Hey Ed...not sure how you sprout but get a matchbox, toss the matches and cut some 100 grit sandpaper to fit the bottom. Put the seeds you're about to sprout in the sandpaper matchbox, close it up, and shake gently for about a minute. THEN get yourself some pH'd distilled water and mix it with 3% hydrogen peroxide in a ratio of 5:1. Put your sanded seeds in that for 12-24 hours and then transfer to paper towel which has been soaked in the same solution. It's been a great run for Queen Mother Wilhelmina Wappa and her offspring. I'm not sure how long I can keep a good thing going, but I intend to find out. The last group of clone attempts are not looking very good. I switched to FOOP and I see no root growth yet. Fingers crossed.
Some more bad luck with a Barney's Purple Punch Auto bean that germinated but failed to sprout. Ditto on a Gelato Fem from Homegrown. This brings Barney's germination rate to only 50% with 1 of 5 beans remaining.
Today, a second germinated Barney's PPA bean was put under the dome. I hope I can get a couple of clones off her. Also germinated and placed in the dome a Bruce Banner Fem from Homegrown for a new, second mother.
The sandpaper knocks back the seed's natural waxy coating and scars the shell, helping the water to get in while the oxygenating action of the H2O2 helps bubble the water in deeper to the seed and gives it a little O2 in the process.
