I love me some GC, she's so stinky tho!!

So I've decided to go straight to soil from water. I put them sideways about 1/4 - 1/2 inch into soil. Then covered and light water. Can someone tell me how far my LED light needs to be from the pots during germinating.

Hi. I'm new to this. Can't see the dates for your post on my iPad. Why would you use light for germinating? I put my seeds between a wet paper towel inside a plastic box with the lid loose on top. Stuck it in a closet for a few days. They all sprouted. How else would you do it?

That way works...

I was asking how far my lights needed to be bc I didn't know..... Not bc I was using them during germination..... This is my first grow and I didn't know how far my lights needed to be away....

A CFL works well for nursing seedlings before introducing them to the LED. I find I get much quicker development when I use cfl the first week, then start with my led (even just the 300) really really high ... like 24 inches....and bring it down an inch a day.

Just what works for me... seedlings can be finicky... and I also think this is why cfl growers sometimes get ahead of themselves. They see they can grow a plant from seed with just a low watt cfl and get excited. Don't get me wrong, there are great cfl only growers... but they are ones that have created optimal environments and accounted for the fact their plant won't stay a seedling forever.

Sorry I got off topic there... you also save energy only giving the seedling the amount of light they need in those early stage too...

Reference your flushing with distilled water.

"Distilled water is often exposed to carbon dioxide in the air at some point during the distilling process. Pure water is 7.0 and completely neutral, but distilled water sources can get as low as 5.5 on the pH scale." - from google

I'm half way into my first grow and I wish I had come across this forum earlier. Mine have just started to flower. Tomorrow the girls are getting haircuts. The only thing I think I've gotten right is to PH my water. I figure anything from 6.2 to 6.7 is good enough. I've not done the soil, but I assume it should be similar to the water. ??

Correct. Distilled water is no good. RO water is best. You can use tap water too, just let the tap water air out for 24-48 hours to let any chlorine evaporate. I only test the water or runoff. I do not test the soil itself so I couldn't tell you what it should be. This forum is full of knowledgeable kind folks Larry. I'm pulling quarter pound per plant on my very first grow on autos from help from all the fine folks on here. Do you have a grow journal? You should start one. That's what I did.

OK, first off your info on Distilled water is incorrect. I have been using it for years and years and every time i test it it's very close to 7, neutral. How can you say it's no good . Please don't try and pass this incorrect info here! Don't be ridiculous....just look at all my journals and harvests....really. How can you say distilled water is NO good ,...you can't be serious. I always choose distilled over RO ...at the same water store. both are very good to use. Oh and BTW letting tap water sit out for 24-48 hrs will NOT get rid of all the nasties in it like chloramine....did ya think of that! Tap water is a very BIG NO NO around here . We don't use it in our HB soil cuz of it killing off the microbial population. Shall i get someone with a degree(Doc Bud)to chime in or what! Ive had a long hard day and i'm not going to sit back while a newbie around here tries to tell everyone this crap! It's bad info....distilled water along with RO is the best , period...there is NO room for discussion. I've been doing this close to 30 years and someone tells me distilled is NO GOOd....just pisses me off. There i vented. Got any more to say about this , go to another forum , we don't need or want incorrect info spread here,...thank you!

Idk what info you think I said about distilled water to get your panties in a bunch, but you need to chill. I've been using tap water idk anything bout distilled. I know what I'm doing is working.

You haven't been following this very closely have you Duggan? This guy spent a great deal of time and effort documenting his first grow. And you told him to go away? Things seemed to have come unstuck when he use distilled water and didn't test it. The moral of the story is test your water. We rely on people with "30 years of experience" to give us a steer. You should think before you press enter. Your attitude sucks.

I assume that welcome emoji at the bottom of your post is meant ironically.
