DocBud - New Room - Super Soil - Etc

Re: DocBud - New Room - Super Soil - Etc.

Hey Doc, glad you are up to speed.....find a local outdoor gardener to donate the dirt to, just add it to the veg garden raised beds each season. Or find a recycler who does compost.....

Re: DocBud - New Room - Super Soil - Etc.

Glad to see that you are still here (or back here, whichever the case may be). Thought you got banned and was going to ask that your journal be moved out of the ongoing forum when I realized that you were still here posting in it, lol.

I must say, "Nice looking plants all around."

Great idea, thanks.

They are remarkably thick.....fatter than a beer can by maybe 20-30%. And they're very firm, and sticky as hell. I wish I had a motherplant of this pheno.....gonna have to grow this again and try for it.

Yep.....posting in my journal....already thinking about the next grow. I should have quite a few more plants under the big lites in a few days.....it'll get more interesting.

Doc, have you thought about a flowering clone? Interesting read on the topic here

Re: DocBud - New Room - Super Soil - Etc.

why not instead of tossing the roots and dirt, simply reveg the harvested plants and flower again? another route is investing in a worm farm, they love excess dirt.

Re: DocBud - New Room - Super Soil - Etc.

well worms don't require much time or thought, jus food, it's also nice getting something useful from what would have otherwise been discarded.

reveging plants does require a lil extra time and space, but average 15-25% more yield per harvest each time, well worth the effort IMHO.

compost piles are actually the most work of the options, requiring regular turning to prevent anaerobic conditions.

just trying to help, hope all goes well which ever you choose. :)

She really looks amazing. It would be a shame to loose those genetics and roll the dice...did you consider leaving some popcorn and a few leaves on her and re-vegging?

Funny you should say that. I'm seriously looking into Tissue Culture, for this exact reason.

However, with regard to genetics......I'm pretty sold on seeds. Not that I reject good clones....I grow some clones on every cycle, but I really like seeds.

Sure, you get variations in pheno's.....but that's what makes it interesting! Instead of McDonald's, with quarter pounders tasting exactly the same everywhere in the world.....you get something new or seasoned differently every time you grow from seeds.

This strain is pretty stable, so I should be able to find this one again. All three plants smell great.....but each is different and unique. I like that.

Re: DocBud - New Room - Super Soil - Etc.

yeah, doc, i grow a few plants each year that are not very stable....just to see what they'll do. it's a break from the same old grow...time after time.

Hi Doc -

I agree with you Doc, seeds give you variety, and variety is the spice of life, no? I have grown several Magic Bud's by Paradise seeds (from seed) and I've liked them all, but they've all been a little bit different. Love that! I grow for my own needs, and I really like the variety.

Hahaha, NIce... kinda funny you using (red Cups) as well ..they are the best for sprouting... other than people who drink beer with them or use at parties. either way it all looks great!... do you poke holes into the sides of the red cups all the wat from the bottom up?...i use a pair of pruning Shears and just poke with the tip small holes all the way around the bottom and halfway the at the top for aeration for the Fox farm soil that i use......

I'm little more obsessive/compulsive than that.....I use a soldering iron and burn 3 holes in the bottom, three in the sides about 1/2 inch from the bottom.....

I may take some pics tonite....nothing really new...just fatter and frostier. Oh...and the Purple Paki/Haze are now in flower. Sent a boy and a girl to the greenhouse honeymoon suite. We're gonna have hundreds and hundreds of seeds of very rare genetics!!

Also gonna make seeds of the Columbian Gold and a cross of C99 with Columbian Gold.

Not gonna mess with the Willie Nelson.....just trying to grow it out. It's a long, difficult, irritating process! The damn plant take up a whole light all by itself......Bushmaster next time....

Re: DocBud - New Room - Super Soil - Etc.

Cindy 99 is always a good Genetic to utilize, i always enjoyed Tiny Bomb.... a great little plant and bud developer as well as Crosser. TGA subcool has a strain out called Space Bomb ....that has Cindy 99 in it as well as TINY bomb... leeks nice. i ordered some already (reg) form. i recall gfetting some mothers and one of them was a tiny bomb from a friend who used to live in cali and moved here out east and so he was moving back out west after being here for 2 yrs and gave me all his female specimens. one being tiny bomb, the other Deep Purple, L.A. Confidential, Bubba kush, and Blue Sat. the deep purple ended up being a male.... *shrugs* didnt exactly matter to me though. oh yeah, have you eva heard of "Albert Walker" ? ..... its strain aparently and that was another one or the supposed "rare" genetics he gave me b4 leaving.... it ended up being Fem but i just neva really messed/did anything with it.

Re: DocBud - New Room - Super Soil - Etc.

The soil disposal is something i have been thinking about as well. I have about 1/4 acre of lawn in the back yard. i think that everything from my outdoor containers and from the inside now is going on the lawn and get raked out evenly. God knows that the yard could use the help. Get some organics in there and start making some teas i can use with a liquid spreader for next year.

Re: DocBud - New Room - Super Soil - Etc.

Not much to say....the PurplePaki's (Barbara Kush) are now sorted out and under the big lights on 12/12.

They are slow growers....and as small as they are, they're really root bound in the 1.5 gallon pots they were started in.....transplant tomorrow or wednesday.

The Willie Nelson is just ridiculous......if it turns out as good as i think it will, I'll use BushMaster if I grow it indoors again. The one on the greenhouse is only slightly larger.....pistils and buds forming indoors, but lagging just a bit outdoors......

Oh....I cut off a foxtail from one of the Space Jill's....dried it overnight and sampled it. Awesome! Super kind effect, delicious taste.....and a nice white ash in the bowl.

I'll get some pics in the dark next time so things show up a bit better.

Re: DocBud - New Room - Super Soil - Etc.

i was pulled over for speeding last night at 1135 PM and then he had me do a sobriety test which i passed easily...he said i did theb est hes seen in years. then he had searched myself...then called the K-9 unit out to sniff my car the dog didnt alert to anything then he said " i reward Honesty so im gonna give you a warning....it would normally be a 160.00 dollar ticket but you can be on your way have a good night.." all that for speeding!?!?!?!?

Amyway, i used to use a Soldering gun to melt holes in the side of the red cups as well but instead just turning the ends or pointy ends of the fiskar pruning shars you can make like a drill effect and create good enough "holes" in the sides mostly i put about a half inch of big n chunky Perrlite in the bottom of the red cup then fox farm soil ... then drill holes in the very bottom all around then space it out a bit more from hole to hole as i go up kinda like a pyramid effect .... I always liked Cindy 99, any strain with that in it is good to me, as well as the L.A. Confidential. although 5 yrs agothat was hard to come by it used to be the "mystery " strain. no its fairly mainstream in the smoking/growing community.

Re: DocBud - New Room - Super Soil - Etc.

Looking awesome doc. I just got my big tent up and running. Still waiting for my new lights and i need a couple of drain trays still for water removal.

I have a couple of picts that i will drop here since i just get very little travel on my little journals. I have some white widow clones i took from a ww i have in my outside grow. They rooted out well, but now they are showing something odd on some fan leaves, and a Purple Kush clone/momma i took has an edge curling issue, was hoping to get some of your expertise in figuring it out.

First are a couple of the WW shots with the odd yellowing on fan leaves, then under those is the PK with the curling up issue on the leaf edges.

All four of the ww clones are exhibiting those same things.

The PK now, its a different thing. maybe its just phenotype stuff related to the generic soil mix.

Anyhow doc, if you have a couple of thoughts, i would love to solve the little problem.

background on the dirt, FFOF, fresh worm castings, 10% and #3 perlite 20% balance is FFOF. they are all in 3 or 5 gal containers and the dirt has supplements, glacial rock for trace elements, Espoma Garden Tone for sulphur and initial nutes, Mykos for some fungi, then i do two soaks, 1 a week with my tea. and one soak with cal-mag, liquinox, and no shock before the transplant. Then just a light no shock at transplant. The soaks are a tsp ea of those 3 supplements in 1 1/2 gals of water. Maybe i have things a little too rich??? doesn't appear that way from most of the picts, just a couple phenos not liking something maybe.

Thanks and can't wait to see the PPH get budding!
