First Grow - Indoor Now - Outside & Inside Later

Not getting the wife a Trim Bin so that she can trim in relative comfort would be like spousal abuse.
Show her some love and get her a Trim Bin brother. :circle-of-love:

My wife says to tell you she likes the way you think LOL

The sun was less than co operative today. Seems every time it decided to make an appearance I was otherwise occupied but I took pictures of the outdoor girls any way.

Lets go for a walk around the yard and visit the girls. We'll finish with Big Mamma in the garden.

Cherry Bomb 1

Cluster Bomb 1- This girl rivals Big Mamma for height but not girth

Next the Big Bomb Girls ranging in height from 6 to 8 feet and no longer doing a very good job of hiding in the raspberries

Cherry Bomb 2 and 3

No off to the garden where we will find miss Cluster Bomb 2 first

Next we have Cherry Bomb 4

And the best for last, Big Mamma and Little Sista the THC Girls. Big Mamma, thankfully, has slowed her upward growth. She now sits at 6'8" tall and just about as wide. I was quite concerned about her inch a day growth but she has slowed to an average of about 3" a week. She will still be much bigger at harvest than the breeder suggested (5-6 feet) but won't be the 10 to 12 feet I was concerned with when she was growing an inch a day LOL

I am guessing that if the weather here holds long enough for her buds to properly mature, I should easily get the 1.5Kg from her that Bomb Seeds claim ;)

Taking my chances here LOL That's why I was worried about Big Mamma's height. I'd try for even bigger plants if it was legal here.

As it is here, if you are discrete, not trying to run a big "grow op" and none of your neighbours complain, the cops tend to ignore you. On the odd chance that they do stumble onto your plants and you are not around, the most they are likely to do is to cut the plants down and leave a card that says "better luck next year".

My property is situated in such a way that, other than Big Mamma and her companions in the garden, my girls can't be seen from the road. Even the garden can only be seen from the road at distance of a few hundred yards so you would have to stop and be looking for plants through binoculars to spot Big Mamma.

I'm so friggin' jealous of you my friend!!

Something to think about.....
Once those large and lovely girls become loaded down with buds you're going to have one helluva time keeping them from falling over unless they are staked and tied really well. During a thunderstorm the buds will get extra heavy with the added weight of the rain water. Then comes the wind which along with rain soaked buds will create the perfect combination to topple and break branches and sometimes even cause the whole plant to topple over.
This (along with aerial surveillance by the po-po) is what lead me to begin topping my outdoor plants and trying to keep them lower to the ground back when I kept a few outdoors.

But damn those girls sure are lovely!!!

Thank you UncleC

I am itching to see what they will look like in full bloom. And yes seeing how heavy the buds are on my indoor girls, I have seriously wondered about how I am going to support them LOL

As for the law enforcement, I spent a few years in the forestry industry and know how demanding and expensive aerial surveying is. One of the reasons that any one county is only surveyed once every 10 years. Also knowing many RCMP officers over the years, I know that in this province, aerial surveys for weed tend to be cursive at best and mainly target woodland areas where its been found before. Even then they aren't actually looking for the plants so much as newer well beaten or cut trails and small clearings that weren't there before.

When they find these indicators, then they do more thorough surveys and ground searches. Generally speaking, a few plants in someone's yard are rarely noticed or targeted ;)

The true give away for my girls would/will be if the girls and the surrounding vegetation start contrasting in color too much before I can harvest them LOL fingers crossed for a late fall LOL

Things that concern me more than my girls being seen are ordering things across borders LOL My wife wants me to order a couple of those Trim Bins later this week or the next but I can't find any here on this side of the border which means I will have to order them out of the US...THAT concerns me LOL

A little trick that I stumbbled upon back in the day is to top them once they are just a tad below knee high then take each of the 2 branches that emerge and direct them horizontally along the ground. About 4' from the trunk I'd then take the branch and stake it to the ground then mound some dirt over the area where the stake was placed. This would cause the branch to root at this location. Repeat again at 8' from the trunk and so on. Doing this with each of the 2 main branches resulted in something that resembled a hedge row.
The main benefit for you in doing something like this would be the reduced likelihood of broken branches during bloom or loss of the plant due to it being uprooted. It also allows for ease of access to all of the plant w/o the use of a ladder.

Mine was delivered in a plain cardboard box with no indication as to what was inside.

That sounds like a great idea for outdoor growing UncleC. I would love to be able to grow freely but that something that's not likely to happen here anytime soon. It would be fun to see just how big a plant a fella could grow LOL

My intent for my insdie grow had been to mainline my girls but with my step-daughter's boyfriend requesting clones, I let the girls get ahead of me LOL still pleased with how they did, just wasn't what I had planned. What I would up with was somewhere between mainlining and scrog just without the net LOL Next go round I am going to do a proper mainlining with 4 more plants and see how it turns out. If I like the results, I will likely try it on some outdoor girls next season. Much easier to manage indoors and better stealth outdoors ;)

I still plan to order the Trim Bins, I just hope they don't get scrutinized by customs. They in themselves aren't illegal here but its a dead give-away that you are likely growing LOL

For indoors, SOG with the plants being topped and trained to maintain a wide and low profile canopy is my preference. I have no desire to mess around with scrog nets either. The scrog method is sound as a pound but I like to have the ability to move my girls around as I please and not have them locked in place.
:blunt:

I agree UncleC, I like the flexibility of being able to pull my girls out under regular light, much easier to see true colors and see whats going on with them.

My plan for the next go round is to build 4-18" square trays that I can fill with perlite to set my girls on. That way I can bottom feed and minimize my battle with those damn fungus gnats. I also plan to have an adjustable (height) 14" square rack that I can support the tops with.

Fungus gnats are relatively easy to deal with. Any of the following or a combination of any or all will work.
Add a 1/4" layer of neem cake meal to the top of the soil.
Add a 1/4" layer of diatomaceous earth to the top of the soil.
Apply neem oil spray to your soil once per week.
Add neem oil to your water while watering (drench). Do this about once every 2 to 3 weeks or until they disappear.

I don't have experience with the bottom feed method but it seems to be a perfect recipe for fungus and/or bacteria problems if not kept very clean or treated some type of way. In addition, because of the lung damage concerns with perlite dust I try to use it as little as possible and when I do I make sure to use a mask when handling it.
I guess thats my 2 cents based on lots of inexperience. LOL!
SweetSue and others are using bottom feed and seem to like it.

I'm really digging the Trompf Blumats. Those things are one of the best investments that I've made in a long while.

I really like your Blumat setup, but for my relatively small grow area, and because I have the time atm to tend the girls daily, it really doesn't make sense for me.

That being said, if I get started on a nursery/greenhouse in the spring, Blumats are definitely an investment I will be looking into in the spring :)

I suggest that you try a few different watering methods until you find the one or ones that work best for you. Like I've said many times before, there is no one size fits all solution for all since everyone's needs and situation are different.

For my situation I just need to NOT let them die of thirst again..... Ouch!! LOL!
