Dutchman’s 1st Grow Ever: 2018

Alrighty! So I checked in on the 2 Early Miss girls and they are doing great!

Em1 didn’t even get phased by her transplant! She has perked up more and pointed those leaves to the light! The net is working wonders giving her a great spread! I’m going to give her another day to settle in and get her roots out into the new soil and then give her a bit defoil before I flip this upcoming weekend! I plan on giving a big defoil now and 3 weeks into flower then just remove fan leaves as needed throughout flowering. Hope everyone is having a great Sunday! Here’s a couple pictures of EM1 filling in that net already!

Told you at least 3/4 once you get that net in there, she’s a monster, you’re gonna get the best stacking you’ve seen with a long veg like that.

Haha I didn’t realie how much of that net she was going to fill up but man was I surprised! Once I got the net in and pushed down I began to weave her and tuck her and she took up more than 1/2 of the net already before going into flower! I plan on giving her this week to stretch out her roots and then start flower next Saturday! I’ll do a big leaf strip this Tuesday or Wednesday let her catch up and then flip! I’ll see how bushy she gets after the flip but I plan on doing another big defoil week 3 of flower once stretch has stopped!

Hope your doing well today my man!

Boveda62% once they are in jars sounds good to me!
I usually save the Boveda62s for the cure, which for me is after all the burping. But then I have RH over 62% most of the time!
How long do you dry before a decarb?
I dry it until it feels about the same as cured bud if that helps.
I turned my box fan on for an hour this
60% RH and 60F is about perfect IMO. I wouldn't put too much air blowing around. Just enough so it's not stagnate. Aim the fan up and into a wall or something. I am jellous in that you can get ambient conditions like that. My basement lives at 50% RH and below and 70-73F. The plus side is that I don't have to worry about mold much. Trying to dry in 40%RH is a b%^&$.
I'm there with SS. Box fan probably too big as the rule is the hanging buds shouldn't move from the fan. And I'm hanging my AK at around 70% RH...time to break out the mini dehumidifier and put them all in a box.

I remember reading that when you feed after a heavy defoliation, it's better to go lighter on the nutes as there is less plant to process them. Though I think I read someone say that since there is less plant they need more nutes! The former seems to make more sense to me so that's the way I go.

Plants look dynamite Dutch!

Here in Ontario we have just transitioned from 70% humidity plus daily down to 30% or lower til may. I’ve had to readjust everything but think god my power bill will drop a bit now that I’m only emptying the dehumidifier every other day instead of three times a day. I have to use boveda packs during burp as the buds go bone dry long before the stems are snap panel so it kind of brings everything to that ideal level sooner. It’s something that’s works for me but is not canon by any means.

So true OG! So much of the drying/burping process is dependent on the RH that it can be annoying when growers say "this is how it's done!" This is what make hygrometers key. Knowing your ambient RH is really the best way to set a course of action.

Excellent advice bob, and I want to point out that so many growers here (including old timers) seem to think that they have the answer and if you do something different, you don't know what you're doing.

It's refreshing to hear from growers who advise the way you do.

Lottsa ways to skin the cat as they say. There's for sure a lot of crazy made up science around this plant that seems to be spread as some sort of gospel that has no merit in science/chemistry/physics or biology.

I for sure wood love to see that change. Basically its turning or probably already has been turned into a way to lighten unsuspecting wallets.

I don't know how we ever grew anything before the industrial age started...

Dutch your WW #1 looks GREAT. WW #2 ... burnt her early on too much N maybe.

How did you get #1 perfect? You did something different with #2??

@bobrown14

Ok so he has a 6-ton hydraulic jack with electronic heat plates on a digital thermostat.

Yeah thanks I'm looking around at these - do you know what brand his press is??

Your return is good, that's a good setup. :p

Dutch congrats on your harvests. Good job buddy. Thats the puddin right there.

The early miss look thirsty/droopy. Going to be some big plants.

Oh yeah love your kitchen counter tops and tile back splash. That's some good stuff right there.

The “boxfan” I was referring to is a 12v cpu fan! You can see my DIY drybox in my journal here : DIY Drybox

Thanks for the support man! Appreciate all the input and feedback!

Hey bobrown! My buddy built his own press and heat plates but I can get you some information from him on how be built it if you like!

My WW2 got pH problems early on and she suffered from it the whole way through end of flower! But WW1 never had any issues and stayed strong and healthy !

The Early Miss sisters are going to be some big heavy girls! Looking forward to seeing them go !

I'm sure you've heard many times on here but Boveda 62% packs and burp those jars a few times a day.

That ^^^ then can let sit for months and still freshies!

Hey Dutch with that big canopy you're gonna have you might want to put a few 6" fans blowing at lower stalks. Keep the air flow going, its got many benefits.

Your hardware for your lighting those S hooks, man that makes me nervous. Do you have something like whats at the end of your ratchet system something that closes. I say that out of safety concern.

I have a 6” hurricane clip fan underneath the canopy that I recently bought and installed! Actually the other day when I installed the net the lower fan got installed !

The s-hooks your referring to being worried about. May I ask what... Like slipping? Or that may knock it off? Just curious I half multiple little clips like on the end of the ratchet hangers!

I'm jealous of those who can clip those hurricane fans to the corner poles on the tent! I've tried it in dozens of different configurations and I can get them in place fine but, as soon as I zip up the tent, the negative pressure in the tent sucks in the sides and it pops open the clips and the fan falls!

I had to tie some poles to the actual tent poles on the inside and I have to clip the fans onto those if I don't want them to fall as soon as I close the tent!

zipties :D

The zip ties work great, but are too permanent for my liking.

I like to be able to move the fans up as the plant grows and I raise the light. I try to get the fan to blow across the top of the canopy, just under the lights. It makes it tough for any mold spores to land on the plants. They hopefully just get blown around until they get sucked into the filter. But, at the same time, it's also blowing the heat off the light which helps keep the plants cooler and also helps keep the light cooler which extends the life of the light. That's my "pro tip" of the day!
