DrDan's Advanced Nutrients Hydro Grow, Afghan-Gooey and Others

WOW! Nice looking grow there DrDan. Moving those Res's will make all those roots happy.
Thanks Green, I am sure the girls will show thier appreciation for all my hard work the other day.:smokin:

Love that setup. Would love to do that!!!

SG
Glad you like it Sanibel. I am fortunate that there are a few people involved with this endeavor. I still do all the farming, etc. but at least they help foot the bill.:grinjoint:

Dr Dan,

I notice on your large res you have an air hose.

Do put airstones in the Res's? :scratchinghead:

Yuppers Acer, I have a 4 banger air pump with two airstones in each res. I have read somewhere that using airstones in the resevoir can cause early and frequent changes in PH but I have yet to witness it for myself. I prefer providing as much O2 to the roots as possible, and with the temps here, the extra dissolved oxygen in the res. is much appreciated I am sure.
Thanks for stoppin in everyone, I am hoping to get some transplanting done this evening, but may have to wait until tomorrow. Don't worry, there will be lots of pics.:peace:

You are absolutely correct about the added O2 from the airstones, plant roots love it. Especially at those temps. :)

The PH problem that some people seem to experience when adding airstones usually comes from the stones not being soaked in PH'd balanced water before placing them in the res, or from them getting dirty or slimmy while in the res. The stone and O2 itself do not affect PH. IMHO

You think of everything Dr Dan!!!!!!

Airstones in the Res!! :goof:

You ROCK!! :rocker:

That is one thing I make sure I clean with each res. change. The Ebb and Gro system is not supposed to need an air stone in the res. due to it's design (some water is ejected back into the res. during fill cycle). I don't think the stream they refer to does much of anything to increase the O2 content. I figure better to be safe than sorry. As old as I am, I have been sorry WAY too many times.:surrender:

:thanks: Acer, I wish it were true. It is thanks to sites like 420Magazine and the people who share thier knowledge and experiences combined that have thought of everything. Now people like you and I just have to look in the right places and pick out the pearls of wisdom to help guide us to Nirvana.... Home grown medicine the God's would be jealous of!:yummy:

Wow, WHAT A JUNGLE!

I am really enjoying watching this grow.

AND I thought EVERYONE used airstones or air difussers in Hydro Reservoirs.

Thanks Roseman, I love watching the grass grow too. It is so therapeutic.:grinjoint:
I know there are a couple of products on the market that say not to use them in resevoirs with airstones. Purple Max comes to mind, I have a sample of Windstorm but haven't used it just because of this reason. I guess it would be no harm no foul if your res temp stayed in the 68-70 degree range and you had at least a pump to stir the contents, but I bet the plants would notice the difference.:morenutes:
Speaking of jungles...

Flowers starting already. The image is yellowed dut to the HPS.

By the way, I am open to any tips on how best to get more natural light on the ladies for photo ops. I am using a low tech digital camera that will not let me choose when to use flash and I don't want to drag a MH in just to take pics.:trance:

Now for some statistics... room temp high of 84 low of 72 with Rh 50%. Resevoir temp 73 degrees, ppm 1535 and ph 6.07 (got a new ph meter :blunt:). I notice the drain pump kept cycling every few seconds so I peeked in and noticed the water being pumped out was just rushing back in as soon as the pump stopped. I looked at the hoses going through the wall and didn't see any real reason other than length for this to happen. It took me a few moments of scratchin my head and sweating under the lights before I went around to the res. room. Sure enough, I had left the return hose a little long (better to be long than too short) and was under the surface of the res. water. I hate physics sometimes.. especially when I am stoned. So of course, it was siphoning back everytime the pump shut off. Thankfully that was an easy cure.:loopy:
I had to resort to chemical warfare yesterday (thats the reason for the news blackout) and a great many Amazon Warriors were sacrificed. I refuse to let spider mites get the upper hand, and with any fortune, I will have comitted complete genecide by the second attack planned for sometime in the near future. Until then, I ask you to please join me in a moment of silence in observance of those whose lives have been lost in the cause.... Thankyou.. thats enough!:cheer::peace:

I believe the airstones are very beneficial and they can only cause pH problems after many weeks of use when and if they get slimey. Then, all you have to do is wipe them off good.

Sure is an impressive grow!

Well it is harvest time here and as a result, I have little time to play on the computer. However, before we start in on it again today, I thought I would put up a little bud porn for ya. I should have some update pics of the girls later today as well. Until then...

Well, hope that turned your crank, I know it did mine! We finished five plants yesterday, 5 more to go today. Time to smoke some scissor hash and wake up for the day's activities. May even go flying R/C for a little, just to get my head out of the house and into the clouds. Oh, and I haven't seen any signs of interlopers in my garden as of yet. I am still cleaning up the remains of my Amazon Warriors left behind. Wait till ya see the girls!:peace:

Those are some great bud pics!!! :thumb:

I think that you might see those photos in a textbook someday!!! :hmmmm:

Thanks Acer, glad you enjoyed them.

Nice haul Drdan! :rollit:

Hey Bandit! It indeed is a nice haul, that was the first plant of the day.:yahoo:

Great looking buds man! Wet weight?

SG

Sorry Sanibel, I didn't weigh it wet but from the heft of the bags I carried, I estimate at least 3lbs of wet wt. and I have 3 plants to go. My back couldn't take much more yesterday so I only got 2 of the ATF done.

Looked like a contest winner to me!

:thanks: Roseman, I am hoping the current grow will produce some serious winners. I had some ph issues with this last crop that probably stole some weight. I am having much better results so far with that since now I have a newer and of course, more expensive ph meter.

:woohoo: Way to go DrDan!

Thanks Double-O-7, just goes to show, it is hard to kill a weed.:grinjoint:

Beautiful! Hats off to ya, good growin!

:thanks: and thanks for stoppin in Hydroe, stick around because this journal grow is just gettin started.

Damn Dr. Dan that's some good growing at its best right there. Was definately a pleasure following along.

Don't leave! That was just the harvest from my previous grow. This journal is my first and is chronicling a different bunch of ladies. As you will see from the pics, they are still hangin around while thier older counterparts are removed. The harvested crop is going to be replaced approx 3 weeks from now with the clones I just transplanted. These will be the clones I go back to my GH formula with for a head to head comparison of AN nutrients at the "Grand Master Grower" level (this current grow being the AN grow). So stick around for much more fun.. and here are a couple pics I snapped yesterday evening of the ladies.

Still stretching, and looking beautiful!

A side view of the ladies, notice the foreground shows the area I have taken plants for harvest. I am planning on leaving the ones on the right for a couple more days.

When I am finished with my current harvest, I will be happy to share the dried weight with ya. I am also using Advanced Nutrients System's "Quick Cure" drying rack for the first time. So I will share my experience with that as well. For now, I still have some trimming to do. :peace: all and thanyou all so much for the compliments.:thanks: Stay tuned for more!
