Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

As for the soil, i have 2 30g bins. Divided Promix and Worm castings between the 2 bins. Added 2.5 gallons of water to each with the amendments. Mixed and covered. Let cook for 5 weeks or so in a 68 degree environment.

The one in flower has been at 12/12 for the last 3 1/2 weeks and had her first Cat on Sunday. Before that she was alternating between transplant and growth/ energy.

The clone just came off the cloner and was put in soil with roots and had a "light" drenching with transplant. Of coarse all the drenches have tea. I have 5 other strains at different stages and it is just the TW that looks like this.

Thanks for your help. :peace:

Where did you keep those bins when the soil was cooking? On a concrete slab perhaps?

In the future, you'll get better results if you mix everything dry, THEN add water. The roots are not
"talking" to the soil and vice-versa.

I'm worried that when you mixed the amendment in water, you didn't get a thorough distribution of minerals.

Sorry. I worded that badly. The amendments were added to the soil and worm castings, then the water was added. It is on a concrete slab in my basement:peace:

my worst run was my first run where I "cooked" my soil in a 50 degree basement on a concrete floor...during winter. since then I've found some crannies in the flower room to jam it. even in there on an insulated wood floor I throw the bins on 2x4 risers (fwiw: bins or pots sitting directly on the floor, even if it is NOT concrete, still become part of the insulation, instead of being INSULATED)

in other news: holy shit a 20g pot is alot f'in bigger than a 15. Just ask my back....fuuuuuuuuuck....

This is my second run with the soil. I had no issues with the first run, and again, now, only the tw. I have c-99, Critical, Dream Machine, and Carnival and they are all doing fine. No issues. Just the TW. :peace:

Some strains clearly love the DBHB soil, some clearly don't, that's another thing.... I've had similar situations with picture perfect Master Kush next to a Sour Tangie with a hammered yellow and brown canopy in the same soil....it all turns out good in the end but yea.....I'm doing my last effort to run these wierd strains that you have to make huge adjustments for, before heading back to the drawing board to find some simpler more homogenous genetics.

fwiw:

Turned out perfect in teh soil:

Master Kush
Blue Dream
Island Sweet Skunk

Struggled:

Sour Diesel strains (the SSH cross and a Tangie cross)

YMMV

Concrete slab.....no bueno. The heatsink will stop microbial action in the soil.

I'm just gonna guess that the soil you used to pot up the TW was from the bottom of the barrel.......

Give it a rescue drench with warm water. Hold off on foliar sprays until it recovers a bit.

She usually gets drenches on Sunday. Should I wait till she is dry and do it then or do it today? :peace:

are you adding any Recharge or Amendment or Roots in addition to the leaves, and EWC?

actually Zig

I normally do only 4 7gls at a time so I had enough recharge left from 2 kits and used it for grows 2 and 3.

there is always about 1/3 of a batch sitting and I always add the trimmings and Roots to that soil.
then I add the just harvested used soil to the sitting soil.
Then for runs 4 5 and 6 i added minerals and Dr Earth powdered nutes to the bin.
fill 4 more bags and violla,
(run 4 1c min 1c DrE,,, 5th 1/2c min 3/4c DrE,,, 6th run I was out of min so I added 1/4c Azomite and 1/2c DrE) 7th got worm castings only

I figured the soil might be at the end of it's usefulness and figured why not experiment.
and like I stated earlier, the 6th run was my best brix grow to date, quality and quantity wise.
using the lighter recommended amount of drenches
And my highest brix readings of 15

These amherst sour diesels are requiring special attention but I got it dialed in with bloodmeal.

That's the stuff.

The bloodmeal made a remarkable difference in one day Doc...crazy! Now I can tell theyre wanting more epsom salts. Those diesel strains are definitely perfect candidates for the bloodmeal and epsom regimen. Looking back on some of my past grows I can tell which ones should have got the bloodmeal. Oh well, live and learn! Thanks Doc :)

hey guys, I just gave my blueberry gum it's first cat drench. The effects are noticeable overnight, it's amazing. I'm getting taco leaves now, though. That happened overnight also.

What should I do?

Depending on your pot size, you can add either 2 teaspoons or 1 tablespoon of epsom salts to the water after your next cat drench

Hash, did you stop the soil after the 6th run? When did you start using the lowest recommended drenches, 4 and later? I am intrigued about multiple runs of soil.

It's in a 15gal pot, 2nd run soil. It's the first water it's had since transplant into the 15gal. I switch to 12/12 as soon as I transplant.

Thanks doc!

back a few posts on the last page I mentioned the 7th run being ok but not as good 6th, but it was harvested early.
And I have the Black Cream and Northern Light in 7th run now, nothing added but worm castings.

I have been using the recommended doses since run #1, and even when the directions were changed to allow higher doses, I have stayed with the lower end.

Soils DONE Cooking!!!
Coincidentally just potted 6 sour tangies. Looks like I'll be needing some salts.
So Damn excited!!
