Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

If you ever cob up some your going to think the bottom fell out of it.

That is in the plan for the future ;) I just don't know if I can wait out the process :D

BTW Was just looking up
Traditional African medicine
and see some other uses
Cannabis sativa (intsango). The fresh leaves are made into a decoction that is taken three times a day to treat asthma, it is also used as steam. In other parts of South Africa it is used to cure bronchitis, headaches, labour pains and hypertension

I have to order some replenishments. I am def trying the wash! ;)

I recommend washing after harvest, You should see the crud on my small fans, I clean them after every run and by the
end they are noticeably dirty,

BTW Here is my recent Washed and 10 Day Jar Cured Blackberry, I dont trim real close.
And as you can see it does not wash away the good stuff :)

Hey quick question for ya Doc, what is the earliest I can use leaf wash on seedlings. Thinking about popping some seeds but need to keep up on IPM like no other at the moment

Any time......

Also hitting the veg girls with leaf wash tonight. I’ve seen you say you use a quart for about three plants. How big of plants would you say that is?

Also is can leaf wash be a weekly thing? I was gonna do it every 7 days for IPM

Yeah...I started using my salad spinner on my trim before throwing it in the freezer. They get dirty even in a tent. :)

Those would be 3 plants at the end of veg. Hose 'em down on full blast with the idea that you're going to physically dislodge all bugs and eggs from the plant....and you'll get most of 'em.

Then, blast the crap out of it 3 days later, then 5 days after that and THEN that plant will be clean and get a good fresh start.

I wash mine at the end of veg, and then twice in early bloom. Trouble free grows with no pest issues, although I do see signs of them every now and then, usually webbing in the crotch of a fan leaf once in a while, BUT NO DAMAGE.

People use insect frass to stimulate the plant's immune systems, and I believe that maintaining a small population of insects, whose exoskeletons lie dead in the soil also stimulates the plant's immune system....and coupled with High Brix we get to a point where we simply don't have pest issues.

That's where I"m at now. Sure there are mites. But you have to hunt for them, because they don't harm anything. No dangerous crap.....just the Leaf Wash and some patience. It will take 3 months to get it 100% under control, provided you don't keep bringing them in from somewhere.

Alright thanks for the detailed info! I’ll start blasting the crap out of them before lights out today. In flower I’ve been mulching with dead leaves and there is nice colonies of tiny little decomposer insects. So I’m sure I’m getting a little bit of that for the plants immune system I hope. I only do that in the final pots though not when in 1 gallons

LOL, and I just realized that the mites can't mutate to deal with the blasting. When I heard Doc say that they're still always around, it gave me a little flash of PTSD regarding my pet whiteflies. Keeping pests around is no bueno - the survivors are always the most immune.

But this way, they'll have to develop stronger feet - that'll take awhile!

Gray...you talk my lingo my friend...lmao..."stronger feet"......PTSD...
Ya eh Gray ,..those white flies you had took over your life....it's kind of funny now , how ,..whenever you posted gorgeous pics of your plants..their they were ...just laughing at you ...it was a sad , pitiful sight ..lmfao...sorry Gray ..it did get to be comicle. Anyhow , hope your enjoyin the day my friend...fellow canoe tripper...cliff jumper..NOT....... partner of an amazing woman...please say hello for me with a big smile and hug would ya...:thanks:

Will do! :)

I haven't seen a single whitefly yet - got a crew of Japanese beetles on their spring search for a home, helping out too. We usually get a few thousand when it thaws, crawling out of all the cracks - but this year Ima put 'em to work! :slide:

Got soil bots, got pest bots - we be jammin' in the Gray house!

:bongrip:

Hey Doc, just mixed my bulk kit(4-3.8 cu ft hp myco bales,2-20# bags of worm castings and the mineral mix) and have 2-45 & 1-65 gallon smart pots filled. Giving me 155 gallons.Theres an extra roughly 50 gallons of soil left over. The instructions say 168 gallons however I ended up with a little over 200 gallons. Just wondering if this is a regular thing?

Wow, BIG pots! Are you planting 1 plant in each of them or are you just cooking in the smart pots? Seems a little light on the EWC but I'm sure it'll be enough. If you start a journal, let us know.

:passitleft:

Did you cook the soil? It sounds like you just mixed it and filled pots. I typically put each bale in 2 35 gallon totes to cook. Theres some head room left in them. You can get away with 1 35 and 1 30 but there isnt as much room to wet the soil and get it mixed before the cook in the 30's. Also as Ween mentioned that is pretty light on the EWC. I use a 30 pound bag for each bale of promix. I would say you are about 40 pounds lighter than you would want to be.I typically get about 45 plus gallons of soil from each kit or each bale.

Popping in to post another random HB question. Thanks guys. I think I already know the answer but I have to ask.
Someone once told me that high brix might not suit me because it requires a fair amount of timing with particular drenches etc. I’m away from home a lot sometimes.
Right now with my bottled nutes, brought to me by Monsanto btw:goodjob:, thanks Monsanto, and running on weekly feedings; if I have to go away for a couple or three weeks I can rig up an auto watering system with reservoirs and pump and timer. Even if it’s water-only, I can at least keep things on life-support. Usually though I can make it home at least one day a week

Anything particular about the kit that would totally preclude going on a 2-3 week vacation while not completely destroying my plants?
I’m guessing there’s a way around everything.
In fact I’m starting to think this is a dumb question
but wtf. :passitleft:

:thumb:I would be unable to leave and have it on auto in my grow. I have multiple stages of growth and too many different plants and drenches. I think it would be challenging to set it up for HB but more power to you if you can:Namaste:

I Have multiple plants stages all the time as well, and usually up to a dozen or so different strains going. But when I know I’m going to go away I do pare down; and simplify things as much as possible and sometimes in the summer I can put some plants outside etc.

:hmmmm: It sure wouldn't be optimum to get nothing but water for three weeks ...

But ... 20 days? You'd be missing 2-3 drenches during that time ...

The plants would be fine, I think. You just wouldn't get the opportunity to use the tools, so they'd grow like plants in normal good soil. I did an entire run of small fast plants without any foliars. They were fine - in fact, one of them took NOTY. So ... yeah.

Not optimum, but you wouldn't be disappointed, considering. They'd be good plants. You could probably load the soil a little before you left and then see how much they can process when you get back.

Dunno - seems doable, but I doubt Doc will be enthusiastic about it. :D
