First Time Auto, First Time DWC, Northern Lights

So tonight (it's 1 am, started after 10 pm) during a res change I decided to install my sight tube. Well, I f'd that up, down one bucket now!

This one leaked, maybe if I can get a bigger grommet I may be able to save it, if not then it's just a spare bucket to put the plant on while I change the water in the useful one.

So with the only other black bucket I have I decided to try again, luckily it didn't leak!

I marked the litres from 8 through 12 on the tube and the side of the bucket for easy reading.

I upped the nutrients to 4 teaspoons each of the trio and 3 teaspoons of calmag.

Ph 5.8 (first time getting it on the button!)
Ppm 913
EC 1938
17.5° c.

And being impatient I switched the timer to 12/12 to try and kick these into auto mode!

On with the show!

Mullins numbers over 2 days after the res change had me a bit concerned with a static water level.
Ph. 5.89 then 5.95
Ppm. 993 then 1024

So I removed 2 cups of nutrient water and replaced with plain water and ph'd to 5.76 and ppm of 971, hopefully tomorrow I'll see the ph go up a bit and the ppm drop a bit.

And she's starting to flower, there are tiny buds forming.

Ashburn is still showing preflowers only.

On with the auto/not auto show.

9th week.

Mullins ph went up to 5.90 in a day and the ppm went down to 930 so that change of 2 cups of nutrient water to plain water put it back on track, she's hungry and still growing at 27.5"

Ashburn is still growing too at 24".

Both plants have a bit of tip curl going on, I think it got too cold in the tent at 17° so I turned on the heater in the room at the lowest possible setting.
Both are still stretching, Ashburn at 24.5" and Mullins at 29.5".
Ashburn has a couple buds starting and Mullins has about 9 bud sites now and has alternate node sites in the upper part of the plant.

Ashburn.

If your buckets are on the floor the nutrients should stay cool and I think the plants will enjoy the warmth.
Yes Mullins bucket is on the floor, I hope that it stays cool. Ashburn is in a fabric pot and is elevated over a tote to catch the run off.

Crazy to see how different your NL auto looks compared to mine! Definitely going to give DWC a shot one day
I'm going to try my other 2 NL auto beans in dwc and hope they actually begin flowering at 3 or 4 weeks and harvest at 8-10 weeks, these ones have wonky genetics and should have been almost done or harvested by now. I'm hoping that they do finish with a proper harvest anyway.

My first 2 seeds went off without a hitch, last one I did began growing leaves and died because it never grew a root, not so find of autos after that

Ah ok, this is my first grow with auto's, I have the 2 beans left so I may as well, I'm certain I'll try a different breader the next time and hope they perform as advertised.

Cool. What body and lens do you use? I have a Canon D6 II with various lenses. My macro is a 150 mm f2.8, but I usually use my 24-105 f4 general purpose lens

It's just a clip on macro lens from the Zon for an $35. It doesn't work with the portrait setting but ok with the landscape setting, and it won't focus on a whole bud, but rather a special point of the bud, it's still good at getting a better look at the trichs.

Do you have a loupe Canuck?
30x joulers loupe taped to my phone helped me get these

Best advice I can give is to brace your hands while taking pics, my heartbeat was enough to mess up the photo capture sometimes
That's a really good point I found the same thing trying to use mine. I seriously considered getting a tripod for my phone for that exact reason.

Ashburn

I've been feeding her twice daily, she has only grown an inch in the last 7 days, she's now 27" tall.

Mullins

I've neglected her and have taken no readings nor have I adjusted her res in 7 days but she has stretched 5.5" during those days, she's now 37.5" tall.
She did drink 3 cups of water out of her res though and I've replaced that tonight until I Change out her res tomorrow.

I guess my neglect is due to my disappointment in these not being auto's, in hindsight I probably should have just culled the 2 and started over with the other 2 beans I have left from the pack, hopefully those 2 will grow like auto's. I'm too far along now to pull these so I'll let them go and see what happens, they look like they are both starting to stack buds so we'll see.
Anyone know what the actual flowering period is for feminized Northern Lights?
