Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I think you should try it.....who knows? But I suspect you'd just have a lower yield.

We need both the growth and bloom versions of nitrogen for proper bud formation, plant strength, etc. But I highly recommend trying it!
When you say both versions of N, you're talking about GI and Cat right?

No Morgs, Doc is refering to the two types of N in the Drenches.(Ammonium NH4 is in the CD and Nitrate, NO3 is in the Transplant.) The Transplant and CD have these two different types. Both are required to get our prized HB buds. Cheers eh.
Would like to add, that the major difference between the two Drenches is the type of N in them , otherwise the two are very much the same.

To go a step further, the ammonium, if given too liberally, WILL cause a cation imbalance, which then will inhibit calcium uptake and load up the leaves with too much nitrate, which then cooks the leaves from the inside if not enough K is present to detoxify. I just learned this very hard lesson in my hydro experiments. I presume this is why DB only uses the NH4 form of N as a drench twice back to back which can then be construed as once.

Thanks Doc. When I get back at it I may give it a try. To be clear though, not sure if you read it this way, I am only talking about substituting the straight water or 1/4 trans drench with the 1/4 cat drench so still doing the regular GE and Trans drenches.

I'll be back at it pretty soon, can't wait! I'll need to order some more stuff.

Thank you for the info. What kind of Nitrogen is in GI? My understanding, was that GI had loads on Nitrogen in it.

It's calcium nitrate. :bongrip:

Hello all,

I am having problem and it is getting worse. This an OG in 3rd run soil. I gave her a brix/snake oil about 5 days ago. Was about to give 2nd dose in a few days. 5mil brix 1 mil snake oil to 6oz distilled water.
She has had both cat drenches and straight water then a ge drench. All are mixed 5mil tea to 3/4oz drench in 5 gallons water.

Here is a picture, any ideas? Is this just OG in high Brix soil.

Yup, damn salt lovin OG's . They can be a real issue. The buds are still growing and producing resin most proper like. Ok,..Ok...go ahead and give that lil bitch a rescue Drench next time she needs a drink...NOT before she needs it though ok. Also give that second SO w/Brix ok.
That should get u some results and if not , will buy her some time to help finish properly.
These straight OG's are a problem. Doc has pointed that out several times over the years and has worked on the problem but for some reason , every now and then someone has issues with them. Don't fret, it will work out.:high-five:

If you know ahead of time that a strain is gonna benefit from a little added epsom salt, at what point in the grow cycle would you add it?

Maybe just top dress it in at the beginning of 'Bloom'. The larger the pot , the better , especially for OG types.
U can't add to much , too often though. It will put the Cal /Mg. ratio outta wack and really start to mess things up.
Good question ..better to avoid the problem ahead of time instead of 'chasing' it , which can prove to be useless.
I remember seeing Doc top dress it in , i believe he was doing an OG type at the time, not 100% sure.
Cheers :high-five: Magoo.

Are you certain the Mg is deficient in the soil and not a momentary cation imbalance from maybe too much CD across 2 feedings? I've experienced similar circumstances in hydro when testing various ratios of NH4+ relative to the Ca, Mg, and K. My guess would be to experiment thinning the dose of CD rather than adding more Mg.
