Ok so I have some thoughts. First .. I almost died when you told Stank to send positive vibes to your plants. Glad I wasn't taking a sip of anything while I was reading .. My next thought is this.

We all know that it'll get worse before it gets better right. Gotta wake up the little guys in the soil. Good ole Doc says flush flush flush. Big rain storms flush away the bad. So just turn that frown upside down ok bud . it's gonna be Ok, my next thought is this.
If we know that everything we put in the soil doesn't come out and we run it more than twice; would we be able to flush the soil after say our second run? What I'm saying is, can we clean it and then amendment it and then count it as amendment flushed 3rd run soil and it act as 1st run soil? So that we can continue to use the soil and not run into these type of issues?
Another question Doogs, are the flowers being affected right now? Or are you just seeing the fan leaves being fried. Have been spraying De-stress? If so how often?
 
Hey dugg! Hope you don't mind if I tag along . Sorry to hear your girls are struggling. Stay strong hopefully they will bounce back after your flush and rescue drench!

welcome to my journal Dabber! Sorry your not entering during happier times!
I cant properly flush....these pots....i would have to run at least 20 gals. of pure water thru each pot without letting them uptake any of the run off!!!NOT gonna happen! All i can do is do what i did last night....next time they need a drink...(prolly in a week)give them another 6 gals of straight water. Doc says to use a shop vac and just keep putting water thru them.....well....i don't own a fuggin shop vac...so that's not gonna happen! My GR is very small with very limited access too...making everything much ...much more difficult! As 7 just said...these plants will look a lot worse in the coming days and tbh...im not sure i wanna keep lookin at them....just very pissed off.....ffs! As hard as i try ...sometimes its not enough...and that DOES NOT make me happy!

This is a good example of why I discard my soil after 4 runs.

Some people cut it with fresh Promix....others add a bit of coco....:thedoubletake::rollingeyes: but the bottom line is that if we want consistent results the soil can't have too much organic matter or too many salts.

4 runs per bale ain't bad....
 
4 runs per bale is fantastic....but not me...not after this grow.Im stopping at two from now on...it seems after that things are NOT right in the pots....plants just dont look as good. Others can fug around with later runs....NOT me...i dont have the time ..money or patience for it. The reason i use DBHBB is because the guess work and fuggin around has been for the most part removed. Why look for more trouble trying layer runs. Too much organic matter and a salt build up....a combination for failure.....like this grow of mine. Very ..very discouraging. Next drink....prolly in 7 days(cuz of flooding the pots last night) will be more straight water with a bit of Tea...thats all. Things WILL look a lot worse in the next few weeks. Pretty soon all leaves will be dead and single bladed bud leaves and buds will follow.....ive seen it many times before.

I would highly recommend growers who wanna go to 3rd run and beyond not to add any ewc's. or leaves and roots to the soil before cooking...just the appropriate amendment. Just my thoughts....however useful they are!

I prefer the 3rd run myself....but the 4th is only for certain strains. I always use 1st run soil for new strains and landrace. 3rd run for OG's, Paki and Ape. 4th Run Ape only....although the Jack Herer loves 4th run too, but I'm not growing that right now.

If you guys really want to extend the life of your soil---assuming there is a good reason to do so----I recommend flushing it after harvest and cutting in some fresh Promix after runs 3 and 4.

Also, some people are adding coco....which will suck up and hang on to a lot of the salts. I don't do this myself, as I prefer new soil. But if Promix is hard to find it's an option. I don't recommend it, but that's based entirely on the fact that I have no experience with it and the lab does NOT recommend it. This doesn't mean it won't "work" but it adds a lack of reliability to the soil.

When I need consistent production with no funny stuff, 1st or 2nd run all the time.

Morning Neiko....the way i look at this is....as we keep amending later runs with more and more ewc's and amendment and leaves and roots ...this is the problem.....no way can our plants use up all those ewc's....no way....up to 100 pounds of them in 45 gals. of soil over about 15 months...think about it....thats a hellava lot of organic matter we are putting in there. The soil simply gets clogged up...plain and simple. Just my thoughts bud!

From now on im gonna be advising growers to change their thinking ...just a little bit. We are all learning here...especially me!
my advise is going to be different than Doc's directions ....When amending later runs before cooking. first cook..use between 20 and 40 pounds ewc's. second cook..use 20 - 40 pounds ewc's.....third cook..cut entire bale with between 10 and 20 gals. of fresh PM ..omit ewc's entirly and re amend as per directions with 3rd run 'kit' amendment!
I am 100% confident in this advise cuz i have done it a couple grows ago with much success.
Speaking with 7 last night via pm's. i recalled when i cut the bale with fresh PM before a 3rd run cook...that grow wad a great success....well , this grow was it's companion 'kit' and i did NOT add fresh PM.....look what happened!!! I believe this advise is 'sound' and hope Doc can chime in and reinforce this new bit of advise.

How ive been doing it since day one is after the first run, all the soil got was the leaves and a handful of ROOTS. After the second run, 15 lbs of ewc, leaves and a handful of ROOTS with third round amendment. This is why ive always sworn by third run soil. I've also noticed as my LEDs get older, for some reason, they seem to be fucking up and burning my top leaves. Coincidentally, when I raised my lights all the way up in the tent as far as I can, the burning stopped, but then im sacrificing par. Im gonna sell my LEDs and go with DE HIDs. 2 grows ago, my plants looked just like yours Dug. I raised the lights up as far as possible and havent had an issue since...just sayin
 
Hey Duggs, question for you or the other Docs kit users. When you speak of these kits, how much total soil do you produce? Just curious. Will help me visualize what you are talking about. Thanks brother!!
 
hello Tard and thanks ...but my lights are at the top and have been there for a couple yrs now....my lights have zero to do with my plants issues...its the soil...100%. Too much organic matter in this 3 rd. ....4th run. Imo we add too many ewc's , leaves and roots while cooking for 3rd time without cutting with fresh PM. My recommendations for 3rd. run soil i believe to be very sound ....as i've already proven it. cheers eh...
