DrZiggy's Low And Slow Drying: Maximizing Your Harvest

So let me get this straight——

first - cut and wash the bud.

second -hang the bud for approx 3-4 hours to let dry the excess wash water

third -put them in paper bag or some sort of container inside the fridge. leave open a small hole for air exchange the first day

fourth - close the bags the next day.

fifth- every 3 days or so open the bag and rotate buds around or shake

sixth- around 10 -13 days start checking buds of different sizes for RH % inside a jar
buds <=70– go back in bags
buds =65-69 ready for jars continue to burp for a few days until RH gets to 65

buds at >=64% RH ready to be jarred and stored with weekly burping to finish curing

so essentially i know this has been said, but to summarize.
we are simply drying in the fridge, nothing special. in doing so we preserve terpenes and thc that would have been lost if hung in a higher temperature in a tent or other place.
since the fridge slows down the drying process, but at the same time prevents mold due to the low temps, it is easier for us to “catch” the bud at the correct RH% for curing WHILE PRESERVING THE TERPS lost in normal 60-70F tent hang dry.

we are able to then more effectively use a boveda pack because we can pinpoint a RH close enough in proximity to that boveda packs target humidity range of effectiveness.

that a good summary for anyone like myself new to it?
i have been thinking about this non stop for the last few days, i feel better prepared now to finish the dry.

if anything was wrong please point it out.
im also going to experment just hanging a few bigger colas with the stem attached, going to experiment a bit with it

Nice summary Dink! :high-five:

holy crap been a long 2 days off. about finished got two bags left, this is my fridge currently.
hoping these colas dry like that lol

i put those plates of leaf directly under where the condenser sends out cold air, to dissapate as much direct air flow that could dry those big colas too quick.
humidity is high because of everything, been around 60-70%
when it starts to drop a bit i will make some space to break down the colas, im thinking once alot of water is removed from the buds in the bags that there will be enough extra space inside to stick these cola nugs inside

everything is in the fridge, rh is at 70% and temp is 40-43 F

the rh will go down tomorrow when the buds start to dry more i am hoping.
got every bit of my flower in the fridge, this is either going to be awesome or really hurt lmaoooooo

:snowboating::lot-o-toke::laugh:
You’re making the right choice, it really is as easy and simple as it sounds.

You and I do a couple things differently, but you’ll end up in the same place. :high-five:

hey i got pizza boxes today.
do i have to line them with wax paper or parchment? i have both so just wondering if there is pros and cons to each or if one is reccomended for a certain reason

I’d think either would work, but my preference would be parchment. Non-stick without the wax.

ok thats what i was leaning towards. i went to the store and bought wax also just in case though.
i didnt know if there was more trichs lost to the plain paper rather than the wax for a particular reason or somethjng lol.
thank you!!
i cut a
few
of the colas.
i put the lower buds in a dominoes box lined with parchment. i cant fit the cola head in the dominoes box though, so i have a heavy grocery bag that i pit the bigger cola heads in.

tomorrow ill do the same for the rest, i have to get them down from hanging and into the bags soon as i can

Day 3-4 drying in fridge.

i took out a all bags yesterday and turned shook the buds.
today i checked just a couple bags. the buds are kinda “soft” like one of the earlier posts had talked about.
the fridgerator is at 52% now when i open the door, opposed to the 65-75% it was the last two days. i had seen it as high as 82% on the first two days . i mixed the leaf plates around as well. i can feel it getting dryer by touch.
i still have a couple pretty big colas in paper bags. should i be worried?

You got nothin to worry about dink, in a weeks time you’ll notice how they’re drying but losing very little integrity. The biggest nugs might go three weeks, just start checking the Rh in a jar at room temp at around the 2 week mark. Drying in the fridge makes dank weed blossom into what it should be.

bananas and a fridge...

thats my shopping list today!!
is it still a good shopping list?
are the bananas a trusted ally still?

i have been followinf @Hdinkleman and his quest for the best drying techniques as i am halfway through bloom to my first harvest..
found this thread a while back, saved for later, now up to page 11/12?? lol
and what hve i learned..
well

bananas and a fridge.
i am watching the last hour clock down on an auction for a nice little one dirt cheap, the bananas il pick up shortly haha

who would have thought it eh, banana buds :passitleft::cool:

I can't say for sure because I don't even know where bananas fit in but I don't use them and have not seen them mentioned in this thread as of late. Just read from here are going back a couple pages. I summed up what to do then Dink did a good job of summarizing. No need to read from page 11. Let us know if you have any questions and good luck!

They can become a bit mushy the first week. Just make sure you fluff them and keep the temps low (around 40f). Sounds like the rh is moving in the right direction so in a few days there mushyness will subside. This is the low&slow method. Your frig might just take a bit longer. You'll be rewarded in the end.

ah i read from the start up to page 11
bananas are mentioned a fair bit lol @SweetSue and @DrZiggy may chime up again in this?
other people mentioned tomatoes apples mangos etc fruits that ripen after harvest, the gas they emit is meant to boost flowering !!
well anyways, after an hour round trip, and an hour and a pack of wet wipes later...

we have us a new tool in the box!
The dry chamber is ready lol
now to wait for something to dry in it...

i think they meant to out the bananas and fruit in the flowering tent when the plant was still flowering i thought?

or are you saying i should pick up some bananas and put them in my fridge? im kinda confused about what you are saying?

Bananas give off ethylene gas as they ripen, ethylene is a growth hormone female plants need to flower successfully. We experimented to see if extra ethylene would benefit cannabis flowers. I didn't see a real difference though.
