New Moon
At the new moon, the lunar gravity pulls water up, and causes the seeds to swell and burst. This factor, coupled with the increasing moonlight creates balanced root and leaf growth.
The first quarter is the best time for planting above ground bearing annual crops that produce their seeds outside the fruit. Examples are lettuce, spinach, celery, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and grain crops.

2nd Quarter Moon

In the second quarter the gravitational pull is less, but the moonlight is strong, creating healthy leaf growth. It is generally a good time for planting, especially two days before the full moon.
The types of crops that prefer the second quarter are annuals that produce above ground, but their seeds form inside the fruit, such as beans, melons, peas, peppers, squash, and tomatoes.
Plant just before the full moon to get the benefits of peak moisture.

Full Moon

The third and fourth quarters are after the full moon when the light is waning or decreasing, and the energy is drawing down.
The gravitation pull is high, creating more moisture in the soil, but the moonlight is decreasing, putting energy into the roots. This is a favorable time for planting root time for crops, such as beets and carrots.
It is also good for perennials, bulbs and transplanting because of the active root growth. Prune in Scorpio.

4th Quarter Moon

In the fourth quarter there is decreased gravitational pull and moonlight, and this is considered a resting period.
This is also the best time to cultivate, harvest, transplant, fertilize and prune.
Mow lawns in the third or fourth quarter to retard growth.
Use the water signs for deep watering of shrubs and trees.

Thank you, Felipe.

So, do you always grow according to the moon and if you haven't always grown this way, what differences did growing with the moon cycles make for your garden, personally?

Okay, back to gardening..
No, I haven’t always been able to time gardening activities according to the moon, but I have found some apparent benefits from being in sync, like better growth and resilience.

Although no side-by-side trials have been conducted, anecdotally, the BeBos and GLGA were up-potted on the new moon, and the Autos around the full moon and after. See for yourself lol.

I try to do things by the moon phase also (Not all. It’s a good guide for lots of things from farming to hunting/fishing. Congrats on the clone roots, I’m doing the same with my magic melon plants. Hopefully yet a taste before October harvest. Although I have to many plants already I didn’t want to have to fire up the LED’s this summer. Anyone is NorCal need a few plants LMK. Lol

Taking measurements for the 4”x4” wire mesh cages to support the BeBos:

BeBo1 currently 32”W x 44”L - needs 3’x4’ cage.

BeBo2 currently 36”W x 36”L - will continue to extend L to ~44-46” along telescoping pole - will need 3’x4’ cage.

Thank you so much for tht moon guide. I think im gonna try to up pot my auto with the new moon and see how it goes. I've heard a lot about moon cycles but never any details or explanations so :thanks:

That's not too far at all! All of your plants are looking fantastic my friend, why not hang on to them? I plan on having my 6 mains going and then keeping another or so in a different place in the yard trying to hide it
Thank you very much. I am not getting rid of any of the ones you see in my journal, I have various clones I have gotten or taken off my plants that are extra and sitting inside with my LED panels running. I have 8 outside right now in 6 bags so I think that will be plenty for me to take care of this summer. I was planning on flowering them, but have decided to focus on my outdoor grow and maybe save a lil bit of energy since the pool pump/AC has been running now. I think I have found homes for all of them as of right now with friends and fam, but if I have any left by the end of the weekend you are welcome to them. I will let you know for sure.

Oh ok that makes sense, how difficult was it for you to cut and root your clones? I have a couple plants im thinking of grabbing a few from. Fantastic! Glad they all found homes, thats the main goal. Thanks again :peace:

I’ve had so many different experiences cloning. The way that works best for me is rapid rooter plugs and a humidity dome. Usually see roots in about 10 days.

See post #313 above. I clipped off extra veg, rolled cut end in Clonex gel, stuck into rooter that I presoaked in 5ml/L Clonex solution and a pinch of fulvic acid (and squeezed out excess liquid). Misted with same solution, and put plastic bag over to preserve humidity. Saw roots in 8 days.
