Dusted’s Traditional Hydroponic Grows

Got the new light and I can hardly wait to use it. It will have to wait until I harvest this crop and rearrange the buckets to fit under the light properly. I guess I might as well go down to four pots and get legal.

Got bored and went seed shopping. I don’t need more seeds, but I want more seeds. Ordered Strawberry Banana, Wedding Cake, and Mango Marengue. All high THC with some interesting terpene profiles. I tried to order some Peyote Zkittlez from a company I can’t name but the credit card section was in Spanish and it didn’t seem to like my card so that didn’t work.

Day 39 post flip

This forum is such a wonderful resource, between the stickies and the very many knowledgable growers who will help. Watching Oldsmokeys thread always gets me thinking. He bought a new led so I figured I needed one too. Now he is getting a possible Ca/Mg deficiency under the new light, which is not unknown. Being a boy scout in my youth I figure get ready for the next grow. My tap water has 160 mg/L of Ca which should be lots, since I have to add close to 20% of the reservoir volume of new tap water daily. However, the water only contains about 15 mg/L of Mg, which may not be enough. I did some calculations today about how much epson salt (MgSO4*7H2O) would be required to boost the Mg to 50 mg/L. That would be pretty close to the ratio of the commercial CalMag products, which go for 3:1 Ca/Mg. I think I will add the extra Mg to each reservoir change next grow just to be proactive.

Now, to the poor plants. Leaf necrosis has progressed significantly. I guess there was more damage done than I thought, before I got on it. Thankfully there is still enough leaf area to transpire water and for photosynthesis. They are still going through 10-12 L of water a day. The buds have filled out hugely and the new sugar leaves look good. I should be able to salvage this crop. Still about a month to go.

Even with the increased K I am still seeing new leaf damage. It is looking more like classic Mg deficiency now. I wasn't going to add any extra Mg this grow since it only has a month to go, but ended up adding 35 mg/L Mg today, when I spotted the new colour change. Can't hurt, might help.

I used 350 mg/L of Epsom salt, since the Mg is only 10% of the molecular weight. Hopefully the sulphate ion doesn’t cause me issues, since I also use sulphuric acid to neutralize alkalinity.

Day 46 post flip

The magnesium seems to have stopped the yellowing between the veins from progressing further. That with the increased K, should allow them to make it till harvest. The new sugar leaves are looking healthy. They are certainly not pretty plants and won't really get frosty due to all the leaf damage, but the buds are producing resin. It's a shame I did such a rotten job with these plants because I do like the way they grow. I may have to order some in again for the future.

Day 54 post flip

I put the main metal halide back in for the day so I could get some pictures. I am surprised at how much the buds continue to grow. They are still throwing out lots of new pistils with only three weeks left till harvest. I just want this grow over so I don't have to look at brown leaves under a yellow light anymore.

The sulphuric acid salts don't buffer as well as the phosphoric acid ones, so I am getting way more pH swing. Still keeping it at 5.5-6.1 though. Probably adding 10 -12 L of water a day to the system.

I managed to get the un-named UK seed banks payment system to work so I have a couple Peyote strains on the way plus a bunch of freebies. Thankfully we are back to more seasonable weather instead of the 30 C and 60 RH of the last few weeks. My grow room was entirely too warm for many days.

I noticed one of the buds had rapidly browned. It's not at the top of the plant, and there are others much closer to the light. I first thought it might be bud rot, since we have had humid weather recently, but I have lots of air flow in the room. I took the bud off to get a closer look and it's not mushy, but rock hard. I wonder if it's UV burn, since I have both lights running MH. Hopefully I doesn't spread to other buds. An early taster

Looks cooked to me.
It does. I only had the MH installed so I could get some pictures. Just put the 600 W back to HPS and will do the main in the morning before it lights up.

@MrSauga @Pennywise
Sorry to bug you. I have some mostly Indica plants two weeks from harvest. Just recently some apex buds on the side branches have discolored and dried up almost overnight. The latest is on the far side of the plant from the light. These plants had severe K and some Mg deficiencies during early flowering which has been corrected. The RH has been 50-60% and the temperatures up to 26-28C recently. There are no obvious fungal filaments on the buds. I just noticed another bud on a different plant doing it. There is picture of a damaged bud two posts up. Is this bud rot? Should I just harvest two weeks early before it gets worse? I have never grown in summer before with the higher temperatures and RH

This is a weird schedule....not on their site, all the products I seen are measured to the gallon not ml

It sure does look like it's rotted but you don't see any signs of white wispy fur anywhere. Can you get more closeups of the bud? @InTheShed has got good eyes for that sort of thing too.
