Duggan Does Ace's A5 x Malawi & Thai Chi In DBHBB

Ween, great to see you about bud.:passitleft:...Yes...re use the pipe cleaners as many times as ya can. I typically have to buy some once a yr. or so,..you know , some get lost, some get cut up , etc. but yup , save and reuse for sure. When i harvest one of the things we do is remove them...straighten them out and twist them together as a bundle until needed again.
yup..Stella....:yummy:....don't tell anyone though...more for us......:ganjamon:...cheers Ween.:passitleft:

I was just doing some research on how to control stretch and found this interesting bit of
info I had not been aware of but could be a big reason my girl stayed as short as she did

"
Temperatures in the grow room

When daytime temperatures within our grow space are much higher than those at night, plants are induced to produce more gibberellin, causing them to stretch considerably. If we can achieve a difference of less than 5ºC between daytime and nighttime temperatures, this problem is reduced greatly. However, by making the night temperature higher than that of the day, we can reduce gibberellin production by half and control the stretch. Indeed, research has shown that most of the stretching takes place during the first few hours of the morning, so simply by reducing temperatures for a couple of hours at daybreak to 5ºC below those at night for the first 3 weeks of flowering, we can almost eliminate the stretch completely. This is a technique known as a ?cold dump? and can be carried out either by venting cool air from outdoors in to the tent or by using an air conditioning unit if the outside temperatures are too high."

I say this could be the reason since when my SUN-RISE routine starts so do my humidifiers, they lower the temps
as the lights come on (takes 30 min BEFORE the HID). The temp goes lower for about an hour or so before the
temps start to go up to my full day temps. I could have inadvertently caused this.

Hey Gazoo...great day to ya man!
Thats a great little bit of research you did Mr!
I did know that high temps at flip...during day time hrs. Would/will contribute to stretching....BUT....i did not know that it could be greatly reduced if cold air is introduced to that extreme.
Unfortunately for me ...and most others ..that cold air is simply not available either thru outside air ...or thru AC for one reason or another.
For growers who have the resources,... or cold fresh air available, this is a great ,great bit of info.
Thanks for that really informative post Gazoo.
Can we still give props......cheers G.:high-five:

Awesome Just wanted to offer it up to anyone who may be able to use it ;)
I was surprised to read it could be used to our advantage :) that and keeping
my MH up until after she stiffens up her branches helped as well.

Now I need to run another SATIVA strain and see if it holds true :green_heart:

Great info exchange going on in here! My night temps are always within 20°f of my daytime. I don’t really have a way to control it, but I’d love to try this out. Man this Malawi I got is going to stretch out of control if it doesn’t start flowering soon.

"48 hours darkness. Another trick we?ve seen reported for Sativa and Sativa-dominant hybrids is to subject plants to 48 hours of complete dark to help transition before switching to the 12/12 light period for flowering. We haven?t tested this method for ourselves, but there?s not much to lose and we feel it might be worth a try for growers who really want to make sure there?s as little stretch as possible.

Too late for this Malawi, but that I can try with her clones. Thanks for the tip!

Cool let us know, that will be a great test since you will know what the mother did without the help

EDIT: Also a contributing factor could be the way I SWITCH to flower, I change the time only 1/2 hr
a day for 10 days (16/8 to 11/13) and interestingly both the 100% indica and the 85% Sativa started
throwing pistils within a day of each other

If anyone could test this theory it's you, so I will be watching for this next grow :reading420magazine:.

Good theory Gazoo but, i have 5 CCDs and three stretched alot and two didnt. All in the same space. Might be a pheno expression.

Thanks I agree :high-five:

Many variables to be accounted for, I try to Identify and understand as many as I can find ;).
Hoping if I can get enough of them lined up in the direction I want it can only help :)

Long time time Gazoo, hope all is well and to all the gang. I was reading something like this a few weeks ago. I believe there was something that said if you were able to keep the night temps up near the day temps during this same three week time frame that we could also reduce the stretch as well. Or something to the effect that the Warner night temps would help slow the stretch. I can say they did not have as much detail tho

How goes the jungle Duggs?
Good morning/night Amy....ya a jungle is right. Getting very close to chop now. Had a really long , close look last night and ..yup, they are coming down very soon. Resin has picked up and buds and colas have that knarly look to them with some calyxs completley covered and swollen.
Overall , very happy and appreciative of the chance Neiko gave me to grow these two Sativa strains out.
Been more work but its gonna be worth it so....
Enjoy the day/night Amy.
