Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hey doc what are your thoughts on Korean Natural Farming KNF

I don't know enough about it to have an informed opinion. However, IF...and I repeat IF...it's a traditional farming method then you must take pains to reproduce the soil and photoperiods of the folks who developed this farming tradition.

I don't know if that's the case, but I do know that many times people who can grow things in the "old country" have trouble growing in the new country....especially if the lattitude and soils vary a good deal from the "old" country.

It's becoming popular for growing cannabis I keep seeing posts on IG like "When the KNF bud has you 8th grade high". Know what I mean? So I was thinking maybe they found a different way to get HB cannabis.

Hey Doc, think you missed this.

Also, you suggest 4-6 nodes before flipping, have you tested to see if this negatively impacts yield versus more nodes? It would make phototropism pretty easy for the plant, just wasn't sure if it impacted yield for those of us who are going for high yield.

Regarding Leaf Wash.....I spray the plants once or twice in veg, before putting them into bloom and then once or twice in bloom, before resin begins to form. get them out from under the lights and hose them down, top, bottom, stem, trunk, leaf, node....blast the crap out of them.

I do not recall ever saying "4-6 nodes before flipping." I wait till I have a good root system before I bloom....and that can mean 12+ nodes or more. I've never counted them before for that purpose. Where did you see that?

So for Leaf Wash we can spray them whenever?

On trimming them up it was in Shadowmoses' thread:

Since you asked and I was lurking about:

In mid-veg, top and prune for 3-6 main tops. In late veg, take all but the top 3-5 nodes on the main branches and cut them off.

Put the plants in bloom.

early bloom, clean up the lower branches and suckers.

Mid-bloom, clean up anything that grows inward and blocks light. You should be able to see dirt when you look down from the top.

If you fail to trim up during late veg, you'll have bushes in bloom!

Same plants, just under 3 weeks apart:

The second pic is after the pre-bloom/late veg pruning. Those plants were put into bloom 24 hours after the haircut. The first pic is the same exact plant, today.

I seem to recall seeing some stellar plants from you already?

I just messed up with the snake oil this time around.... I don't know why I got so spray hectic. Lesson learned once again.

My next girls will be in 10 gal plastic for bloom and will stay in 1 gals until then. That'll be the run where I bounce back!

The knf works great in Asia, I think some people on IG are taking bits and pieces and incorporating into their grows. It's a practice that uses a lot of fermented teas, stuff that's native to Asia. I have a PDF from some doc that wrote a book. It's free PDF.

This cherry vanilla cookies is packing on frost still, was going to harvest, may give another day or 4.

They could very easily have high brix produce of all types with the right volcanic soil.

I try to recreate those soils in places where it would not be possible or practical any other way.

I'm collecting data for a "purple" soil right now, and will have a new amendment (hopefully) that will maximize anthocyanin production.

In some research I have seen that allowing the soil to dry out is not good for the life. Is it being dried out here to allow for a recharge of a certain ratio or something? Just trying to understand.

Is it possible to do this in a 4x4 bed? You could no longer do the drenches at all.

Hi jm,

Regarding the soil drying out....its not a problem for several reasons, but the main one is that the plant/roots feed the boot and provide moisture as the soil dries.

Also, you may have purchased Myco before? Its a dry powder....very much alive, like acidophilus powder, yeast and lots of other microorganisms..

We dey them out because it builds roots, tight internodes and good calyx/leaf ratio.

Damn spell check. Biota, not boot.

I posted this about a year ago and I have been using them ever since with good success.
As a grow report, I give them the HH seal of approval. You see no circling just root tips.
The plants hardly skip a beat after transplant. I think they're called Hercules pots

and I have two of these home made ones that actually work quite well.

Not currently using the kit, but the plants did get a drink or two of some kit Tea.

sure didnt hurt.
Come on folks let's see some eye candy! Here's some for ya

I've never had a plant show any stress after transplant, always stay perky. I need to grab some of those pots hash hound in 7 and 10 gal sizes

Ditto. I'm always puzzled when people say their plants stall after a transplant. Mine do the opposite. A few days later, they're turning dark and spiking like crazy - like I turned a knob or sumpin.

Bayhydro707 has a nice selection of square nursery pots on the 'bay, from 5 through 12 inches. :slide:

I'm so glad someone else said that. In a new grower and only do one soil at a time (with my hydro) but have done several transplants and mine always seemed to like it. Didnt even remotely stunt them. I think it has a lot to do with timing. Maybe if you transplanted really early and the dirt was loose around the roots or something but I almost wait too long to transplant. I wait till they ask for it. And then wait another day lol

Also healthyharvestfl has 1 gal sq pots for like $2-3 a piece. They have up to 25 gal.

I guess people are too ruff with their plants when transplanting, idk. I'm not too gentle, I've dropped and done everything else to them lol. But usually they are very happy immediately after trans

The trouble comes if transplanting too early and the roots and soil are disturbed. Once a good ball-o-roots is formed, you can abuse them, drop them, hit someone with them, etc.

I've got video of this on IG.
