Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

ok doc hb cloning.. did you post a run thru on your method,? is it just some spraying of "stress" can i use dilute pgr for this? i was reading in eds book that he puts some phosphorus or bloom nutes in after a few days after cut, whatcha think?

Phosphorus is good for roots....not rooting! Phosphorus is a powerful "reproductive" nutrient....and it greatly helps roots...once there are roots.

So, I cut woody stems, strip off every leaf except the apical meristem and the little fan leaf just below it. Often times, I cut the tips off that little fan leaf.

After that, they soak in RO water for 5 to 30 minutes, depending on how many I'm pruining.

Then, I put a little dollop of Clonex cloning gell on a clean surface, scrape the "bark" (called cambium) lightly with a razor blade, liberally dip in clones and carefully shove them into Rapid Rooters, or Root Riot plugs.

Then, I put 16 oz of RO water into the base of the cloning tray, put the dome on and IGNORE IT FOR A WEEK. The plugs will push themselves up as roots grow. I usually trim these first roots back and let more grow before planting, but they grow fine without doing that too....just need a few more days in veg.

A light spraying of Stress is the "secret," that and taking HB clones in the first place. I don't know too many cloning trays that look like mine.....and mine weren't so great prior to HB.

I think all this is in pictoral form on the "In the Lab" Thread.

thanks doc, pretty much same thing i do, as for "stress" wont pgr acomplish the same thing? im just not sure how much to dilute it, im dubbed to the "lab" so i'll have a look, thanks again:thumb:

No, they're a bit different. PGR is added to Amaze, along with dextrose and fish.....which gets towards being Brix.

Stress is kelp based, with trace minerals, nitrogen fixing bacteria and dextrose. Quite different.

Champagne is starting to come down today. Here's the first one: extremely dense, especially for a 100% Sativa.

Also some pics of Colombian Gold and random stuff.

Speechless. That Champagne looked like something special at the start of flower. For a sativa, those buds are massive Doc! How many weeks did the Champagne end up going?

These are on week 14. Still packing it on, still clear/cloudy. I've grown this strain in Super Soil and it finished in 11 weeks. It's not showing any sign of finishing this time, as far as triches go, but it's resinous as can be, great smell, great bud structure, and the high is incredible.

Gonna be part of my regular crop now.

Lemon Paki, Champagne, Herijuana and searching for an Indica that fits in. I want to specialize in 4 strains, each of which thrives in high brix, ranging from 100% Sativa to 100% INdica.

Man Doc, I don't think you need to step anything up...That Champagne sets the standard, I strive to make plants that awesome.

Thanks Curso! Too bad you're not in CA....you could grow some.

Doc, would you message me please? I'd like to talk to you about a kit. I want to get a batch cooking for my next grow.

Btw, I've read everything you ever posted (even elsewhere on the web), and with pleasure - thanks for making the effort! :thumb:

Not much trimming on those. Most are all bud, no leaves. That's really interesting the Champagne took 11 weeks to finish in super soil, and you let it go 14 in the HB soil.

Can you throw out a guess as to why this happens? If a plant is still stacking on weight, why not let it go a few more weeks. I am loving that Champagne.

I don't know why some plants can take longer, except that they get better, not just slower. The buds on this Champagne are dense and firm, like you'd see on a kush or blue dream. That's unusual as well, as wispy buds are the norm.

Resin is pretty silly....they're wet, like honey.

Triches 20 cloudy......this is some high flying weed.

Yield seems a bit over the top for two of the plants....I have to wait for them to dry, and they could shed a lot of weight, but basing my estimates on how a smaller branch dried out 2 weeks ago, I'm going to say 7 oz on one plant and 6 on the other. They are the largest buds I've grown to date. I think I'm gonna hit 'em hard next time with Cationic drench in week 3.

Doc - I think I remember you saying that mosquito dunks work great. Are they ok to use in high brix soil? And use on a water day? Trying to figure how to keep any bugs to a minimum. Been spraying spinosad and natria insecticidal soap with some success, but I think the buggers are in the soil!

I don't recommend putting them in the soil. I put one in a reservoir I was using to water the plants and it did it's job. I don't need them anymore with all the new things.

Ok. Ya didn't want to put them in soil. I was thinking I'd water a few times with a bucket with a dunk soaking for a bit. Good to know a few times is ok and that they work. Thanks doc.

re the fungus gnats;

I used the dunks and also sticky traps to deal with the buggers.

I make a small wire frame and attach the yellow sticky traps and place them right over the pots and loads of the gnats meet their doom there.

Then the following grow was with Doc's kit and I saw zero gnats. There were a few left overs flying around when I started Doc's kit, but after a week I didn't see any.
