Dos-Si-Dos & Wedding Cake ala Dope Seeds

I've had some in the fridge 5 years or more with no noticeable degradation in sprouting rates.
I never tried it. I just keep them in my smoke box till ready to plant . Some I had and grew were about year.. but they say ,,6 months then they go down in crap . Don't really believe it but safe to say tho. Don't want someone to say u told me. . lmao. U know how that is.

Funny thing happened to me today putting babies in half gallon Pot and found another baby that apperantly grew upside down. . she all yellow and sht. So got extra one. Now. Thought seed didn't make it but apperantly I was wrong. Must be a woman plant. I'm always wrong

If you don't keep them in the fridge with its relatively consistent and low temperature and low humidity, but rather just keep them around at room temperature, the fluctuations in both temp and humidity will degrade the germinating rates much more quickly.

For seeds you're going to plant within the year it may not make all that much difference. But for best results for longer term storage the fridge is definitely your friend.

Seed storage is often improved by storing in a light proof jar and sticking it in the back of the fridge, which is what I do with the extra seeds I get until I'm ready to plant them.

Some folks even say to store them in the freezer, just being careful not to knock them around because they're easier to break when frozen.

So, to answer your question, a bit of cold on the way to you shouldn't have much impact. Just want to be careful not to cycle too many times between warm and cold as that can affect viability.
I think if sub-zero or cold temps "fried" cannabis seeds, there would probably be no "wild" hemp/cannabis in the world.

Good to know. How long u set them out before germanting

Idk it survived the ice age. Lmao. Sht been around forever. . just man only figured it out since God knows when. They been using it for medicine. Used wild lettuce back in Roman days for pain relief and hell everything else too. Idk. We had pararlized boy which is on alot natural meds and we swear by it's . I take collida gold everyday and I haven't been sick but one virus stomach one. For like 6-8 hrs that was it. Thought had food poison

Some plant seed (non-cannabis) need a certain amount of cold temp before they are available for germination. Overheated seeds - by forest fire - are also a seed germination avenue for some conifers tree species and grasses.

When I want to plant some seeds, I take the jar out of the fridge and remove however many seeds of a particular strain I want to grow and immediately re-cover and put the jar back in the fridge. Way out back behind the jars of other stuff that's way past its expiration date and have been ignored for months (often times longer :laughtwo:).

I want the storage group to spend as little time out of the fridge as possible.

Then I take the selected seeds and put them in a glass of rain water and a bit of worm castings. The microbes in the castings help ward off various diseases like damping off disease and help get the new plant off to a good start. I then stick the glass in a warm, dark cabinet usually overnight or two.

I'll leave them in there until they split open and reveal a bit of leg and then immediately plant them. But max time in the water is 48 hours. Any seed that hasn't popped by then gets the wet paper towel treatment.

And I don't push them down into the water. They'll get plenty of moisture just floating on the surface where they also have ample access to oxygen. The whole "only the viable seeds will sink to the bottom" thing is an old wive's tale. In fact, because of the whole oxygen thing I prefer that my seeds do NOT sink. If they do, I usually pour out some of the water so they're closer to the surface and air.

If you think about it, in nature seeds don't germinate at the bottom of a puddle but rather in a moist, but aerated, environment of soil.

So, the overnight soak ensures the seed gets ample moisture to kick off the germinating process, but you could plant them in your dampened medium as soon as you take them out of the fridge if you want to skip the soaking stage.

Right. That's called stratification, but that also involves moisture, not just a certain amount of chill hours. Take Japanese Maple Tree seeds for instance. To germinate them you take fresh seeds and put them in a damp (not wet) medium like sand or leaf mold, and stick them in a baggie but not sealed tight. Put them in the fridge for a few months and when you take them out (simulating spring), the seeds will begin to sprout.

But they need both the cold and the moist conditions to jump start the process. Lots of northern plants need, or at least are helped by, this process. If you just put the dry jm seeds in the fridge by themselves for a few months it won't work.

You know your. Right about that never thought of that. But yeah I can see that. Plus ashes help the sht out of plants too I have bunch ashes I sometimes add into dirt just little sprinkle when I see nitrogen deffecientcy.

Did you dig her out and set her straight or what? Lol.

I can't wait to try her Bode! Cabin fever a little here, and I'll miss having her around to look at to break up the day. Oh well, new starts soon.
