Hi doc, really impressive stuff! This is my first time posting, but I have been studying your high brix journal's since 2012 and I am 100 percent sold on high brix growing. Could you please pm about your high brix kit. I am really excited and thank You so much for all the hard work!

Smokey, I've already got new 7gl fabric bags which have worked very good in the past and are also easier to handle.
They are loaded with my own version of mineralized aged/used supersoil.

Yes, with no doubt use a root trimming pot, the old concept of pails & buckets dont do the job of root trimming plastic pots or Geopots which are a plastic type fabric, they rule !
With a bucket or pail the root system hits the walls and they spiral into a circular knot, with a proper container roots hit the wall and they get cut off , the truth is when the harvest is done, the root structure is healthy and strong, plus there is the additional air that will be available, the plant will consume more water which is not a bad thing.

Have good 1, Bulldog

Mornin BD...and yes ,what i found with regular pots .After an organic grow about two or three yrs. ago i had a bad case of root aphids and what happens in regular pots is ....when the aphid eats thru a root fibre ,the rest of that fibre down stream dies! It doesn't take long before the plant is just struggling to survive. After a close examination of those roots i found this out,the hard way! I then went to "rootbuilder" pots, where this just can't happen with the air pruning that goes on. As well...after checking out these roots with rootbuilders (air pots .fabrics) the root system is very different....it's just a mass of very fine fibres throughout every inch of the pot. They work fantastic .Over watering is almost impossible with the amount of o2 that is in the root zone. When my crops are done and i unwrap the pots from the root mass....you could bowl with it....that's how full and complete the root system is...it's kind of cool to see. Not one grain of soil is loose ,the complete mass of soil has a very fine root system throughout. Love em!

Air pots and root pots are wonderful things. But my plants look so-so in regular old plastic pots and my root mass is superb. Having said that, fabric pots bottom watered is a pretty solid combo. I'm not using them, but they definitely work.

Want to seal vacuum your mason jars, get that oxygen out of the jar, check this out ........
FoodSaver Wide-Mouth Jar Sealer T03-0023-01P | Walmart.ca

Get this puppy for $10.00 get a bicycle tire pump, open up the pump shaft handle, reverse the rubber seal, remove the check valve, and now you have a vacuum, not a compresser , so like for less than $20.00 you can seal up Nicely

Air-pots work, punto :) I started using them few years back and never went back to normal pots, except starting the plants. The thing about air-pots is that they stimulate the root zone via aeration which improves microbial population, and raise the temperature in the root zone, which is responsible for better NPK absorption. Then there are more small feeders in the rootball. Also, over watering is pretty impossible, cause liquid evaporates quite quickly, and that allows you to water more often, which is beneficial once again. Air-pots are also great for LST, cause you can tie up your branches easily to the pot :)

Doc, sparkly already! :) what are those strains like, please? Effects, smells..
I love this school!!

Sorry I skipped this Ziggy, missed it.

Champagne is some Thai strain. I named it champagne because the flavor is delicate and sweet. It's a very upbeat, energetic sativa. Not quite to the level of Willie Nelson (my favorite smoke bar none) but Champagne isn't nearly as hairy and ugly, thus it actually has bag appeal. Willie Nelson smells great but looks like.....well.....it's as ugly as Willie himself.

Lemon Paki is a landrace Pakistani strain. Until Grape Ape came along, I'd say it is my flagship strain, but the Grape Ape might be taking some of that excitement. LP is flavorful. Every crop turns out slightly different on flavor, but this is the type of weed where if you crack the jar open the whole room smells really fast. The effect is balanced, compared to Champagne, but still more on the Sativa side of things.

Harlequin is another experimental strain. It's a high CBD, low THC strain and I'm growing it for a certain person.

Thebulldog.. Vacuum sealing the ball jars is awesome! Its like a time machine.. Cured buds months(havent got to the years yet :) and the smoke is amazingly preserved, better, like wine, ..and that wasnt the HB grown, just jarred some a couple of weeks ago :) and more this week.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

This conversation strikes a note of interest for me right now as I'm finding myself questioning some of my initial impressions of certain strains as the growing method/style has such a large impact on it's characteristics that's it effectively akin to completely different strains in the end. I must say Lemon Paki sounds MAH-velous...

I've mentioned it before, and I'll say it again, I don't think vacuum sealing buds is good for them. Boveda 62 and a mason jar somewhere cool and dark, dry it closer to 56-58RH for long term storage. My experience with concentrates leads me to understand how delicate my favorite terpenes are and how pressure (and heat) can effect them.

This couldn't be more true. I tried the dispensaries plushberry and it was so unimpressive I almost threw my seeds out and got something different. Needless to say I couldn't be more happy with how they turned out, that taste amazing and are very potent, nothing the what I bought from the dispenssary. And I am a newb that was on my first hb grow so there is still lots of room for improvement :thumb:

When you think of cannabis strains, think of heirloom tomatos. The really delicious ones you get from gardens and high end restaurants are almost always heirlooms, grown organically, etc. The "Early Girl" and "Beefsteak" hybrids are designed to travel well and contain a lot of water. It's hard to get them high brix, they are used to growing in a sterile field with 20-20-20 broadcast and a yearly trace element application.

They grow well, but not great in High Brix soil. Same with the massively hybridized cannabis strains that really do well in hydro. They were designed to be potent, pungent, and heavy yielders in a high salt environment.

The strains that do really well in High Brix soil are on another level when compared to the salt lovers. Different type of smell, strong, gentle.

Look for strains that do well in High Brix and grow the hell out of them.

THIS ^!!! Is there a list, of sorts, of strains that have proven to thrive exceptionally well in High Brix? I've seen some general references (to landrace sativa strains) and seen some grows that look(ed) insane, but I would very much trust any input from the High Brix clan around here to make a short-list of some of them. Not just some of those rare, hard-to-get types, but even more common ones that have simply shown good promise.

:hmmm:

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I grew heirloom tomatoes in HB soil, (yes, following the instructions )this summer. .they were started in mineralized soil by a local farmer. He sells the plants in mid Spring, and the tomatoes through summer. Almost 30 varieties of heirlooms! I grew 4 of them. I needed more of the tomatoes I was growing for a summer bash, so I bought from him the very tomatoes the same varieties I had purchased earlier in the season. His were great; mine? Awesome! Friends couldnt believe the plants in 7, 10 and 15 (1)gal pots, grew over 8, 9 ft tall! They were amazing :) Colors, smells, size, flavor, texture, all enhanced. Told friends about HB. Piqued a few interests' to look into it.
...The plants also had the HB Glow(tm pending...)
The other herbs i grew in HB soil; thyme, oregano, cilantro, chives, parsley, bee balm, rosemary, purple basil, lemon basil, mint, peppermint, were the best I had to date. Amazing what M,M,&M can do to plants.

I wonder Doc, how do mushrooms/ truffles fare in HB soil?

Great to hear! I have no idea how mushrooms would do.
