Fire Safety: How do you prevent a disaster?

Just bought a rechargeable Amerex 20-lb'r A,B,C fire extinguisher. All I could afford at present. I plan to add two more 20 lb'rs when I can afford it. One for each tent. Also, I added a fire alarms to the inside of the flowering tent recently. I will add them to the other tents soon. Better safe than sorry.

That's a big smile to start my day.
I'm so happy your taking things seriously.

Wow I am way behind on this thread, will catch up soon.

Here’s one for your consideration…… using equipment in a manner that it wasn’t designed for, case in point hanging an oscillating tower fan upside down. Tower fan question
Hey brother how are you this morning.
That's a great point.
I'm sure there is other equipment we use for unintended purposes.
Might be an innocent change to us but could have unintended consequences.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention my friend.

Stay safe
Bill

Wow @Bill284 , I'm just seeing this and am glad everyone's safe, that's the most important thing.
Good morning @meffa Hope you are well my friend.
We are all safe thank you.
It can happen really quick so be prepared.
I wouldn't want it happening to you, or anyone else.

Stay safe
Bill

Just curious, what caused the fire? Did you get to the root-cause?
Official weegrow light blew the fek up caught the house on fire.
It was bran new, on as low as it could go. ( sponsored light )
I was in the room beside it and bang all hell broke loose.
If I hadn't been right there we would have lost everything.
Or if I was in bed.
Read all the suggestions and be safe my friend @PlanetJ .
I wouldn't want this happening to anyone else.

Stay safe

I have the recommended detectors installed and not a lot of flammables here anyway. I have my water point in the next room, and a breaker dedicated to the power to it. So if anything trips, all the rooms go down immediately, and its down to making sure no fires spread. I run 3d printers in the same room .. need to have a bit of safety build in then :)

Glad you were there when it happened! Could have been a lot worse from the looks of that :o

Do everything at your disposal to be protected.
It happens so fast the only thing that saved me were the two fire extinguishers.
Preparation is key.

Stay safe my friend.

Hey @Chrisx510 hope your having a good day my friend.
Thank you so much for your kind words.
This is the thread with some great info we all put together.
And some heartbreaking pics. I still can't look them.
Please do as much as you can to keep safe.
Any questions you know my door is always open for you.

Stay safe

THAT WAS MY WORST FEARS RIGHT THERE YOU JUST POSTED ! back in 91 I went to work wondering if I see cops to bust me or a fire , back then they didn't talk about humidity or anything like that , all they talked about what type of light & the methods of growing so i used only a Hid light it grew wonderfully but too much of stress especially once your house is practically paid off then have a fire ? no spank you ( ͡° ͡°)
I showed my wife that owned a nursery in 1 house on this property ,never needed to tell the ins. co she had a fire & was covered , unless it's not legal in your state or didn't have a medical card, but still risky, but with LEDs that run cooler & less heat which will use less amps & create heat in your wires, reading about breakers running weak & won't flip when it should, etc.MH & HPS are the culprit for fires, this is all news to me ,I'm sorry that you have gone through that, I done some reading concerning to this , this is what I came up with concerning growing medicinal marijuana

In general, homeowners insurance will cover damage to your home unless the policyholder caused it intentionally, said Fabio Faschi, property and casualty team lead for Policygenius.

"If you purposely commit arson and set your house on fire while it has a bunch of marijuana in it, it's not going to be covered," Faschi said. "But if you accidentally drop a match and set your house on fire, it's still going to be covered."

LEDs are the best way to grow for the "everyday Rasta". LEDs offer lower wattage individual lamps that can be easily installed on a dedicated 15A/120v circuit. Professionals and commercial growers get certain benefit from HID/HPS, still, even in these days of high utility costs (higher yields and potency - supposedly). In either case, home-grower or professional, special attentions should be paid to fire-safety. Always good to study national/local electrical safety and wiring code to understand and implement "best practices". Plus having a quality "big-ass" rechargeable fire extinguisher with easy access to the grow is also a "must".

Good Afternoon @sshortguy1 hope you are well my friend.
Even though the insurance company did step in it still was a nightmare.
They still haven't fixed the house. 6 months down the road, yeiks.

Totally depends where you live.

I have my grow license.
I called my insurance to go through everything and to ask how it would effect the insurance.
They said as long as everything is legit- from seed to end. At that point they began listing how much they would reimburse me, per plant. And said my insurance doesn't change cause of my license.

Edit- that being said, their insurance companies- it's always a fight for a large claim

1 of the reasons i try to keep the electrical currents to a minimum, I'm glad they covered it but unfortunately about the guy I was reading about paid out a 160 grand for their house after the fire finding out that he was growing they sued to get the money back, HIDs was my worst concern to anything else, ever felt the bulb next to your hand? trust me it's been 30 years ago & still feel the heat you, thanks for the response, you stay safe & be careful, that just burns me when I have to see someone go through that , I'm very sorry you had to go through that, worst fears for anyone

Nothing is foolproof. I like that people are using wi-fi and internet connections with cameras to monitor their grows. That simple measure at least allows one some "peace-o-mind" when not inside the grow room.

Wish it was legal to grow in my jurisdiction. :lot-o-toke:
