Dr Bob Comes Home With Fruit Punch & Lemonista Aid - So Please Don't Be Critical

Ooooo new toys! :yahoo:

Yep, I am almost giddy. A new light is being ordered as we speak as well. Like Christmas around here!

Dr Bob came up in alot of my recent 'get to know mj' searches, glad im able to join the party before theres 1k pages ;)
And a fellow alaskan? Cha Ching!! Probably have a million questions for a fellow statesman :reading420magazine::popcorn:

Welcome to my humble abode. Pull up a chair, take a long slow pull on this ExtremeQ elbow load and relax. Love to have a fellow Alaskan here on the thread. I guess I need to be on my best behavior now. Oh wait, this is my best behavior!

:welcome:
Bob

I love Alaska. Never been, but it's on my bucket list. Flights are hellishly expensive though.

Almost booked a 5 day adventure tour that included, walking with grizzlies, kayaking with killer whales, dog sledding and a trip to the north pole. It would have cost me $8000 though, and that was about 8 years ago.

ouch
Alaska is a beautiful place
I love to visit
just not live there
you understand you can see where I'm coming from

Yip, that price and 26 hour flight kind of put me off. LOL

it probably cost you more to fly here

Definitely. IIRC, the flights were more than half the cost.

If you guys ever make it up here it would be fun! Getting here is insane and takes forever but you get used to it when you live here. They know me by first name at the airport. Hawaii is a long haul too. I think it is 6 hours non stop from Anchorage. Kayaking with whales is awesome, dog sledding is a blast, fishing is beyond good... Not too bad if you can handle the cold.

Well, you just gave me the nudge as I look at the sewing machine on the dining room table and those 5 pots half started.....I'm going to get to finishing those with my morning cuppa. I'm fresh out of pots to plant my vegging seedlings in.
Thanks for the pusheroo...

I love journals for the motivation factor they can provide. Looking at all your cool pics and goings on in your journal make me want to try harder. Now seeing our felt has you eyeing your machine. Perfect! I wanted to see what my 10G pot was going to "look like" so I mocked one up after double checking the volume. Scotch tape and reused paper and voila, dang these things are going to be big! But sized just right for the tent and all.

We live on salmon up here and this coming year halibut and other salt fish will be our main target as we will have easy fishing by then. You are right about the dark though, it can be oppressive. That was one of the reasons we started growing things inside, it made the light much better. Happy lights can be a good thing! Gotta stay busy too, we keep lots of crafts and such. Oh, and winter is growing season so its got that going for it.

Gotta come your way soon. Hawaii is our next stop for sure.

The lack of sun also brings the aurora, which almost makes it all worthwhile.

The lack of sunshine and high suicide rates has something to do with Vit D I believe. At least, that is what I've read.

The cold I can handle. I've always preferred winter to summer. Then again, South African winter must be mild in comparison. I do commute on a bike though, so it can get pretty cold on the bike in winter. They say you can drop 1 deg celsius for every 10km/h in speed. So if it's 0 deg celsius, it will feel like -10 at a 100km/h.

Anyway, I'm rambling. LOL!

Cant speak of other alaskans, but the cold is nothing to worry or bitch about. Very Very comparable to most northern states( NY and north, PA, Wis, Mich, Minn..
Parents in Minnesota had an almost colder winter last year.

Just the darkness.. But like bob said, its grow season. So yay!! :yahoo:

Yeah, I think the Arctic circle has acquired some big azzed powered fans that are blowing that frigid cold air back here to Michigan.

I would seriously enjoy seeing that aurora on a regular basis. Soooooo serene and beautiful, makes ya feel like everything is going to be awrighty.

I have never made anything larger than about 7 gallon fabric pots, Dr Bob. Post a pic up when you're done for sure.
My Eco Felt actually said "Eco" on the label. I thought I saw an eco friendly blip on the label of yours. Is it recycled from something?
Just curious on the different types.

The cold where I live now isn't too insane, we lived farther north at one point though were it would stay -50F for weeks. Now that was oppressive cold.

The lights are awesome. Had some this past week that were pretty amazing.

Looks like we have enough felt for some big 10G pots and some 4G pots. The felt we have is supposedly recycled and green but with no real details. Just a cool tree logo.

We have been busy bees over here at the Doc's place! Felt has been cut and sewn and turned into pots, another tent has been erected, new LED unit is on the way somewhere in Japan now, and the yum yum mix is to arrive tomorrow. I feel like Mr Burns, "Excellent"!

Pictures tell a thousand somethings right? So here is everything in one almost.
VegTent2.JPG

The tent is a 2x4 Lighthouse and is a really poor tent to be honest. This one had pinholes from the get go and stitching that didn't hold up. It seemed tougher at first and went downhill quick. So, now that I have become reacquainted with it, it will stay the veg tent. My other tent is shorter, but has better vents and no real light failures to speak of.

Sadly we have a bit of a problem with both of the Fruit Punches. The are rather stunted and seem to have really hated the dry conditions. Kinda extreme here now at about 25%. I had the seedlings out in the house vs the tent which is more humid by far. But kinda hard to deny that it is related in some way to the genetics. 4 seedlings all in the same soil, same pop date.
4Girls_11-13.JPG

I am hoping that tomorrow when I transplant them and get them into a moister environment things may improve for them. I am in no hurry so we will see.

And finally, we made our first felt pots. These are about 3.5G and will be used for the 4 girls to get them going in Pee Jays Veg mix. We made webbing handles for them. I learned how to sew with a machine. Got decent on the last stitch of the last handle.

:thanks: to Cannafan for her fantastic thread on making the felt pots. I need to get over there and post up pics of the ones we made. It gave us the proper push to give it a try. It really is pretty darn easy once you get the hang of it. For $11 of felt, some nylon thread, and scraps of webbing we have 4 pots with enough to make 3 more at about 8.5G.

Hopefully there will be an update of soil mixing in the morrow!

So the correct answer to my strain Vs RH question is "dont go with fruit punch!". Thanks for that Dr.!
LOVE!
With alittle bit of lovins they could still reward you, with something right?

Going to have to splurge and purchase some felt, really like the way my 1 pot increases RH.

Stay warm:passitleft:

Nice work on those felt pots bud. Is Cannafan a lady?? Will have to make sure my manners are up to scratch when I reply to her posts. LOL

2 of those plants are looking great. Unfortunately, those other 2 seem to be really sensitive. It happens. Might be tough to get them dialed in. Good luck bro!

Yep. Ironic eh? I was going to PM you back after that discovery. I have never had quite such a bad reaction. So, for now I wouldn't recommend it but lets see what happens after transplant.

Cannafan is a lady and class act in every way. Gotta be one of the most helpful and friendly people on here.

Those two fruit punches are not too happy for sure. I need to treat them with some better manners and see if we can get them to grow up into beautiful ladys. We will see.

:Namaste:
