Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hmmm..you can't turn a granddaddy purple into a lemon paki. Its all about the cutting or seed. Sure, you can bring out the best in each cut, but to each cut its own.

I've said it many times:

The closer you can get to a Landrace or IBL the better the performance you'll get in High Brix soil. Nowadays, in the lab, SLOtown and I smell the jars and say to ourselves:

Do I want to eat a desert that tastes like this? Yes? Keeper. NO? Probably gonna toss it, or at least take it out of the rotation.

My products are smelling more like food and less like weed these days....but the food smells are only to be found in weedland. Hard to describe. Sometimes, with a visitor, I'll have them do a blind smell test and more often than not, they do not think they're smelling cannabis, but some fruit or essential oil.

So you stopped purchasing seeds? Just mastering your clones now? Right on hommes!

I get "good" at growing a strain AFTER 3 runs.

1st run: natural growth, no topping, normal pruning. By the book, first run soil.
2nd run: based on 1st run, try topping, or not. adjust soil energy based on first run performance.
3rd. run: Add 1 and 2 and take notes. By the end of this run I've got a pretty good game plan for the strain.

That is definitely the end result. The problem today is breeders bust out new strains all the time. It is alluring indeed to try all of these new genetics. My small space makes it hard to really dial in a certain strain. Limited space makes me want to try, try, try, and just have fun. When I get my larger space I hope this time of having fun will allow me a better grasp on what I want to really fine tune.

I respect you having a strain like your LP which has been kept out of the mass produced jazz. Come on, lets face it, we can all cultivate and get good growing certain plants, but all plants have a limit. A strain will not produce high THC or CBD if the genetics aren't there. I could practice on a plant for a long time but eventually the end game will be in sight. I'm still searching for my "Lemon Paki", but in the meantime I hope to sample yours in the future. Gotta make a trip to Cali, eh?

A trip to Cali will result in Lemon Paki 100% of the time for HIgh Brix guys. Every time. :thumb:

If you want something special, find a classic, a landrace, or a hybrid that totally grooves in the soil.....SLOTown just harvested some Blue Chocolope (Blue Dream x Chocolope) and it has the potential to be the next Lemon Paki. It's not Landrace, but it works.

Just play with it for a while, get temps and humidity right, figure out which run of soil works best, try spraying with wet soil vs. dry soil, etc.

Shoot, you could grow Blue Dream, discover it's got an entirely different flavor and nose.....and add brix to the name.

Winners:

Colombian Red
Choco Thai
Lemon Thai
Pakistani Kush's
Afghan Kush's
Gorilla Glue #4
Grape Ape
Skywalker OG (very, very touchy and difficult to do, but totally worth it.)

There are others as well, but these just excel in the soil and turn out product that is above top shelf.

If you ever get a chance...get some 501st OG. Its very very similar to the Skywalker but much easier to grow. I believe it's put out by purple City genetics if I'm correct.

Do you have a journal going? I have been interested in the Marionberry. I haven't looked for any grows of it as I have enough strains, but if it does really well in hi brix soil I may have to give it a go.

I don't have a journal going but I was lucky enough to get a female off the one marionberry kush seed I had. So far the plant looks amazing, seems to really like the soil. First time growing it so I'll definitely let ya know how it turns out man!

If you're looking for easily obtainable strains that do well in the kit soil, in my experience the following ones have out shined others I've grown:

Lemon Garlic OG
Moonshine Ghost Train
LSD
Sour Kosher
Durban Poison

You can add the following ACE strains that I've grown in kit soil with really good results

Panama
Golden Tiger
Zamaldelica
Purple Malawi
Purple Haze

Dinafems' Critical Cheese
Reefermans' Willie Nelson

the many strains ive grown in kit soil, I had better results with most than some of the strains, especially when following the instructions, but all were great herb in different ways.

people should follow the instructions with their favorite familiar strain and see for themselves.

Both my Carnival and OG Kush did well in the kit. I think the OGK could have used a bit more magnesium but I'll be prepared next time. But the taste of the OG Kush is out of this world in a clean bong. It taste like you are breathing The giant redwood forest with some fruit thrown in. The Carnival is other worldly strong. People turn it away after a few hits. Makes me grin from ear to ear. You guys warned me this would happen. I should have listened. Now I'm a pot snob like the rest of you. You can't go to other weed once you've had this. Thanks Doc

Canna Montana made this 'J'- 'J of the Year', IMO :circle-of-love: made with Lemon Paki and Tangie
Group Dinner :) (Thank you Duggan!!)

Everything looks beautiful today!! You all are just killing it!! As for me, I'm on day 29 of cook with DBHB. I will start germination tomorrow.
As of now I will Germinate 2 Ace seeds Panama and some old school 30 year old panama red seeds I got from an old timer. I have 5 so I will do them all. I have some free standard seeds as well but I'll wait on those. I just order Peyote purple and Congo from Ace and look forward to those arriving. Once I figure out how to post pics I'll show you my set up. I've been planing those for about 2 years now and I think I have all I need and a few things in the mail as well. Not sure if I'll do a journal as my time is very limited with work and music. But who knows, maybe one day!
