Feral's Journal Of Insanity & Some Growing

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Grizz, I tried them denture tablets and man they work a treat, rinsed it out then filled with hot water, dropped a steradent in and waited about 5 mins, gave it about 2 strokes with the bottle brush  rinsed it back out and it was sparkling clean :)

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Defo a PH pen mate, most used tool especially in hydro :thumb: Yeah not too sure about the biobizz nutes, i dont see any reason why they wouldnt work but probably not the ideal nutes for a DWC, the more organic ingredients usually means changing the res out more frequently and ph fluctuations, I have some BioCanna here left over ive been meaning to give a try in a DWC but just have not got around to it
Just a cheapy PH and PPM pen will work fine for me brother. I have looked into it a while ago so might try DWC for the next grow or stick to the coco since it can give good results either way. I would like to see that nutes and how it works. Might try looking into some different nutes

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Just a cheapie is good enough :) I used one of those cheap yellow fleabay ones for about a year before i got my bluelab, just need to be careful not to drop it in the nute solution or it will stop working  found that out the hard way lol. So far for nutes i have tried Advanced Nutrients, General Hydroponics, Dutch Master Gold and Cheap hydro shop brands, AN was good but way overpriced considering does no better than GH, DM Gold works well but nothing was overall "impressive" like AN or GH, Didnt really give the cheap nutes a good run but seemed to work ok at a low rate, imo GH seems the best value for money and produces the best results :thumb:

Think these ones should be fine and will get the calibration juice also. So bad I need to order it from a place that is about 600km away because the local one doesn't have cheap ones.

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Will make sure to pick them up soon, or well delivered soon.should help me without making me guess every time a problem comes up

I'm having them
Issues aswell I have same yellow one and now it broke just gonna buy a decent one such as blue lab or essentials ph they are such life savers I feel like I'm blind feeding with out one as I roughly know how much ph down to put in but you never no lol

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Just quick input on good inexpensive ph pens. Ohaus makes a model called the st10 and one called the st20. Only difference is the 10 can't be calibrated and the 20 can. I have the 10 and have been using it for 2 years now and everytime i check it with the solutions, its spot on. Not too shabby for a $30ish dollar pen. Food for thought.

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Definitely worth the extra dollars if you can pick up a better quality pen but the yellow ones get you by, Ive been using my bluelab and truncheon wand for about a year now and worth every penny i spent :thumb: most used tools in the garden :)

LoL it is true man, I would go for the cheapy now since I could buy about 5 for the price of the expensive ones and that is pretty redicilous in my opinionmy CFL grow had such problems I just winged it like KFC

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

As long as you have a way to check PH its all good  i just know i have dropped my bluelab in my reservoirs so many times its paid for itself being waterproof  handy having a backlit lcd screen too when checking inside dark reservoirs :)

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Man its so quiet, so quiet you could hear a tiny moth fart...

I'm betting its quieter than my buckets. :thumb: I have a grommet in the top of my side tube and put the 1/4" airline into it. The air is pumped directly into the bottom of the bucket. When I need to check the water level, I just pull the air hose out for a moment.(mine are sharpied @ 2, 3, and 4 gallons) Added plus I don't have airstones to clean. Down side, it's loud.

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Speaking of pH pens, it's worth the cost of AN for me to ditch them forever. Haven't checked pH in over a year. Also don't run AN near as heavy as they recommend, and I buy in gallons, so I save there too. Cost divided by ease and laziness makes me a happy lazy grower......fwiw :)

I use AN too but i still ph my add back water, so i keep one around. I haven't checked ph in forever and then my last grow started to shit out in the middle of flower. My ph had bottomed out at like 4.1. Don't care how chelated these nutes are... 4.1 and my plants were not uptaking large quantities of the goodies they needed. Still produced fairly well but i really hurt it by letting that happen. It has made me weary of the nutes now and I'll be checking the next few weeks to see if it was just a fluke.
Feral. Things look really great over here, brother. That plant looks like it has winner written on it, to me.
I have been following along but haven't had much time to comment. Sorry bro.

Gday RM, welcome dude :thumb: Oh yeah its a nice quiet system in the tent, only noisy part is from the pump to the manifold  actually fixed one of them today by replacing the plastic manifold with a steel version with taps so i can turn off individual airlines as i need, probably dropped a good 10db at the same time :) I tried running a few of my buckets without the airstones but found because i run so many i was having pressure drops and bubbling almost ceased to exist  Currently running 10 airstones between veg and early veg, another 8 in flower
Great idea with the markings on diff levels, didnt think of that, im used to the levels now though and pretty much guess spot on each time ;)

Each time i switch my PH pen on i save my money on AN nutes  Nah but seriously its a great product and dont have to do much at all to get awesome results, if it wasnt for the price i would use it all the time, not saying it has to be cheap but not outrageous  When i was running the Connoisseur nutes i had them at about 1/2 strength and it was nuts.
GH for me though i find way better results in veg and building the plant up ready for flower, in flower everything thrives just like AN, if not better and at a fraction of the price, takes me about 10 mins to check PH on all of my girls and i know exactly whats going on in there :) tbh i rarely check PH besides when changing out reservoirs, if i keep topping them up with water through the week the PH stays nice and solid, no fluctuations :thumb: Still use a bit of Bud Ignitor and Bud Candy here and there though :)

Thanks Lazarus and welcome mate :thumb: I never really checked the PH on AN till i started having issues too, their PH perfect tech aint too perfect if not mixed to their specs, even then will not last long before fluctuations begin, ended up PH'ing my AN mixes from then on out and had some amazing results. Just made me think to myself, no matter of any claims of any nute company i will always check PH, im growing for me not them, if i make a mistake it hurts me not them, 2 mins to check ph and problem averted :)
Thanks for the kind words about my girl :) she really is a stunner :circle-of-love:
