Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hi fellow brixers :)

A question about frequency of drenches. I have a white widow that is about 5 days into flower. Its outside in a 13.5gal pot.

The other day I gave a full Growth Ionic drench and watered till run off, leaving what was in the tray to soak up. About 36 hours later it was fully dry and it continues to dry out really fast. Obviously its drinking fast - but the heat is helping as well.

How often can I give alternating drenches? Is it too much to give Drench - Water(w 1/4 trans) - Drench etc. every 36 hours?

Also @Duggan - you said DOc is away for a while. Do you know when he is back? I have a question or 2 about the raised bed drenching schedule he sent me :hmmmm:.

Is there anyone else here who has experience growing in an amended raised bed outdoors? (I’m not having problems, just have some questions).

:Namaste:
From the looks of that WW, I'd say you're having no problems, at all! :welldone:

I do NOT have amended soil outdoors but, if it were me, I'd just keep to the schedule of alternating drenches with the TP & Tea in between. If it takes 10 days for the pots to dry, do the next step every 10 days. If it's two days for them to dry, I'd do it every two days. I'm sure you can do less drenches and save product, but I don't believe there will be any harm in more, assuming you're on the schedule. :goodluck:

Thanks Krip! :) She’s a looker:D I didn’t say I was having problems... :hmmmm: ... I’m not having problems

I was only wanting to know if there is a “too often” for drenches in pots - seems maybe not, so that’s good - thanks!

It was a seperate question to the one about the amended soil raised bed. I should ask one thing at a time maybe ;)

The amended soil is in a rasied bed - and the sheet Doc sent me, i noticed yesterday, actually gives me a drench amount - per month. I realise that only drenching once a month isn’t right, so am wondering if I divide the quantities he gave me to drench more often. Anyway, that one is a question for Doc probably as it relates to the instructions that came with my custom ammendment - or someone else who has grown in a rasied amended bed.

Hi Amy , Krip and gang,...Amy, i haven't seen Doc's feed schedule u speak of but if your plants in the raised bed are drinking every 36 hrs. or so, that is a very good thing. remember ...There is nothing wrong with giving more 'just water' drinks OK! As Krip said , you won't harm anything but your raised beds outside will do great with alternating the two main Drenches...Trans and GI with each other as per schedule but just give one or two more ,straight water drinks between those Drenches, instead of just one or two,..give three, or four. I would however , give some Tea with every drink, regardless of what it is. Your soil has been amended with a rich mineral base and there is loads of good things happening.
About Doc,....he is busy with important matters right now. Cheers .

Yeah that’s what I’m doing in the raised beds (and FYI it’s the pot that’s drying out every 24-36hrs - not the raised bed). I’m putting a little tea in all the plain water drinks (1/4 trans or not).

SO maybe I can post a pic of the rasied bed drenching schedule Doc sent me and talk it through wth you, seeing as he is not available. (Pls ignore the written pencil - its me working out rough quantities)

As you can see it says to nutrient drench only monthly, alternating btw GI and TP. I cant see how to drench only monthly - so I’m wondering, am I supposed to break down the amounts further and give the smaller amounts more regularly? Or is it really only monthly :hmmmm:

And please - this is just about the frequency of drenches in the rasied bed - i’m ok with working out the quantity etc. (don’t want to get us into yet another convo about drench strengths ;))
:Namaste:

It has kind of been answered already but just wanted to mention that I sometimes have plants inside that drink every two days and when I do I just do drench, water drench. Even if that means they end up getting 2 drenches a week instead of one. That is one beautiful outside girl you have there! What is even more amazing is the fact that you are in such a "small" container outside! Doc has mentioned that he recommends 25 gallon pots minimum outside, so to have her look that good in half that amount of soil is really a testament to your skills!

I could be wrong but I would think it would be more beneficial to break them down to do regularly like you have it written out as. It would make more sense to me to regularly feed the soil and the biota instead of having them feast once a month and then kinda starve until the next month comes along, but that is just my thinking!

Yes Amy...Doc means per month not per one big Drench OK. So as Yeti has advised , break that up. Amy,..the amounts are NOT critical..the main thing is to thouraly soak the soil whenever required with whatever Drench is due. How easy is that . Doc just wants you to not give too much more per month of those Drenches. How do you and what do u use outside to water...what kind of container, and what capacity?

hi i just bought doc buds fertilizer, and i had a question i feel stupid asking. but i have a 50 day old critical mass plant that from what i can tell of the leaves on the bottom is lacking in nitrogen. however this is my first grow so im not certain this is what it is. but anyways on my next watering im going to use doc buds transplant drench. i believe starting on week one on the calander that is provided is the right week to start on even tho my plant is 50 days old. it says to use 0.5 ml to 1ml per gallon of soil. i have a 7 gallon pot my plant is in. so i would use 3.5 ml to 7 ml for it. but what im wondering is, is there any certain amount of water this should be mixed into. sorry i just want to make sure im going to do this right before i try it. this is a pic of one of the leaves and what i believe is nitrogen deficency.

:thumb: yep - I’ve calculated the amounts pretty loosely :) (You get quantities for 1000sq ft - and I have about 12-15 sq ft (1.44m square))

We’ll see how i manage to finish it ...

Thanks Yeti - yes that’s what made sense to me too - little bits more often. It rally works out to almost nothing in the arsed bed - that amount you sa that I had calculated it down to (the 15ml of drench) - that’s the per month amount. I’m going to go throught the loose number crunching in my thread later today - so folks can check over my shoulder that I have the ball park fairly right. I know I can get anyway wth using way less of everything in the raised bed - it will take me a little time to work out the feel for it. I have massively over drenched it the last 3 weeks! Doesn’t matter at all obviously :ganjamon:

Evenin Fuzzy....from now on forget about calculating Drench amounts per soil amount OK. Just use this simple formula EVERY time you give a Drench ok...mix 15mls. per every gal. of water used. So if you are using one of those plastic gardening watering cans that are two gals.....just give 30 mls of any and all Drenches in that can . Remember to only use either RO , Distilled , rain water , or water that has been tested and meets our needs. Untested tap water is not suitable .
cheers.

thank you very much for the info that makes things much easier. i have tested my tap water and it has 250 ppm is this still ok? or only ro, distilled, rain? we have lot's of snow i could melt down if the tap water is not suitable.

ah i get it. we have well water, so there is no chlorine added to it. heh sorry for being such a noob. i try to read up on as much of this stuff as i can. and i would like to thank you very much for being patient with me, and being so helpful. :)
Oh ..no worriez Fuzzy...u got questions...u ask OK. There is always someone hangin around here to respond and help u out K. We have an awesome group so....:passitleft:

:thanks: Duggs

I would look at it as roughly 4ml of drench a week.

i used doc buds transplant drench today. tommorow it says i should use the foliar spray. the water needs to be p.h.'d to 6.5 for this right? hope you get well soon doc bud!!

You don't need to worry about PH with Doc's kit. Also, you typically don't need to PH foliar sprays, even if not using the kit. It's the roots that can only uptake in a specific PH range.
