Emmie's Vegan Fertilizer, Pineapple Chunk 2020 Celebration: Experimental Soil Grow

Hey that’s my chart!

@Emilya if your buds are still too wet to smoke do not put them in the freezer. You will be doing exactly as you said.. expanding water erupts every cell in the plant matter causing serious bruising, degradation, and oxidation of trichomes.

i.e. the fastest way to a destroyed harvest.... without a woodchipper

if I were you, I’d cut the hang short by 3-4 days and go in straight to the fridge. They’ll be good in there for up to 3 weeks without any fear of over drying, especially in paper bags.
*if you wanna go one step further with air circulation control, put them into your jars and cover the jars with silk, cheesecloth, or stocking material. You can slow down drying to 25-30 days in jars in the fridge.

Thank you for that chart! Direct theft was unintended.
I can follow procedures published like this. :adore:

This is exactly why I made the flowchart! I wanted to organize what I have in my head as I go through my process of getting my product to long term storage.

its alright. It’s funny you posted it on a thread I follow

I have never tried this, and it is going to be a bit of a gamble, but one I am willing to take for 8 days. Who knows...
I am currently drying my second batch of bud in the fridge according to the instructions @MrSauga generously gave me and my first try the (bud that dried out to 10oz) I had divided up into 4 bags took two weeks to get to the point it was near 65% so I think you will be fine with your bud in the fridge for 8 days unattended.

So I'm within a week or less to harvest. Unfortunately I can't use the fridge, for obvious reasons, lol. I trimmed and went straight into paper bags to dry then into mason jars. Seemed to work fine, but the smell of the bud changed a lot and the taste didn't match the smell. Any advice for me, I'm open to all suggestions.

My suggestion would be to not wet trim. The more you handle the buds before they dry the more the trichomes get bruised. You should try doing it this way; remove all big fan leaves and hang to dry on the stem. Trim only when the buds are dry enough to jar. Where you hang the buds you should be shooting for 40-60F with rH no higher than 55.

My biggest issue is it's winter in the midwest and the RH is super low. I can turn off the heat and get the room in the low 60's, but the RH is something I can't change without spending a couple grand to replace the humidifier on my HVAC system. Thanks for the reply, what do think?

Also a quick question, I'll ask it here on Emily's thread because I know I'll get solid responses. I'm at 11.5 weeks most my girls should be done by now, but the first 3 weeks I had low temps and slow growth. I'm growing autos and they seem to have adjusted and slowed their roll/ finish time. I'm seeing some Amber like maybe 10% but on the calyx themselves very few.
Now the Dark Devil has been foxtailint and is now showing big fresh white pistils? Why? Should I harvest , is this normal?
I'm wondering if I'm not getting the Amber because of the slow start and extended flower? Any theory y'all have is appreciated.

From what I remember of my DDa, she goes on putting out white pistils always. Also she never really ambers up very much cause of her heavy Sativa genetics. As for how long they should go, I think if you’re past the 80 day mark the DDa can come down. I chopped mine at day 74 from sprout, but I couldn’t tell you if I should have let it go longer. I haven’t tasted it yet. It’s only been curing 2.5 weeks after a 9 day dry. I’m gonna let it go 4 weeks before I try it. I would harvest it though.

for your drying problem. That temp is good, maybe if you could hang them like in a large cardboard box, like a wardrobe box or a refrigerator box, their own moisture will help regular the rH. If that’s not a viable option, you just need to keep a very close eye on them. The more you can limit the open space around them, the more their internal moisture will have an effect on the ambient humidity.

Thanks. I wasn't aware the DD did that. I have several others that look done as well, shrunken pistils , size has stopped, but Amber not there. I don't want to chop too early. In your opinion do you think my slow start due to cold the first 3 weeks has caused these autos to take longer?

I’m not at all an expert on autos... shit I’m not even close to an expert on growing in general...
That being said, my understanding of autos is that any problems that might occur early on do not change the time it takes the plant to finish. Early life issues tend to just hurt the yield.
Again, I’m no expert. Unless you’re positive the cultivars don’t amber up much (like in the case of DDa) I would wait to see them amber up. How’s their water intake? Are they still very thirsty or has that tapered way off?

Funny you mention water. Tonight is water night and they still feel a bit heavy. I also work my fingers down into to soil and it's still moist closer to the surface more than usual.

So here’s what I’m thinking;
you’re very close but not quite there. Feed them normal. I bet you they’ll be ready in 2 or 3 more dry/wet’s. I know the point you’re at, it’s very hard to not chop when the growth slows or stops and the buds are big and sticky looking. I’m right there with you. My plants look so ready to come down. But I’m not going to rob myself of a huge spike in potency because I’m getting anxious. Let the trichomes get to the amber you know you’re looking for. You won’t regret it, even if it feels like too long.

were trying to take them when they’d be literally on their deathbed for winter, you know? Let them live out (most of)their old age.

Thanks. I'm going to wait a day and water tomorrow. My staivas got water tonight they were dry as he'll. This auto Zamaldelica is turning out to be a beast!
The DD I have to be very careful moving. The lower branches are at their breaking point and getting darker by the day. Kind of cool.

Mine turned out damn near black. I wanna smoke it so badly, but I’m still just being patient. It kind of helps that I’ve only got a couple days a week where a Sativa high is what I’m after. Also I’m still finishing up the last of my previous harvest. I’ve still got a few grams of everything, Cookies n Chem, Star Pupil, and LA Cheese.

Mass Star Pupil, and their other Pupil strains are on my wish list, but until they make it an Auto I'm SOL. I grow in a large room with reflective partitions so photos are out for now. I can't keep them light free.
I'm good on bud. I've got a couple oz's left from last grow, even with my brother texting me..."hey by chance do you....lol".

I am on about page 10 of this thread and to my surprise, you are using Bud Explosion and Sweet Candy which are the additives that apparently Greenleaf says aren't necessary. I actually have both these supplements but haven't used them because many warn against their use.

I understand they aren't necessary and read that you want to get all you can out of your plants which is an argument I can't disagree with. But since I am only on page ten I am not sure how they worked out and my plants are screaming for water so may I please ask @Emilya if you continued using those 2 supplements and if you would recommend them?

I am only recommending them at certain times in the grow, and yes, the stuff in them is in there... but if you are careful and choose the times when the plants can use the extra supplements, they can be used.
The suggested feeding amounts in the supplements calculator confirm that 1 gram of each is absolutely the maximum you want to give, until at the very end you can up the BE to 1.5g. Don't give either of these products before the second week of stretch, and only if you have MC correctly dialed in. If you are running over 6g of MC, don't give the supplements... you are already pushing it. And lastly, SK is a great additive during veg to help the roots grow... but stop it when you flip.
Keep reading... we found some got ya's in there if you try to push things too hard.

Thank you so much for the info Emilya. I just missed your message by a few minutes before I added the BE and SK. I am in my first week of flower and giving 5g/gal MC so I am a little early but I only gave them I gram of each so hopefully I will be ok.

I am definitely going to keep reading as this is one informative journal. Also sorry for involving you inadvertently in that little brouhaha in the MC thread. I was just trying to give credit where due but it didn’t get perceived as that by all, unfortunately.

Also in retrospect my advice about fridge drying I would like to add a qualifier that the bags I used are double layered so you may want to double bag your buds and seal the ends especially since the outer buds would dry more. I reach in and mix my buds up every other day so they dry evenly and since you will be away I think double bagging and sealing would help.
