Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Doc this doc[/URL] is def over my head. i think that these findings may explain a bit about the lesser and greater success of strains with the kit.

the reading at the bottom of the page 5 will get your attention.

It's a great article! What was the part you thought would get my attention?

I do fully agree, this article bears out the observations we've had using the kit......which tells me we're on the right path.

I thought that this bit about thc concentration would be interesting to all of us. However I'm not sure I am connecting the dots.

Cannabinoid concentration and composition was significantly correlated to structure of endorhiza communities

Each plant in the second experiment was tested for a variety of cannabinoids, including delta-9-tetrahydrocannibinol. Cannabinoid data associated with the plants was used in Mantel tests to understand the potential biochemical associations with community composition or structure; with significant differences between strains (unweighted; r-stat: 0.863, p-value = 0.001). However, due to higher THC composition and concentration in plants from one of the soil types, THC variables were also significantly correlated to the soil edaphic variables, and as such any association between microbiota and THC is very hard to disassociate from soil physicochemical variables.

Basically this is saying:

Each strain produces its own cannabinoid profile that varies from one strain to the other. However, the composition of the soil also SIGNIFICANTLY impacts cannabinoid concentration.

Essentially, this is scientifically bearing out what we are observing anecdotally: The weed feels different if grown the way we grow it grow it, compared to other methods. The article is saying that soil composition, especially the type and structure of endorhiza in the soil, has a significant impact on potency and type of high.

This type of article is a little glimpse into post-prohibition growing....where science confirms/disproves various theories and stimulates new angles of research and new methods of growing. The quality of produce is going to go UP exponentially when we start to concentrate on quality, not stealth, quantity, etc.

Hey Doc, sorry if you have mentioned it before, I have not noticed it. I am wondering what the kind of products you have for controlling the environment in your grow room? Thanks

Hey Doc...i have something to say relating to your discussion on how different soil types have such an impact on thc and the whole cannabinoid profile thing. It's clear first of all...that when higher brix levels are achieved, resin quantity and quality is noticebly improved.
The plants i have at present ,using Doc Bud's kit are doing things they shouldn't do.The way i grew them (two) the plant should have been able to "take" the weight! They didn't...one day after i took some pics...they were collapsing all over themselves...not because of any def. or lack of anything (leaves still all green and shiney) but because of the they're excellent health at such a late stage of it's cycle.I have witnissed resin glands that don't want to degrade. They keep growing ! Big old fan leaves that look beautifull after nearly 8 weeks of flowering. Unfortunately, there are strings and pipe cleaners everywhere...holding them together for another 2 weeks(yikes) or so!Cheers Doc!:yahoo:

That's a good question. My set up is as good as clever/homebuilt can achieve with simple components. Using professional grade materials and having some skill in construction a person could do better, but it costs more and takes more work. I'm still very small scale and will likely remain that way.

It's not the nicest grow room, but it does achieve a proper environment 360 days out of the year.

I built two framed, insulated structures 12x12x9 (a large room divided in the center with an insulated wall. One chamber is cooled with an Ideal Air Minisplit and the other chamber with a 12000 BTU window mount AC.

In addition to that I have an 8" high CFM (not sure of exact rating but pretty strong) up in one corner that blows through a large Charcoal cannister. In the opposite corner, floor level, I have a slightly smaller fan that sucks fresh air in and comes through a HEPA filter.

CO2, occilating fans on every wall, including one in a corner that blows straight up the wall.

DeHumidifier and a humidifier.

Everything is controlled by a Sentinel CHH4 except the DeHumidifier which is controlled by an AIR 3 controller.

The Sentinel is what makes it all happen, keeping things pretty darn nice in there most of the time. My AC is showing signs of wearing out, so I'll probably be putting a new one in very soon.

Veg room is pretty much what I just stated above just in another room.

When it comes to the OG's and family, if they don't fall over you're not doing it right!

I do find that the strains that really rock in the soil don't need much in the way of staking up, especially compared to an OG. Your plants are looking great, BTW. Congrats!

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Ya those sentinel CHHC4 controllers seem like they make things pretty simple. I think I'm pretty set on getting one. Would you recommend supplementing with c02 for a 4.5x4.5x6.5 tent? Sorry these questions are off topic. Thanks

Hey OG'er....these are all very good questions and I don't mind answering them at all.

I wouldn't supplement in a tent. You want smaller plants in there usually.

And more is coming in the editorial section over the next 5 days. This will have an effect.
All you great experimenters and plant cultivators will be glad you were pioneers. Legitimate cultivation is coming, and intelligent practices will be appreciated.
I'm taking the year off - very grateful to Doc for supporting us in the interval!

Liked the links.

It CAN'T be too long now till weed is federally legalized. What concerns me is that, like liquor, we might be banned from producing our own.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

The U.S. and Canadian governments will NEVER let the common person grow their own weed! It will never happen...think about it...why would they? They stand to make billions with they're hand in everyone's pocket collecting taxes from it ,just like booze and cigs!If it is legalized in the near future, it will be regulated just like those! it's ok to buy it and use it...just don't produce it yourself!!! Hogwash!!Just thinking about governments makes me want to puke!!That's all folks.:blunt:

Spoken like a person from flyover country, eh?

I think it's time we stop writing down rules. We have too many written rules already. Are the people writing them stupid or what? It's tough being an old guy and watching "authorities" be stupid. It doesn't matter how well-intentioned a rule is if it can't be enforced.

*mutter*
