At The Foot Of Mount Washmore

Greetings and Salutations :420: fans! I've floated around here for a while now and have decided it is finally time for me to begin a journal. These are not my first plants but I am by no means an experienced grower. This will be a very simple, basic grow. No fancy training will be involved. While those highly trained plants are incredible I haven't the dexterity for that,... maybe someday. :cheesygrinsmiley:

So, what are we growing? We have one Harlequin, Sammy. She was the one and only viable seed from my first colloidal silver project. Something killed that mother plant and it was way beyond me to save her. It was such a bummer but I got the one seed and she's really looking pretty good. Not perfect, but good. She has vegged forever (first of February) in the tiny closet in my laundry room. (I call the laundry room Mt. Washmore...) Sammy vegged under an old style TopLED 100 x 3w until 6/21, and was in super soil that had about 50% recycled from the previous grow. I gave her a moderately heavy defol then she was potted up into the soil mix Sweetleef put together in a 3 gal. tall plastic pot. This will be replaced with another cloth pot in the next grow. More on the soil in a bit. It is worthy of it's own post to discuss it's loveliness. Truly.

We also have one HarleSin clone that Sweetleef left with me Sunday. Toni is for our next seed project. She is in a 5 gallon cloth pot that Sweetleef made and filled with that gorgeous soil. Her tops got pinched or something in the shuffle Sunday but I think she will work it out. I'll keep an eye on her.

In an effort to keep from rambling too much, I will add just a few more things. The girls are now in a 4x4 'space' that Sweetleef put together, or enclosed, for me with some furring strips and panda film. It is not yet light proof, which will be dealt with over the next couple of weeks. I also need to decide on exactly how to finish the 'door'. I believe that will end up with a zipper...and we left the panda film long in case we have some adjustments to make and to keep light out at the bottom. We hung my new Mars-Hydro 144x5w, a nice upgrade from my first light, but not enough for my entire space. We just placed the plants accordingly. Due to my physical limitations, things are still trial and error as to what setup will work best for me. Things are subject to change without prior notice, but probably not! :blunt:

I've not done very well at all in my effort not to ramble on, but I would be remiss in not thanking Sweetleef. He always goes above and beyond for me and is the reason I get to have these amazing plants in my home. Sweetleef is pretty amazing for a creepy little brother and you will be hearing his name again. We flip to flower on July 12th and I am excited to get it moving! Thank you so much for stopping by! Pictures to follow!

Here is Sammy today. My photographer was a bit impatient tonight so I'm not terribly happy with them, anyway, here they are...

That's where things stand as of now. I'll keep ya posted!

Thank you for stopping by TopCat! :welcome: I am happy to see you! I have so much catching up to do today. I will pop over to yours and check out the girls in a bit!

Thank you, Sweetleef! I'm trying to get caught up with my journal reading and it is taking me forever! I must press on!

So Sammy is not without issue,... of course. :scratchinghead: She has twisting leaves. I had her in a complete soil and had begun to supplement with cal-mag for her last two waterings before re-potting. I have not given anything except water, on Monday, waiting to see how she adjusts to the new soil, room, light and defol. She's had an eventful week. It is my hope that once she gets her feet into this new soil things will turn around for her. For now I plan to just watch and see and give her a bit of time. My highest temp we've reached in the new room was today, up to 86. Low of 74. RH high of 57, low of 45, a bit on the low side for veg.

Here is a pic of Sammy's twisted leaves.

Finally! Subbed! Let me back up now and see what excitement you have planned for us.

Magic, I'm still relatively new to growing so I'm curious - what causes twisting leaves? I ask because, first off, I have no idea why it would happen and secondly, my Buddha Magnum Auto in my first grow had leaves like that and she was a happy, healthy plant growing in new LOS. I just figured she wanted to dance. :laughtwo:

I enjoyed your intro. Don't be afraid to ramble in your own journal. Some of the best insights come from those rambles everyone keeps apologizing for. :battingeyelashes:

Finally! Subbed! Let me back up now and see what excitement you have planned for us.

:rofl::rofl: It has been a long time coming, I know! As to the twisting, I'm just not sure. I've read that it could be a ph issue, too close to the lights, high temps, too strong of a fan? She looks really good other than the twisting. I'll just keep up the wait and see approach. I'm sure this soil will give her what she needs as long as I take care of it.

Thanks so much for stopping by, SweetSue!!

Subbed here. Since SweetLeaf and SweetSue are here, I figure it takes a highly confused sorceror to balance things out :)

Perfect! We needed a sorcerer! Good to see you, Rado! I was just over at your place a little while ago. Thanks for helping to get all this SWICK stuff worked out for us! I'll be paying close attention to both you and SweetSue so I am ready when we move into a swick. I think it may work really well for me if I set it up correctly.

Then, let's you and I decide that some plants just like to dance. Sounds plausible to me. I know my Buddha gave off that party girl vibe her whole life. :laughtwo: Isn't it sweet how we think of them as children and then we cut them down? Cracks me up, but they do have personalities. You should hear Duggan trying to corral his three sativas. Hahaha! You'd think they could really talk among themselves.

Ahhh, I love this neighborhood of ours. I'm really glad to finally make a decent acquaintance Magic. It feels very comfortable here. Glad you'll have me. I warn you - I get long-winded. *sigh*

Talking about an understatement! My girl Magic finally let us inside her beautiful little world.

YOU KNOW I'M IN!!!

A couple of my girl scout cookies have twisted leaves, but it hasn't gotten worse, and they are still growing looking happy so I haven't worried too much about it. Just the GSC, none of the other strains have twisted at all. Weird.

Honestly, sometimes I don't know how I get through a day. My goal for this afternoon on 420 was to figure out the multi-quote function. Yeah, I know...but I'd never used it before. So, the house is quiet, I put on some music and loaded the bong. I began my search after a nice, healthy bong hit. I looked around a bit for my info but then my high kicked in and I got more and more distracted. Time passed...What did I do with this time? I made a damn mess is what I did. I got out records, cassettes, cd's, and continued to search for my information by way of reading journals that had nothing whatsoever to do with multi-quotes. And the music was good.

A good while later, I tried to snap my attention back to the task at hand. Alas, I had strayed far from my intended path. I took measure of each path and, finding the multi-quote path lacking, I continued to pick my way along my unintended path. I re-loaded the bong. Time passed. And the music was good.

I once again brought my attention back to what I wanted to get done. 'What're the odds?', I ask myself. At that very moment I know exactly what I have to do. I will open up my journal, scroll to the bottom of the page and just ASK. That brings us to almost present time. I pull up my journal and scroll past a post to the quick reply section. 'Let's see...what to say, what to say....', I think to myself. I still have a nice relaxing buzz going so I am careful about choosing my words. 'You want to make sense', and as I tell myself this I glance at the portion of RSOiler's signature that is still showing at the very top of my screen. It's in red, I've read it a dozen times, more even. "If you're not tacking, you're not healing." I'm getting close to starting the rso and I'm excited. I repeat it over and over. For a moment it becomes like a mantra. As it runs through my head I think to myself, 'I like that quote.' When I think the word 'quote' I glance over at the "reply with quote" link just to the right. And what's just to the right of that?? THE MULTI-QUOTE.

I mutter something like, 'You're f'ing kidding me.' I feel pretty dense and find it extremely funny at the same time. So, what do I do? I take a bong hit and write this. And the music is good.

How's that for long winded, Sue? I'm glad you are here!

Thank you, B A R! I am so happy to have you here! I am going to demonstrate my multi-quote knowledge now...Behold my brilliance.

Decided not to get too worked up over her. I will be posting about the soil mix soon. Probably tomorrow. Then I need to learn to take care of it.

Welcome aboard, RSOiler! I am pleased you are here! We're growing some good CBD's and making seeds to grow even more!

Great to be here MagicMediwana, looking forward to the day you turn into a "Oil Head". :thedoubletake:

The best strains are Sativa high in THC, Sativa high in CBD (day time oil) and a pure as possible Indica for night time dose, these are a good starter.

Nobody can find a "Oil Head" smiley.

I want to address the method and soil I am using, beginning with this grow. I am growing in a no-till Living Organic Soil. My HarleSin clone is in a cloth pot that I will use after this grow. The Harlequin is in a tall plastic pot and while I will reuse the soil, we will change out the pot to cloth on the next grow. I may press the pot into service again but it is not really right for no-till, (from my rudimentary knowledge of no-till).

This is what I think I know about the no-till method... Basically I will be cutting out the spent plant, and without disturbing the rest of the soil, I will drop in the new one, seedling, clone, what have you. The new plant will have benefit of the previous plants root system, which has set up an intricate nutritional network for itself. Newbie can use/follow those pathways and easily go grocery shopping because everything it needs has already been assembled. This should lead to a stronger, larger root system over a shorter period of time compared to regular potting methods. The soil should continue to improve over time as well, and that sounds pretty darn good to me.

The soil itself was mixed up by Sweetleef and generously shared with me. He used Clackamas Coot's recipe. I am not sure if he followed it to the letter but if there are differences, I am sure he can tell us. The base of the mix is peat moss, lave rock, and worm castings or compost. For Minerals, oyster shell flour, rock dust, and gypsum dust are added. Nutrients are added in the form of crustacean meal-crab and shrimp, kelp meal and neem cake. He mixed t all up, watered it when needed and let it 'cook' for a month. Everything was sourced locally to us with the exception of the neem cake. It is beautiful soil. It looks rich and smells earthy and sweet and good. Now I just need to learn to take care of it! I will start some organic corn to sprout today for some sprouted seed tea. I believe it is SweetSue that used some malted barley, blended it into a powder, top dressed with it and just watered it in. Doesn't get much easier than that!

Hope it is a glorious beginning to a magical week for everyone! :green_heart:
