DV8 Reg Photo Grow For Science

Dropped by the Big kids, check watering system etc.

Still no sex, counted 14 parallel nodes on the biggest 2, and even then the number might be higher as they shed the underside fans, and I clipped a couple laterals on the LST ones.

Main stems except the topped ones are starting to dwarf out the secondary nodes, however the secondaries are somewhat close to even across the griw in height and stem width.

If they ever mature/flip over likely to have thick main and plenty (6to 12) secondaries on all but the topped one.

Had a really good look, all but 1 are thumping the bottom of the pots, probably shot myself in the foot. Its possible to get an upsize and media to them but it would be hard work going so far uphill into the undergrowth.

If the decision is to be made then it will need to be soon, surely maturity cant be far away. If I do upsize it will be more waterings and might be pointless if they flip in a week to 10 days.

Also the stretch could take them above 5 feet yet, kind of hard to get my head around after the slow start, but officially they are still in veg so any day soon the taller ones will be over 2.5 feet tall even with all the tie work.

The cages wont hold their width at those heights, and swapping out would be a task, not to mention noticeable when they approach eye height. Leaving their feet in tight shoes might save some heartache yet.

Had they been home I would have used covers to force flip, until daylight hours matched, out there Im at their mercy.

If they run 60 days flower Ill be fighting bud rot and wet tracks, even if they did go in the next week. Anything past Anzac day (April 25th) is red zone around here. Every chance of frost and extended wet cloudy days and nights with a few sunny ones thrown in.

I always uppot a week or so before flipping. I think I was told to do this early on.

I have learned that if you are going to drop the ball, Veg is the safest time to do it. Just pick it back up and run - I’m talking with the ball, not the plant. And I also mean metaphorically. Like don’t go randomly running with a ball lolll

I am an absolute controlling OCD neat freak. I went away for a week around 4 years ago, and every day my bf would send me pics of our unmade bed, dishes slowly piling up, not just on the sink, but the coffee table and study area, towels on the floor in the bathroom and dirty clothes mounting in a pile BESIDE the dirty clothes hamper.

I have a night shift tonight. My goal for this weekend is not to see things that aren’t there and go full ham sandwich on Tee Bee like I did on Mimmy post nightshift.

Sounds like he gets a good deal! Your vids are always accurate to your statement. Its untidy here at times, but not dirty. I complain about the shoes during vacuums, she hates the shed. Bad as one another

It is not the most ideal, but the few I've had that sport a damaged first node leaf or cotyledon don't normally turn out to be showstoppers. Hopefully they'll be fine.

Going by the sunrise to sunset hours should reach 13/11 by 27th of Feb.

Assembled the big cage today and put further down the west side of the hill where the forest canopy will knock off direct sunlight by an hour in the morning, and about 2 in the afternoon.

I cant cover them and force them in so this was the only strategy I could think of to try and force the issue.

Ill be back there in the morning, had a really solid look over them (3) and just maybe theres some small growth where sex should show at the node. If they are hitting maturity I expect it wont be too many days to wait to see. It wasnt throughout the stem, just here and there so could be nothing.

Should add I found the problem with the really burnt fans on one, poor thing sat butt chugging runoff as I hadntvdrilled the holding container. Another woopsie.

Didnt want to shift them but looks like anything up to fortnight in the mid to high 30s again, and high teen/low 20s o/n, so a bit of relief wont hurt none.

Probably have to go shift them back up the hill once the cooler shorter wet days come. Have seen Autumn (Fall) rush in and take over in March before, but more often than not its a slow but steady move to lower temps and generally drier days. La Nina has been solid this year so far and is expected to continue.

Had a really good look at the pots and roots, gotta hand it to you @Stunger the drilled pots work like a charm. $3 black plastic PRCs are keeping up with the geo and airprune pots you can pay anywhere from triple to 10x like for like, genius.

Next season (rolls eyes) less plants, bigger pots, earlier start and just get a couple bangers through. If nothing else learnt a bunch more this grow that can only make whatever follows better. Not even finished veg yet .

I like order. I have found the more organised my life is, the better my line of thinking is. I don’t even have a junk drawer anymore! I even colour coordinate my clothes Deeve! I’m that fucking person! Lolllll

Tbh the autos might come good, or at least get better, just a bit disappointing at this stage.

Decided not to go out this morning, Ill get a pic next time Im out. Feel like all Ive done is chase my tail this week with them.

Woke up and was like : Theyll be fine, they are watered, moved, ties reset, and not mature yet. Wanted to reset the watering points and give them more lift but fuck it. Im unfit, and its not fun marching up those hills. I love being there, looking at them. Might still go haha.

Yesterday there was a light plane flying over pretty late in the day. First pass overhead I hid near the vehicle, it was pretty low. Second pass about 30 mins later Ive got them all the kids in the open watering them and shit laying everywhere haha. Im paranoid enough ya jerks.

Thats how they do it here, low broad fly overs then send choppers to pinpoint toward harvest. Anyone planted in runs the gauntlet.

Was really gonna take the two runts out as the main priority, this week though might be better to stay here.

I had a similar experience with a fly. My gf and I were tripping and I went to the toilet and met this talking fly, I didn’t want to say anything mainly coz flys don’t talk. But she went to the toilet and came back and was like “omg there’s this fly in the bathroom! It talks!” Me: omggggggg I know!!!!! We were both convinced the bikies at this party were after us, but we couldn’t stop laughing when trying to formulate an escape plan. They weren’t btw.

Last time I tripped I didn’t want to, and a gf was all “I need you with me…”. So I thought I’ll drop it, then spit it out. So I put it in my mouth and went to the bathroom, and she came in chattering behind me so it was in my mouth for a bit before I spat it out.

About an hour later we are at the club and I’m dancing thinking to myself “I’m the best dancer, I just know people are watching….” My last lucid thought was “faaaaaak, I’m so not the best dancer, that fucking trip dissolved before I spat it…” I just went with it and tripped for 10 hours.

That was all a very long time ago. Now I just trip on stairs or slightly uneven footpaths.

Some of the best stories are the kind of low key ones. Talking flies is right up there.

Those SA uniforms were the first to cuff me up, in Oz. Got charged with Lacerny, which is greater than Petty Theft,
(fucking SA, still a bloody penal colony in terms of laws)
which would have been a misdemeanour.

So they have my prints. And a shitty night in the lockup. The funny part about all that was they never searched the vehicle, and when we got back to Melbourne sold all the Oranges in the boot and in the rear seats to a bloke at the Vic market, made enough to cover my legals.

It was first time I went down for a mate, and my last. Ran into him about 6 years ago, he was sleeping rough, and I barely recognised him until he spoke.

The people with me at the time were like wtf, we were all working in a govt job, wearing suits and corporate wear, they could not believe I knew him.

This group of workmates, 6 figures a year heavy hitters with Uni educations, looking at me like "How do you know this guy?"
Some asked. You can be sure I said, friend of the family.

My (ex) mate would be lucky to have had 6 dollars, or 6 meals in a row. The only thing I felt bad about was my reputation in that group. Still is. For sure his liver hasnt got long, wouldnt wish it on someone but hes walked his path.

They are growing. Kinda got this soft spot for them, GG4 is all sorts of weirdness. Its amusing. NL is hanging on with second set of true leaves coming, and GG4 her 3rd.

Yeah some of the seed raising mix had a moss and some short thin grass growing in it after sitting around unused for a couple years. This is the last of it on hand, local supply cant (say won't) get any more in. Literally bottom of the bag.

It by far the best medium for general seedlings on the market, made up in another state, Oz owned company.

I dont mind a few babies in the soil early on, once they get a bit big, snip off their heads and leave the microbes do their thing.

Start off by saying I feel alot like this Auto grow is a lot like racing to nowhere fast. Probably says more about me than the plants honestly.

GG4 went up a pot size, and got her neck buried a little deeper. Yesterday they had some stronger breezes, up to some almost windy gusty time out on the patio pavers and sun. Then back under lights, then start the morning with the light, then back to the pavers.

Schedule is about 20/4 save for the dark period at dawn, Im leaving home well before the sun is up as we head towards Autumn.

O/N temps have shifted around, 9.6C low last night, but we return to the hot o/ns again tonight, closer to 20C.

I hate them, but for canna outdoors its great as itkeeps them in the grow zone for much longer.

They wake up and go to bed with great temps and much better RH. Going to get sticky though, theres a 95RH prediction in there.

Thats kind of not a problem yet, for certain though the big kids will set flower late, and we are headed to the danger zone. Cant even bring myself to say the B word.

Heres the little girls, kinda embarrassed for them. GG4 got a new mix under her feet, if shes hungry its there in reach. Both got a bit of a brew in the water, castings, kelp, and a smidge of nettle, nothing crazy like the bottle, but a good spread of goodness if they are missing out.

Thats the part I think is hardest for me, can I even do Autos at my hand? Ive always coddled the little ones, got worse after the non germ disaster.

But with only getting 3/4/5 weeks before they shift gears and want to go to flower Im kind of lost how to veg them. My grows are slow, these are pocket rockets.

I wouldn't actually laugh, but it would be funny if the Autos finished before the big kids. Breeders specs have them at roughly the same time, and the germ gap Ive put in should be around whats required to keep these 2 together.

But lets just lay the cards on the table and say I have no fucking idea what will happen. Im picturing 2g of bud on the Auto girls each at this point (and thats wet weight) , while the others set preflowers a day before being killed by an early frost.

On that lovely optimistic note here are the Auto girls this afternoon.

Look its my first go, and if they were photos the 18/6 is perfectly fine.

4 is probably the min dark, despite the auto side they will still need some rest. Because of the auto the more I can squeeze out of them especially before flower the better.

At least thats my thinking. Whatever mistakes made Ill try and rectify next run. 2 of each remaining.

I think that is the best and healthiest option. Healthiest just for our own sanity to not beat ourselves up for mistakes, because shit happens and mistakes happen too. But you note what happened, and look into it, ponder it, and come up with a change to hopefully counter it.

My grow location hasn't changed. Using the same pots of soil for the last 4 years I think. But I have added things as I gained awareness of them. Watching for the differences that occur. Then note something that might be made better and off you go again. My first couple of 'serious' grows were very low yielding affairs. To be honest, it should have improved more the following year but I stubbornly refused to see the obvious mistake and didn't change until the reality of another mediocre year rammed it home. But changes lead to improvements so I agree with your approach.
