DocBud's Next Medical Grow

Hey Doc! I'm a little late to the party, but I am subscribed.

I have to say, I do very much appreciate your attention to grammar, spelling, and punctuation. For me, these factors make a grow journal much more enjoyable to read.

As a side note, your tips on germination have made me feel confident that my feminized seeds will not go to waste. Keep up the good work. Your scientific approach to growing will help bring legitimacy to our collective hobby.

MORE PICS PLEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAASE!!!! Sorry it's friday, and i'm buzzed!

OK. I'll take some more in the next few weeks.

Thanks for the kind words!

I haven't posted here in a while, Doc, but I've been following closely. Your PPP's are huge and looking great!

I'm doing quite a bit more trimming and pruning now than I used to. It's just too much work to manicure a bunch of popcorn buds, and a moderate amount of lollypopping makes for nicer main colas, and also does a lot to prevent pests and mold, as it increases air circulation down below, and makes it harder for pests to hide in the lower foliage, as the bastards are wont to do.

You know, I hate the little bastards as much as we all do, but I do have to admire their survival tactics. Have you ever noticed how they like to get right next to the rib of the leaf, so you can't get at them easily with your fingernail?

But, I'm a bit high and I digress ;).

hey, I nailed the cure on some Sunset Kush I grew in both soil and coco with the same nutes.

There is a distinct difference, with the soil-grown buds having fuller and deeper flavor and aroma.

Now, the coco-grown buds smell and taste really good also, and I can see where some peeps might even prefer the somewhat milder, yet still dank and delicious, coco-grown buds.

I'm not so sure it's so much an issue of one being "better" than the other, after sampling both of these. I think it may be more of a subjective preference for a stronger versus a milder smoke.

The potency is the same, so I see it akin to quality wines that can be of different body and depth.

I don't think it's necessarily about what seasoned smokers prefer versus newbies either, because that's just too limited a perspective when comparing buds of equal *quality*, but somewhat different characteristics.

I prefer the soil buds, because I love the flavor of Sunset Kush, and soil gives me more of it, but the coco buds are really tasty also.

I used Botanicare's CNS-17 nutes, and supplemented with Maxicrop seaweed and molasses.

BTW, I got some Maxicrop soluble powdered seaweed, and there is absolutely no comparison to the bottled stuff.

The soluble powder mixed up into something that smells like the ocean, while the bottled stuff has a short shelf life and doesn't smell that good even when you first crack it.

The soluble powder kicks ass. If you foliar with it, your room will smell like seaweed for a few minutes, but it's not an obnoxious smell, just smells like fresh seaweed. The bottled stuff doesn't smell like that, and my plants really respond to the powdered stuff.

Thanks for sharing about the seawater thing. I was really curious and going to ask you how that was going.

take care bro, and congrats on rockin' another one ;)

Spider Mites are a worthy adversary, but I don't so much admire them as respect them for the resilient bastards they are.....F'n bastards!

As far as rockin' the grow....so far so good, but the most important parts are yet to come!

Stay tuned.

I had white flies in mind, as they attacked me on multiple fronts recently, but I caught them fairly early and tried a couple of non-chemical measures that worked really well.

First measure was ummmm, dropping the temp, lol, which slowed them down pronto, and the second was a tip I read on some website about using a "dust buster" style hand vacuum to suck up the adults.

The vacuum idea appealed to me on several levels ;), so went to x-mart and picked one up. First off, they're great for quick cleanups in the grow room, and I don't know how I've lived without one, but it was indeed very effective at sucking up the little bastards, and the satisfaction I got from tossing them in the freezer was a bonus :).

I did have to break out the Dr. Doom to finish them off completely, but it only took a very light dusting of it under the leaves to destroy any residual eggs to win the war, versus the multiple and heavier applications it's taken on previous occasions.

Hey Doc, I used the SNS on a couple of suspect clones, and haven't had an issue from it. No mites to be seen, and the plants took the spray well too. I'm happy with it, although I wasn't 100% sure they had mites in the first place.
It's nice to hear it worked for you.

dumb question:

Are white flies white?
I've got some itty-bitty blackish flies flying around the undergrowth. No Pest Strips haven't killed 'em.

It seems that Dr. Doom took 'em out for a few days.

Fungus gnats? White Flies?

What do you think?

Sounds like Fungus Gnats. You have to retreat every 3-5 days for awhile. Drench the soil super super good. Let it sit in it . The larva are feeding on the roots. I forgot your in hempy.... Plug up the hempy hole and totally soak the perlite. You have to retreat whether you see them or not. :goodluck:
No pest strips do not work for them.

Fungus Gnats, Just when you think you have gotten rid of them, they hatch again and repopulate. I was on the phone with a buddy and he is up north trimming and he said that it is obvious when they get final product that has had the gnats, a bunch of dead little bugs stuck to the sticky. He says it takes so much more time to trim when you got bugs. when you are manicuring quality.

I personally like them when they pop a fizzile from the lighter. (Joke)

Doc, I had those little bastards in my grow room. What I did was introduce landscape fabric at the bottom of my pots to prevent those bastards from going into the bottom of my pots through the drain holes. What I also try to do is keep a 1-2" layer of (just perlite) at the very top of my pots so that the soil is not exposed. These little bastards like to feed on compost.

Tmac is a broette ;)

Thanks SS! Never heard it put quite like that! :tokin: I like it

And Gnats can get in a hempy if given a chance. They dont need soil they need moisture and roots. Probably more common with soil. Hemprocket is right put a screen over the hole. Or panty hose on the pot. They will crawl in and out of that hole.

Some people put a layer of play sand on the surface. It will keep the larvae from reaching the surface and reproducing. Eventually they die. I personally use gnatrol and it kicks their butts. You still have to do it for a week or two every three or 4 days.

Update: Week 4, nearly week 5 of Bloom

Everything is going just fine....got a bit of yellowing at the top of one of the Querkles....could be too much light, could be iron/sulpher/zinc....I'm not sure.

So, I went ahead and supplemented that plant with some FE/S/Zn and we'll see what happens.

I did a root drench with Azatrol for the fungus gnats. I don't think they're going to be much of a problem.

I'm also brewing up some guano/compost/worm tea for the next feeding.

The PPP are further along than the others, but the 3D has the most stoney smell, but the Querkle has a delicious, fruity smell. The PPP have a nice piney, minty aroma.

The PPP are going to put out 4+ oz per plant, no problem. This is an amazingly high yielding strain....frosts up nicely too.

thats awesome doc, ive often heard alot of talk about a gram per watt and or people claiming 1000g plants, whats your take on this?

1 plant, 1 1000w hps and like 3/4 months veg time? i mean with unlimited space, light and time, let there be bud i guess.

I suppose it could be done.
A guy I know swears he grew an 11 ounce indoor freak plant once, but not under one light.

But a 32 oz plant? I dunno......
