First Grow In Over 20 Years! Northern Lights Under 600W LED

I'm not sure what you mean by "recovered." You don't calculate based on how well you squeeze the oil out of the mash. You calc based on the total amount of oil you start with. Any oil left in the mash contains the same amount of mg/ml as the stuff you squeezed out.

That said, 5.05 is damn close to 4.98! :thumb:

When I said recovered I should have said theoretically recoverable because I did base my calculations on how much oil I started with and I think the only reason they weren’t exact was because I didn’t use the exact conversion going from ounces to mL I think. But anyway I’m glad we agree so looks like I know how to figure it out in case you’re never around or get sick of calculating for me, LOL. Thanks.

I did the final harvest on my first crop. So far I’ve gotten about 6.9 ounces from my first two partial harvests so I assume with this last bit I should be in the 9 to 10 ounce range which to me is fantastic for a first run with all the problems I had.

I made some more oil using half an ounce of Bud and 6 ounces of olive oil but even using my super sized C-clamp I still only got about 4 ½ ounces back so I lost 25%. I thought squeezing it really well like this I would get most back but I think I am going to try and boil the leftover Bud in cheesecloth in water next time and try to separate out the last of the oil like I read to do.

I took a cutting of my Cannatonic today and I started one seed of White Widow so from now on I will have two plants budding and two plants flowering for a perpetual garden. Trying to get my strains figured out and overcompensating for seeds that didn’t take I keep growing too many plants but after this generation that is budding is done I should be within the legal limit which I would much rather be under. But just by vegging longer I really think I can grow just as much with just four plants.

Not too shabby at all for your first grow :thedoubletake:.

Great idea on the squeezing with the C-clamp. Those 2x4s are very high now!

And as long as you can fit your flowering plant in your grow space, longer veg = bigger harvest.

Thanks a lot Shed; I am pretty happy with my first grow. :high-five:

I was hoping the C-clamps would work a little better; I still lost 1 ½ ounces of olive oil. I read that people boil the leftover bud in water in cheesecloth and collect the oil that floats to the top so I am going to try that after I squeeze it next time.

That is what I was hoping. I saw a video of some guy who was restricted by law to four plants also and he turned them into small trees before budding them so with lots of training I am hoping to do the same. Fun hobby. Thanks for stopping by. :thumb:

Wow Homer!!!
You get straight A in First time grower

:high-five::yahoo::slide::yahoo::high-five:

Thank you, Birdie. That is so kind of you but like I keep saying it is all the great help that kept me on the right track. So thank you!! :high-five: :ciao:

Nice harvest Homer. Those 2x4's aren't pressure treated right? ;)

Thanks Sauga; I am pretty happy with my first harvest and thanks a lot for all the help; you really saved my bacon a few times.

I did make sure I got the non-pressure-treated wood but good thinking because I don’t think a lot of people know how bad the old type of pressure treating chemicals are. I need to find a better system to get the last of the oil out of my bud.

lol, I was pretty sure you knew. The board on the left looked a little greenie, but I'm a little color blind so that doesn't help.

Better safe than sorry. Glad you spoke up. :high-five:

First the big news; I have the total for my first crop and it comes in at 9.7 ounces! I figured when I started if I got 10 ounces it would be a raving success so I am pretty happy. Since that is about 275 g and I am using a 600 W equivalent LED light system I figure I am at about half a gram per watt so not bad but lots of room for improvement.

Today I finally did the big move taking my plants from upstairs to their new home in the unfinished end of my basement. I have a lot more room down here plus I don’t have to worry about making a mess and I have a big laundry sink close by but most importantly I think it will be easier to keep my temps and humidity dialled in.

Because I am going to have a continuous grow always vegging and budding I had to build a barrier to separate the two areas. I built a little room using two by fours and panda plastic. The plastic was about $30 and so was the wood so I got my new grow room for about $60 and about four hours work. So that is my veg area.

So the budding area is inside the reflectors and the budding area is in the light-tight room.

This is my next generation inside the budding room. My Cannatonic cutting looks happy and healthy and my White widow seed came up yesterday...yay!!

Nice little project Homer! Looks terrific and in a much better spot than upstairs. And :welldone: on that harvest!

Thank you, Shed. I appreciate you dropping by and having a look at my project. And yes it was a nice little project which I enjoyed and am really happy with because having them down here just makes sense. A big reason I wanted them upstairs is because I actually spend most of my time downstairs and I didn't want the smell near me but I find they aren't that bad and the smell is pleasant. So no reason left not to move them.

Sounds ideal! I love the smell of growing cannabis so it's nice to have them in the house :).

Yes, it seems to have worked out quite nicely. :thumb: :ciao::headbanger:

Woop Woop! Awesome harvest Homer. I can't tell you how thrilled I am to have a local dispensary now. Thank you so much. :green_heart:

You did a fantastic job down there, but really I was hoping to see a jack hammer. Great day's work!

Me, I cooked dinner and sat in my tent. Also a great day's work.

Looks like I missed the Northern Lights, oh well, I'll catch the show in my tent. Congrats on your harvest, nice lookin, chunky buds!

I grew some WW love it, still got some too. One of my favorites, then again every crop is a new favorite...
