DocBud's Hempy Grow

I just checked the tricomes:

Mostly clear, partly cloudy on the tops of the Blue Dream, nothing Amber. I did not check FLO....gotta do that later, she's hard to reach.

Here's FLO, main Cola just over 12 inches and getting fatter, secondary cola's about 8 inches....still green, leaves twisted all over the place, growing fine.

Top of Blue Dream: it's not really this red, camera settings make it look this way, but it's definitely further along than the other strains.....soon....patience Doc.....patience......

I've been loosely ans silently observing just for this right HERE^. Ur the only other member on here that I've found with this strain.I'm not sure if u are familiar with DJ Short's claim of multiple harvests, but I was wondering did u plan on goin that route with her this grow? Looking good. The trichs on the blue dream look nice too. +rep on a progressively well documented journal/grow.

Hey BWC! Thanks for stopping by.

This FLO is a clone from my outdoor buddy. He grew this plants mom to 12 feet and did have multiple harvests.

I don't think I'll multiharvest this one.....I'm leaning towards not doing that, as this grow is my warmup/practice grow. I've never done this before....;)

I can get many FLO clones and/or seeds any time I want....but to be honest, this plant has been really weird to grow. It seems like it can go a week without water, the leaves are curled up, but stay green.....and the damn thing is fattening up really well, which is good...but it just looks bizarre. It is supposed to grow outdoors.

Flo

I've seen other purple strains in the grandaddy grape ape family [(I read in Ed Rosenthal's Big Book of Buds Vol 3 p52) of which grandaddy purple is a pheno] do this with the leaves. Not sure if its genetic or what. Not sure if the FLO u saw outdoors did so, but FLO can purple up (from my reading) which is why I compared it to other purple strains in relation to the way ur leaves are growing. Ed says she comes from a Purple Thai (mom) x Afghan Indica (father). Monitor closely. I was debating on goin outdoors with her next season. Thanks for the fast response. Anxiously awaiting a smoke report. What's the smoke like on the outdoor FLO?

When I saw the outdoor FLO it was about mid September, the stem was about as big around as the thick end of a baseball bat, there were very few leaves and the Cola was about 2 feet long, way up at the top of the plant. The stem had purple stripes. It was a very odd plant.

I haven't smoked any of it yet, but I understand it's a very happy, energetic sort of effect.

Tricome check:
Blue Dream is furthest along, with mostly clear a few cloudy and one oddball amber out of about 150.

Earliest Projected Harvest date:
BD---Nov 17
FLO---Nov 22
WW---Nov23
Jack Herer---Nov 22

They could go a week or two longer, according to the best info I could get on the NET regarding flowering time.

White Widow main cola. I just can't help these fan leaves yellowing a bit. Most of the bush is green, and there is new growth.

Lower branch on Jack Herer, there are several like this that have 5-7 inch colas

I can't help posting Jack's main cola again....damn nice for my first one.

Lastly, another shot of FLO with natural lighting

I'd be proud of those colas too!

They're probably going to double in size.

Nice job!

Thanks SS, you've been a huge help to me. I totally appreciate it.

The yellowing fan leaves are normal in the latter weeks of the flowering cycle. Nothing to really worry about if the larger fan leaves are gradually yellowing and dropping. Ur 2 weeks to harvest.

Yep. I'm good with that at this stage. Lot's of green still left. Those leaves are sugar factories, and the buds need 'em if they're going to grow.

I'm going to give one more heavy feeding (all but FLO) and then taper off the nutes a bit....maybe use about 3/4 to 1/2 strength going in to the flush.

I'm really hoping to get 2 ounces per plant, dried. That goal might be a little high....I don't know. We'll see.

Right now, I'm reading up and studying harvest, manicure, and curing practice. I'm sure I'll be asking questions as things progress.

Thanks to both of you for stopping by.

What happens as the plant goes into flower the nitrogen level is decreased in feeding. After what's been depleted or made unavailable (lockout, PH problems, nutrient toxicity) in the soil the plant goes to its older leaves and moves the mobile nutrients to the bud sites in order to try to keep the plant alive long enough to hopefully reproduce b4 its life cycle is complete according to my reading. I like ur intake filter. I was looking into getting one of those. How long does one last u? What do they cost? I was told around $100 USD. Sound right?

The HEPA filter? That's intake. The exhaust is a big charcoal CAN filter.

The charcoal should last years, the fan doesn't even run daily sometimes.
The HEPA is washable....should last for a long time.

My thinking behind purchasing those two items was the the air would be clean and dust free. Well, it's clean.....but I got mites anyways.......

I don't know how much they help or not....but I own 'em for the duration.

I was looking at one that looked like urs. How do u wash it? As for the mites, they can hitchike in on u, other plants, pets, etc. The filters are supposed to be good at filtering out airborne fungi (spores) and rogue pollen.

U wash that in a machine, sink, bucket, hose it off, what? Then do u put it in a dryer or let it drip dry? U use soap of just plain water? A scrub brush or hand wash?

You gently spray it with a surfactant....like what is used for K&N auto air filters.

Then, you gently clean it with low pressure water, like holding it under a sink, not with a sprayer or high pressure nozzle, etc.

Then, it drips dry.

If you hit it too hard, the fibers spread apart and lets big pieces get past the filter.

The ideal set up for one of these filters would be to pre-filter the air with a standard furnace filter. Change that out regularly and the HEPA filter should last a good, long time.

UPdate day 46 flower:

I am getting a little nervous about when to flush and chop. To me, the triches look almost all cloudy....but I'm still in week seven of flower. Only about 10% of the hairs are red doing a visual.

So....I fed 'em and watered. Things are slowly growing.

Blue Dream first smoke test.

OK, so I cut off a little bud from one of the bottom branches 2 days ago and put it in my dryer (bud). After drying for only 2 days, it weighed a tenth of a gram and didn't even fill the bowl.

I smoked it about ten minutes ago. It had a slight green taste and the second hit made me cough....but I've had harsher smoke from dispensaries, at 70 bucks an eighth.

I had two good hits......and I'm buzzed like I haven't been since the seventies. My head is buzzing, my thoughts are clear, hearing is really weird....definitely a psychedelic feeling....this stuff is strong!

And....that is the first time that I smoked something I grew. (grew ditch weed back in the day....didn't get me high.)

I say it's a moving, spiritual experience to smoke what you've grown, knowing everything about it, etc.

This is my first post here and the first journal I have read and I take my hat off to you!
