Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Add the re-charge week 3 of bloom. Just put it on top and water it in.

RE your leaves:

has the plant been in HB soil from the start, or did you transplant into HB soil?
Tell about the cooking process, temps in cooking process, etc.
A picture is always helpful.

Have you followed directions for transplanting, foliar feeding, etc?

I cooked the soil in my spare bedroom for a month as directed. The temps stay around 70 in there give or take a couple degree swing during the day and night. The plants did not start in high brix, they started in straight pro-mix for a couple weeks in solo cups then got transplanted as directed. They have got 2 doses of transplant so far and one of energy and I give them a spray of brix once a week and usually one spray of stress once a week. The other plant that I started directly in the soil a couple weeks after these two is not having any problems so I think it was cooked ok. Like I said the plants looks good its just a couple of the leaves at the bottom that dont want to stay happy but they are also a little crowded in the tent at the moment too so it could be that. I will try and get you some pics tonight after work.

Forgot to add I had to ph the water for them up until they got transplanted. At first I figured it was because the majority of the roots were still in the pro-mix and not getting phd water anymore but at this point they should have enough roots in the kit soil.

Thanks

Uh oh, now you did it... The last sentence in the instructions...

"Don't pH the water people...."

Got a Rake?

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

how much recharge per plant?? about 1/4C is what i think i remember but is hard to dig through the 128 pages or the other 300 total of the other HB growers to find it exactly.

im a couple weeks from needing it my self
The kit is made for 6 plants. Split your recharge into 1/6 ths and top dress the top 2"/3" or so. What i did is top dressed it in then watered with the cat drench...worked like a charm :)

Correction: The kit is made for 60 gallons. That's 10 - 6 gallon pots, or 6 -10 gallon pots, etc.

I just weighed the full bag of amendment, laid it out on the counter in a long line, like for snorting, evened out the fine powders and big beads, and cut it into 10 pieces (I have 6 gallon pots). Then I weighed each and adjusted. So now I have 10 individual packs of amendment in baggies, all measured, ready to go.

2.)Six pots of about 7 gallons each, OR seven “smart pots” in the 5 gallon range. Do not use smaller than 5 gallons. You will not have the success you should have if you use smaller pots.

I already have 5 gal plastic buckets. Would it be OK to use these or is it worth the money to get 7 gal plastic instead? Planning for 4-6 plants under 600 in a 4x4 area.

It would depend on how long you wanna veg imo. In high brix its all about the roots and soil. The more roots the better. I use 7 gallon smart pots. You should ask Doc if youre not sure but im pretty sure he'd say the bigger the pot the better. Hope that helps :)

You'll need a mirror, pliers and a rake......

Well, you answered your own question. The plants that are having small issues were started in another soil, and the HB plants are fine.

Everything will be OK, from what you're saying.

Please don't pH the water. You'll fuck up your grow.

Hey Doc!! A little while back, you were asked just how you cure your smoke. All everyone seems to do is use mason jars. About 15 yrs. ago i read in H.T.'ms. another way, that i've been doing ever since. It's a little more forgiving than jars along with a few other advantages.Wanna know? eh? Do ya ?:) Do what we all do and cut buds off stalks when just dry enough to burn one...4 to 5 days hanging. Instead of jars...use plastic grocery bags .Put about 2 to 3 z's. in ,roll the bag about 50% closed...put same bag in a paper bag and roll closed to same,50%, open bags after 2 days ...have a good smell (air in bag exchanges) should smell like a bowl of ripening fruit.Close bag and do this every day for about a week, letting more time pass between each "smell".Sometimes i'l gently roll the buds ,just to even things up.After about 4 weeks the buds are perfect...that's when they go in the jars and right into the freezer.Bingo, bango ,it's a done deal eh.Have you tried this Doc? What ya think? Cheers!

That sounds like a great method. I don't claim any special wisdom when it comes to drying and curing...I mainly do it my way so I can take my time on the hanging buds if need be.

I have a friend who uses mylar bags and he absolutely swears by them. I'm going to give that a try very soon.

"week 3 of bloom"

Doc, sorry for the newbie/basic question. Please define "week 3 of bloom". Third week of 12/12 or 3rd week of seeing flowers form?

3rd week under 12/12. Probably doesn't matter too much. I transplant, prune and bloom all on the same day. Others like to put the plants in the big pots and give them a few days. Just make sure the Re-charge is done before the plants get really big and require more food.

I haven't phd the water that has gone into the highbrix soil only the water I was using in the straight pro-mix for the first couple weeks of their lives. Now that I look at the newest messed up leaves they don't even look like the first ones that were having problems right after transplant and I would bet it has more to do with bad air movement and them being crowded up against the side of the tent. The first ones had more yellowing. Anyway here are the pics.

If you have a good soil you shouldn't have to ph anything, the soil it's self is a buffer and will help. For perspective I tell people to look at how old the earth is compared to mankind, well long before us soil has been buffering rain water for plants and trees and there's no reason we need to intervene.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Pro-mix isn't soil and should be phd just like any other soilless medium from what I have been told on here. I tried a watering or two without doing it to see if they really needed it and trust me they did NOT like it not being phd at all. Not needing to ph anymore was the biggest reason for me wanting to go with docs kit, well next to the amazing results that is.

All i can say on the matter, is that Promix uses Dolomite and Calcium Lime for ph on almost all of there bales that ive seen. Im not trying to start any arguments or anything but everything ive seen says to not ph soil or soiless mixes, them adding D/C lime only furthers that point for me. Good luck with the HB!
