First CFL Grow Using 30 Watt CFLs

Hey DP friends, so I placed an order with herbies yesterday, picked up a whole whack of seeds, 17 in total, and I'm told I will be receiving 16 free seeds, this should keep me busy for a couple years after checking a bunch of other sites feel like I got a great deal. I spent 132 pounds, which works out to around $215 Canadian

Can't wait to get them, ordering another 400 watt for new grow space, I'm thinking I might get a light track, does anybody have experience with these? The ones that move automatically over your plants? I feel like having one of these would almost replicate the sun perfectly (rising and setting) and give more light overall to the plants....

Just about the light track you mentioned.. Well i made a DIY trck, the hood hangs via small chains to a rail above and the light gets moved every 4 hrs, so 3 times a day during flower. It does help FOR SURE.. You can lower it or raise it to get angles of light to different areas..
Good idea.. Do you know the metal curtain rods they have in hospitals?? So they can pull the curtain around your bed area, well them tracks are awsum!! Just use the plastic runners it comes with and hook em up, DONT PUT EXCESSIVELY HEAVY THINGS ON THEM THO! Lights will be fine on them I scored mine from the rubbish tip!! Cut it to size - JOBS DONE!!

thanks everyone, i hear what your saying with the more you earn the more you spend, some people go crazy and buy cars they cant afford, then if they lose the job their screwed, im a bit more cautious than that, i only buy what i need to buy, but i can treat myself now and then and get myself some new grow room toys, cant wait can get some decent strains now,
i went to jaguar today to be shown around and find out what im doing and its very easy work, i cant believe they pay that much when the work is that easy, ive done harder jobs for minimum wage, just shows when you get in a company like jaguar they dont mind paying the wages, so ill be treating myself to some new grow room toys and some nice seeds instead of going for the cheapest i can get, top of the list is the big bang auto, auto pounder, jack flash, might even treat myself to a new light and a decent filter to stop the smell.

last night was curtains for the afghan skunk 2ltr dwc hempie, i waited as long as i could and got as much amber trichs as i could, so it was about 20%amber when i harvested it, im so glad i waited the extra week before harvest, the buds are huge biggest buds ive had so far, they are solid as well, i even had to check for seeds, the calyx's was that swollen i thought i might of got pollen on it by mistake, but i checked and no seeds anywhere, cant wait to sample it once its dry, i took pics before harvest and after so ill put them up when im over my moms tomorrow, im letting the other hempie go longer as it is seed set so need to make sure the seeds are done before i harvest it.
im amazed how big and solid the buds are, i will try and auto in the dwc hempie and see what happens, ill be giving the dwc scrog a go very soon, i just got the other hempie to harvest, the 2 autos that im disapointed with, i think the problem is with the compost i use, i think i need to make a decent batch of compost if im going to continue to grow in soil, but ill see how i get on with the dwc scrog, now ive got this job i can buy everything i need for the dwc setup when i get paid, then i can give it a proper go and see where i go from their, the only other plants ive got left now is the 2 x afgan skunk clones, these are 1ft high and ready to flip to flower, they are under glr at the moment,
if you remember i was giving one of these clones tank water and the other tap water, now i mixed bpn with the tank water and had no problems, now their is a clear difference between the 2 clones, the tank water fed plant is a lot bigger and has longer side branches, so this fish tank water is boosting them enough to make it noticable

the difference between the afgan skunk clones and its mother the dwc 2ltr hempie is shocking, the mother plant had massive growth and grew very quick, but the clones taken from the hempie and rooted and put in soil are growing a lot slower, so i either have a problem with the compost or dwc is just so much better for these plants, i am getting these plants out the way so i can start the dwc scrog, so ill be planting seeds for the scrog in the next week or 2,

so i got the reserva privada sour kush 2ltr dwc hempie to harvest and collect seeds from some of the buds, then i got 2 x afgan skunk to flower off and also a kush clone to flower as well, these 3 in veg will be flipped to flower in a day or 2, then when im half way through flowering ill start setting the scrog up and planting some seeds, ill still be doing dwc hempies along side the scrog

growing the dwc hempie wont stop me doing my scrog as i have room for the hempies in front of the scrog so ill still be doing these, i planted a few seeds for the dwc hempies today,
the next round of hempies will be 1 or more of these, 1 x sleestack cross skunk regular seed, 2 x big bud#2 regular, i got a few of these and liked the way it grew but not had a female yet to flower so hoping for one from one of them and 1 x royal queen fruity spirit femenised, these are the only seeds im planting as i want to get this scrog set up.

the test i started with the seedism seeds is doing nothing, neither of the seeds have broken out the soil yet and its been around 1 week, not sure whats going on with them, i didnt even plant them deep so they should of sprouted by now, ill give them another week and see what happens, it just seems strange that neither of them have sprouted,

try switching your soil to a soil with no nutes...i recomend Sunshine Mix #4...real light ...good drainage...full of perlite...and best of all...no slow release fert...

the problem is keeping up with all these journals, i keep adding new ones to my list and once i get started reading them i end up with loads and loads of journals to catch up with, but i enjoy passing on what ive learned and im always picking things up along the way so its all good,

That's how I feel as well. Occasionally I will go search for the newbie journal that has nearly no responses. But after a while everyone is on board and pages fill up so quickly. Next thing I know OMM is telling stories, JTG posts a page all by himself, FC is stoned and rambling about stuff.... it gets time consuming for sure. But I love it all and love all my new 420 friends!

To keep up with the journals, I don't always post replies, but I'll click 'like' to let the original poster know that I stopped by for a read. I have about 8 journals that I follow religiously, and yea it's tough sometimes. I try to visit everyone who comes by my journal, but it's hard to keep on top of what everyone is doing. Especially once you get a job and can't surf 420 mag for hours a day lol

I use sunshine mix #1, what's the difference between 4 and 1? I had good results with #1. Oh and I was in the states today and noticed there's a hydro shop right off the bridge!! I saw a big billboard advertising fox farm products, meant to stop in before I came back to Canada but I forgot, I'm super pumped to check this place out. Will probly buy my next soil there, maybe my light tracks, I could easily spend thousands of dollars in a good hydro shop, hardest part is, not feeling guilty afterwards

i dont think their is any slow release nutes in my compost, most of it i buy cheap at around £1 per bag so its nothing special, but some of its john innes and the other is peat or something like that, no perlite in it but it does drain fast, how ever i emptied my grow room today and mixed up some bpn magic and im trying something i spoke to corey about and im not having problems yet, but i took all the plants out and i used to pour water onto the top of the soil and let it soak in, but i found it was not soaking in it was just running through channels in the compost and out the bottom, so i got a spray bottle and i spray the top of the soil now so its all soaked in, but today when i sprayed it i scraped back the top inch and under the top inch it was dry, its as if the water is not soaking into the soil but sort of stopping in the top layers, so i poked some holes down into the soil and poured more water in making sure it was all moist.

so clearly i have some problems, this is possibly why my soil grown plants dont do so well, now im not even sure what to do to fix this, im thinking a mix of compost and perlite might be what i need, so once these plants are out the way and im setting up the scrog ill get some perlite and compost and mix my own batch for my next soil grow.

ive flipped the hps to flower now, all my plants are now under 12-12 so i can get them out the way and give the dwc scrog a try, the plants ive been vegging are about 1ft high, so these are now going to flower and wont be to long before i give a scrog a try, plus these plants have been vegged under glr so they should start to flower quickly, so at least now im not taking plants out the grow room and putting them somewhere dark to flower as the hps was set to glr schedule,

im waiting to harvest this reseva privada sour kush, its ready and all the trichs are cloudy with a few amber, but its making some seeds, i did check one of the seed pods to make sure their is seeds inside and their are, but the pod i checked was small and the seed was white, so clearly that seed was not ready, now im not sure how i can check without damaging the seeds, if their ready then they wont be damaged but if their not and i open the pod and its not ready then that seed is no good to me, some of the pods are starting to split open so i think the seeds in these pods are nearly ready, but my problem is that the plant is not all seed set, just 3 big bud sites are pollenated so the rest of the plant is not pollenated, so do i harvest the part of the plant thats ready with no seeds or is it best to wait till the seeds are ready and harvest it at the same time.

my ak47 cross uk cherry cheese is in flower now as well and ive got a male of the same strain as i want more seeds of this strain, so i clipped all the branches off the male and left just the top 2 sets of branches so they can give me some pollen, then ill be getting some more seeds of this strain as its a good strain to have, i may even put a bit of pollen on 1 of the autos as well, but im not sure if the seeds it makes will still be auto.

my thinking is this, the auto is clearly an auto, and if i cross it with a none auto then this should weaken the auto side of the strain, so the seeds should still be auto but a weaker auto strain, so would this make it grow longer like a none auto plant and still have the auto trait, i know it takes a lot of back crossing to get a new strain, but would the resulting seeds be auto or not

Wow. You have some serious questions. Ill have to play voyeur with these. I hope you get some good answers. Your journal has interested me with regard to pollinating. Glad the whole grow is going ok overall.
