said that the leaves almost feel velvety and he's right these felt like crushed velvet. Pretty neat stuff, but the Gaia Green nutes have been making it easy to pull those Brix numbers.

I don't blame you thats crazy cold. Stay warm.

What’s your process for getting your brix? Like what’s the fluid going onto your refractometer?

20! Sweet!!👊😎 Well done!

Those extra fuzzies are hairs that insulate from both heat and cold, as well as regulating evaporation because of heat regulation.

When your plants get their brix up high enough to get fuzzy they have now become both more heat and drought resistant. You need high brix to make it happen.

The plant needs to be completely healthy before it will allocate resources to become more heat and drought tolerant.

Good call on waiting on dolo-water. You learn quick🤣. It works instantly, so wait til you need it.

It's so damn cool when you 1st see it tho... you gotta go hard.🤣

👇
I took some time to take pictures of each step I do to test the Brix of my plants. It's extremely easy to do and hopefully you'll be able to see it's not as daunting as it sounds.

First pick a nice fan leaf, I always get one 2 nodes down from the top and fully grown
PXL_20240924_000117547.jpg

Second I remove the majority of the ribs because they seem to hold a lot of water and my results always are different when I include them
PXL_20240924_000223734.jpg

Third Roll the leaf blades around in a ball between your fingers until your fingers start to feel wet.
PXL_20240924_000312279.jpg

Fourth Place the leaf ball onto a hard disk, I use 2 quarters.
PXL_20240924_000334771.jpg

Fifth Make a quarter sandwich and squeeze the 2 quarters together to smash the plant material. This can be hard to do, I use a pair of 12" channel lock pliers for this.
PXL_20240924_000354952.jpg

Sixth You May not get any liquid on the first squeeze. If you don't reroll the smashed plant material, sandwich and squeeze again. The second squeeze does it for me most times and I will see moisture around the edges of the coins.
PXL_20240924_000422426.jpg

Seven The moisture drops are placed into the blue prism part of the refractometer. You don't need a ton of droplets but enough to fill the blue part.
PXL_20241003_003917866.jpg

Eight Flip the clear flap over the blue part and look through the refractometer. You should see something like this ⬇️.
PXL_20240924_001317853.MP.jpg
It's a pretty handy tool in organics. That line becomes more or less fuzzy based on the calcium in the leaf. The number represents the amount of sugars in its "sap" and the higher the healthier. I think @Gee64 said you could still use the refractometer for calcium content even with salt nutes but the Brix number will usually be lower. Ever since I have tracked my plants this way I haven't had a calcium deficiency.

Ya I made that mistake on my last grow towards the end by pushing a little extra cal. My goal is to keep them above 16, but 20 is well above what I was expecting lol. Guess my soil cooking worked?

spoiler alert.... it involves swearing!🤣
Not if you use the juicer5000 🤣🤣
Touché RR!🤣🤣🤣
I do love having one giant forearm... May even get an ⚓ tattoo like Popeye hahaha
