Photos of the Diesel looking all good my friend. Those gaint colas are something to behold, LoL I think I would just drool all over it. Don't worry about the moaning too much, I am young and still get time to b@tch and moan about it being too hotsomebody has to!

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Thanks Pat :) She sure is gorgeous, foxtailing to hell though  went and had a look at the genetics again and a few pics, seems to be quite normal in Red Diesel ;)

Been changing everything around in veg today, cleaned out the old leaves and crap that have fallen off plants over time, got rid of the flood table so now have heaps more space for the girls :) I will be adding 24k gold to the new bucket tonight :thumb:

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Right so i have seen this covered before but i dont think i have shown how i setup my DWC's, i needed to setup a bucket today for veg so i took pics along the way :thumb:

First up, everything you need, cheap and easy ;) Works out under $20au a DWC if you have all the tools and air pump :thumb:

Tools:
Drill
Step Drill bit
Knife
Permanent Marker
Joint

Materials:
You will need a decent air pump if looking at any type of DWC setup, i recommend an electromagnetic pump over a fish pump any day, will cost about $50 or so but will run about 6 buckets.
A bucket, cost me about $6.50 from the hardware
Netpot lid ($7.50 hydro shop) or bucket lid with a hole cut for a netpot (6" netpots are the go)
Air stone ($3.50 hydro shop)
Air tube long enough to reach your pump (any 4-6mm tube works, im using irrigation line on this one)
19mm clear tube ($4 at the hardware for 1m from memory, probably cheaper)
19mm grommet and elbow (cheap as chips wherever)

Screenshot_1782.png

Now my step drill bit is bigger then the hole i want to make, i use a bit of electrical tape to mask it up to the size i want, when drilling i know exactly how far to go, take it nice and easy as these bits are very quick ;)

Screenshot_1783.png

I mask up to 22mm, gives the grommet about 1.5mm either side of the elbow but still nice and tight.

Screenshot_1784.png

Drill the hole in the bottom of your res, could have gone a bit lower on this one but will do the job nicely

Screenshot_1785.png

pop in your grommet

Screenshot_1786.png

now connect the 19mm elbow into the clear tube and then push the other side of the elbow into the grommet as far as it goes

Screenshot_1787.png

Screenshot_1788.png

Notice the clear tube is too long on the side, i now take my knife and cut it so it overhangs the lip on the bucket about a cm as so

Screenshot_1789.png

Screenshot_1790.png

Now i make 2 cuts down the clear tube, just below the lip, then i slot it up under the lip which holds the tube steady.

Screenshot_1791.png

Screenshot_1792.png

Connect up the air stone to the air tube and feed it from inside the bucket and up through the 19mm clear tube

Screenshot_1793.png

Screenshot_1794.png

Should end up with something like this which keeps the airstone right at the base of the res at all times and stops any roots from tangling around the airline etc :thumb:

Screenshot_1795.png

Its pretty much done now but a couple more things, sit your netpot lid on the bucket and use a measuring jug to fill until just touching the base of the netpot (a little over or under is fine), mine works out right around 15L.

Screenshot_1796.png

now i go back to the clear tube and can see where the level is up to, take the permanent marker and draw a line, now you dont have to measure every time you fill the damn thing

Screenshot_1797.png

Screenshot_1798.png

And thats it, plug the air line into your air pump, mix up your nutes, drop a plant in and you are good to go :)

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Thanks mate :) if it helps one person then it wasnt a waste of time

I believe it will. You make it so one only has to follow the pictures.
You clearly give and document the steps.
If your goal is to help, you are well on your way.

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

That makes it the perfect time to make some noise.

Smoke break :passitleft:

I transplanted 24K Gold from soil to hydro last night, here is the process i took.

Screenshot_1802.png

Started out with about a liter of water in a bucket

Screenshot_1801.png

Remove the pot, i put my hand over the soil with the stem between my fingers like so, turn it upside down, give it a squeeze around the pot and it should pop straight off.

Screenshot_1803.png

Screenshot_1804.png

I usually dont disturb the soil at all at this point but being a seedling and wasnt potted that long ago it kinda fell apart  i gently got rid of any soil that wasnt attatched to the root system

Screenshot_1805.png

now all i do is sit it gently in the bucket of water using my fingers to hold the plant upright, most of the soil will wash right away without the need of any agitation, bigger root systems will need a bit of a massage but nothing too bad.

Screenshot_1806.png

This is what im left with, a very minute amount of soil left over which will not affect the hydro at all, will wash out generally within a couple of days.

Screenshot_1807.png

Then hold your plant in position and fill in around it in the netpot,, easy done :thumb:

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

While i am at it i will put up my nute schedule i have been working on since switching to GH nutes, this is the exact schedule i have run for Red Diesel, all of my vegging plants are also using this, found it to be a pain in the butt working out measurements from gallons so its done per litre. Weeks 1-3 are 1/2 strength, weeks 4-on are at 4/5 strength, if i want to veg longer than 4 weeks i simply keep my mixtures at week 3 strength for as many weeks as i like which saves nutes and doesnt affect the speed of growth, one week before heading to flower i go to week 4 mix to build up nute strength a bit before flower so i can hit them hard as soon as i flip :thumb: The only additions i use that are not GH are Dutch Master Gold Zone and Silica.

Screenshot_1815.png

(if the pic is too small should be able to zoom or right click and view image)

This is for recirculating hydro systems only, is probably way too strong for soil, i will get around to doing one for soil too as i need it for my outdoor girls :)

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Attitude order arrived today, stealth shipping almost even fooled me  came in a pair of fluffy earmuffs, when i say in i mean inside the earmuffs, had been sewn back up and the only way i could tell they were inside was a little plastic noise when squeezing one side of the ear muff, had to cut it open to find the seeds hidden in their bags

Screenshot_1816.png

Might drop in an Incredible Bulk tonight :)

Bonza order still not here, only ordered it a week before my attitude order, so bloody slow, they better have the beans right this time!

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Feral I appreciate the DWC setup man I definitely want to look into it for my next grow when I do the scrog. Trying something different! Have a great day my friend :)

No worries at all pat :) if you have any problems or need any advice im here to help :thumb:

LoL having problems already with this growI really need that PPM and PH pen man it is kicking my nuts. I will definitely stop by but not too sure the BioBizz Organic range would work on a hydro system?

re: Feral's Journal of Insanity & Some Growing

Defo a PH pen mate, most used tool especially in hydro :thumb: Yeah not too sure about the biobizz nutes, i dont see any reason why they wouldnt work but probably not the ideal nutes for a DWC, the more organic ingredients usually means changing the res out more frequently and ph fluctuations, I have some BioCanna here left over ive been meaning to give a try in a DWC but just have not got around to it
