Well I'm hoping to start a new grow next week. Only thing holding me back is the temps in my grow space. It's 65-66 right now and it's frigid out, so I'm thinking around 70 deg when it's not cold as shit out. But I might plant anyways and deal with the low temps.
Get a 15 buck space heater from your favorite home improv. Maybe a seed mat from zon.

I would start and just invest in a small heatmat! They are a great item to have in the arsenal of grow equipment! I use mine a lot for popping beans and setting clones.

As always you have yourself another fantastic grow ,and a very informative journal great job , i run co2 for all my grows , i find it does make a significant difference ,i use a tank and reg and co2 ppm meter and it is on the same timer as the lights for flower as running co2 at night (lights off ) is a total waste of co2 , i run a open tent -lights on and temps 82 humidity at 60% and co2 around 900 -1000 ppm , i do use alot of co2 this way but i have had the alarms on the meter come on in the past (have alarms set at 2000ppm ) with a closed tent situation , not really sure witch is a better route to go as the exhaust sucks the co2 out as i need to maintain the temps , this is a very challenging to find the perfect set up with co2 and a closed tent here in ontario in the middle of july , i only run co2 for the last 2 weeks of veg and then till the last 2 weeks of flower , i find my plants drink more on co2 also , i grow in coco.i am not sure that i have the yield vs the cost of co2 totally dialed in but i can tell you it is a lot more fun watching the explosive growth on co2 .

Dutch is right, man. Heatmat's are the cats meow. Not just for sprouting seeds, but all kinds of things you wouldn't have thought of!

Match them up with a controller (which run about $20-$30 depending on brand/model) and you're in business!

Now those controllers? Man, they're slick. They can take up to 15A/1875w (be careful though, some are 12A/1500w) which means what? That's right, you can use that heatmat controller to kick a space heater on/off. :D :D :D

I'm doing that right now, in fact.

I have 2 controllers, which are plugged into timers. One timer turns on a controller for the daytime, the other turns on for the night cycle. This in turn lets me set minimum day/night temps. At night I run a little 200w heater, and I just added a little 350w heater for the day time. (The 200w wasn't quite enough.)

It's working like a champ. The ambient temps in the room are running about 65F-66F around the clock right now. I have the heat set for 70* overnight, and 77* for the daytime, and the tent is rockin.

It may be a stupid question, but that's with all the lights on? My indoor space is colder than that in the winter with the lights out, but the lights keep the space in the upper 60s when they're on.

Autos are a good choice when it's colder since you can leave the lights on all the time for heat if you need to!

Yes, with all the lights on. I'm not in a tent, I'm in an open room with partitions I made with 6mm mylar they use in grow tents. And I will be using autos.
I was looking at heat mats on Amazon. They have one that is almost 2' wide by 4' long . Two of those would work under my pots.
A heater would be ok, but the thought of having one running unattended kind of freaks me out.

Oil filled heaters are pretty non-threatening.

I was going to run one last year but I realized I don't have the amperage available in the shed.

You just remedied me, I don't have the juice to run a heater. Whoever wired this house sucked. If I'm downstairs in my media room and have everything on I can pop the breaker by turning on the vacuum cleaner. I was happy I didn't throw it when I added a new light for flower last month.

Heaters take the juice for sure. A 1500w is going to run ya 12.5A on a 120v circuit.

So that's pretty much all that you're going to be running on that line.

Not sure of the square footage you need to warm up, but maybe something smaller? Like in the 400w-600w range could get it done? The heat mats are good, but only for things sitting on them. They won't radiate (much) heat to warm a room.

Is there anything you could sit under the pots for insulation? Cheap foam, or something like that? (I save packing materials from boxes for just this purpose, and others as well.

Thanks for the info Noobie I appreciate it!

Very nice Journal and plants Dutch. Just got caught up.

Loving your setup aswell. I have a bunch of HLG lights and I think I will be turned over to Budget after seeing your grow! Also the Series 3 are out with the new diodes. Can’t wait for Full Spec on that light.

Could you describe the CO2 setup your using? You mentioned it was natural and I am using the Exhale bags in my tents.

I don’t have a Meter nor do I know how much they actually help. I do run my exhaust during flower after about week 4 til the end. I use 1 Exhale 365 bag in the 3x3. And 2 in a 5x5.

If there was a different method I could use rather than a tank and regulator I am interested to hear about it.

Also your 4x4 is a tent right ? Do you run it sealed up ?

My tents run zipped up 75% of the way leaving some opening during veg. After the smell comes around and buds have set I tend to zip them up and turn the carbon scrubber / exhaust on.

Thanks in advance for any help and thank you for sharing the grow with us it is very informative and helpful :Namaste:

Have a awesome Friday brotha!

i didnt find the bags added enough co2 and wasnt able to control the ppm`s either with them and it wastes a lot , i believe running co2 with out a meter is just shooting in the dark , is there to much ,not enough , i agree adding some co2 is still better than nothing but if it isnt high enough ,the cost of the bags vs yield just isnt worth it in my mind .

Heyas NOOBIE , and thanks for the thoughts regarding the CO2.

I had bought 4 of the bags from the local grow shop and they worked quite well in my 3x3 because the lights never gave me heat issues always peaking at 78-81 in there. I could then zip the tent up and not use the exhaust much or at all.

In my newer 5x5 I run a lot more watts and they create more heat. I tested the tent with all QB panels on for 6hrs a month ago and it peaked at 90f! Since then I have dimmed the main light to half Wattage and added more powerful fans over the drivers. This has reduced the peaks to 81. I like having the bags in hopes when flower hits and I turn the lights up the plants are happy even at 83-84f. Might be wishful thinking though. These temps are without exhaust running.

Thanks for your tips they are bang on my thinking aswell.

To recap.

3x3 runs cooler at lows of 68-70. Highs 78-79.

5x5 lows are 70-71. Highs 80-81.

I got 4 bags. I think I should just toss them in and see what happens. Either that or I turn up the lights in the 5x5 and the temps will exceed 82. Likely peak at 84-85.

I’d like to not run the exhaust with the bags inside. But I will likely have to due to odour after the buds form.
